Zeitgeist Movement ?

I have just finished Zeitgeist Addendum, having watched Zeitgeist yesterday.

I have always been a hater of what money is about, have always caused a silence among people when, after one of them speaking about getting "that car somehow", I said "there you go how you end up as a slave. wedding, this car, this house, this summerhouse, kids' college. you're 50 and it's over. you've made it".

I have always seen the need for a job as the ultimate obstacle in doing what one could do best -enjoying his current state of existence and conscious they call as "lifetime". However as the traditional life dictates (could be speaking on local terms here), you need to go to university no matter what, you'd better get an education that'll grant you a job fur sure, you should get the job as soon as possible, you should marry, get that car, that house, that summerhouse, pay for kids' college. Oh even thinking about it gives me headaches whereas most people around me have a zen-level acceptance into this crafting and embossment of you as a useless bit into the system around you.

As much as I like the idea how it essentially approaches at why the world is turning into more of a hellhole every other day, I don't want to be carried away due to the favoring of the ideas it speaks of -one pitfall we usually tend to slip in.

Has anybody watched those two documentaries ? Would you be able to confirm what it presents as the current structure of the economy (at least how it is in the USA) ?

The discussion could be expanded on other aspects of the documentary as well.

Yeah, i liked that part in Fight Club too. The things you own, end up owning you. And that's true to a point, if you let yourself get blinded by a consumerist lifestyle, but it's not so as long as you keep perspective.

Oh, I don't know about that. Technically I really don't have to go to university, i'd just need to accept the consequences that come with that choice.

Without any sort of true education (beyond High school/ GED) I would be reduced to working with my hands and would likely be doing manual labor the rest of my life. In fact, it's something I highly considered but ultimately rejected since I want to do something else, but I do know people who have taken that path.

I'm no more trapped in the system than I allow myself to be to further my education. I want to be a Network Architect: To become that, I have to go to school. In all technicalities, I don't. I have to take the test, but the classes offered are some of the best ways to get that education along with the knowledge to pass a lot of other certifications. :shrug:

I watched the first at the request of a friend, and my own conclusions were much the same as EMFM's link. It raised some interesting points, but I found many of its claims a little too much for me subscribe to.

edit: As for the car thing. I'm living proof you can survive without it. Public transportation since I was 18 and haven't looked back. I am utterly terrified of driving, not so much of using cars, but of being in the driver seat. I might learn one day but for now it is not high on my lists.

One of the problems of labeling people as zeitgests is that it is easy to confuse people who spend their money wisely with people who are into stuff.

I would consider buying a vehicle that enables me to effectively do my job (i work in a car a lot), transport my family etc etc to be a worthy investment if it has a solid track record. At the same time, if my and my families hobby was boating, I would consider a boat purchase a wise investment. The same thing can be said for a smart home purchase, antiques and collectibles like gold and rare firearms, some form of cosmetic surgery that will save me time, money and health in the future (like LASIX or LIPOSUCTION)

The kicker here is that someone can do all of the above and still wear sandals purchased at a second hand store and pants purchased at Target. The furniture can be used, the kids cards can be used, the dogs and the wife can be used, whatever. It's people like this who are refreshing to meet, as opposed to the stuffies, who need stuff stuff and more stuff, always the best stuff always the newest stuff, because stuff=prestige=power=happiness I don't know. Why any non-retarded human in the city would want to own a humvee I do not know, why anyone would pay one-hundred dollars for a pair of jeans I know not either.

That Zeitgeist film is precisely not the sort of film anyone who is fooled by the concepts expounded in Zeitgeist should watch.

The Sheep as it were will just end up fooled by the film maker but then maybe that was the point.

The film is pretty much lies even the explantion on religon is bogey and the economic bit is laughable yes evil bankers which is a code word for jew of course are trying to take over the world well not anytime soon by the looks of this Credity Crunchy thingy.:clown:
