gamestop is selling the complete edition for $20. it looks amazing, and i feel like a fool for spending that $20 on Sins and not this game.
it looks a lot like company of heroes, but with nukes. :smash:
anyone else have their reviews of it theyd like to share?

Try Men at War. It's CoH without the lego feel.

WiC loses its novelty fast. With only a few maps and not to much in the department of strategy going on with most games its one of those hit it and quit it types. Atleast it was for me.
Edit: When I say strategy its mostly Teams who play all the time beatin on a bunch of pugs.

It was fun for a few hours, but IMO it has no staying power as a game. Sins is a much better purchase.
That being said, its a bit of fun, but rarely do you get to pull a nuke off in a decent match. Let alone a triple nuke. Its haaard.
If you do go ahead, PM me and I might install it and have a game with you. (I bought at release)

Lego? Why? Really, why? I always thought CoH was quite realistic, save for the slightly more masculine than average somatypes the soldier models had.

Personally I found the environments to be a bit too fragile, kinda like trying to hide behind a lego building, with bricks flying off at every moment, which added to the urgency a bit too much. Men of War allows for bursts of action with some welcome moments in between when you can have a look at your surroundings and make a plan of action instead of having to rush ahead because the structure you're hiding behind is about to collapse...
I mean a blown up tank is a fairly solid defense against bullets...
Plus, you get Direct Control mode, where you can control an individual soldier with pinpoint accuracy.
Men of War I'd played at a friend's place and it's haaard! I couldn't get past the first level even.
Out of CoH and WiC, CoH is longer, but I found WiC a lot more interesting.....for one it seemed to move faster, gameplay-wise, and playing online was fun.....though I didn't play it for long.

I played the WiC MP demo and wasn't moved. It's part of the recent trend to shrink RTS' and the amount of units you command, while giving you special powers to use. Some are ridiculous- I remember that you have to specifically order Heli's to shoot rockets.

I was a little bit cool to CoH (it was alright, not wonderful in my opinion), but I loved WiC. I still play it, and the multiplayer is still fun. The storyline is a one time playthrough, that much is true, but the MP is what the game is about - and it works well.

No, they fire guns and missiles on the ordinary attack command (which do work on tanks). If you want the heavies to fire Hellfire missiles, on the other hand, you do have to order them to (since it is a special ability and Hellfires are very powerful).
WiC had a great single-player campaign, a very good cold war thriller that was worth the price of admission. I hear the soviet pack really does the original justice and is just as good (if not better!). Where WiC really fell apart for me was in MP. It's got a steep teamwork curve. If you're gonna play WiC, bring friends.
While encouraging teamwork is a great thing for any RTS to do, WiC nearly goes to far in absolutely punishing you for taking the initiative without any support. Unless every single person on a team is working together, your air players are gonna get shredded, your Arty players bombed and your infantry players run over. Being anywhere good at WiC online requires voice communication due to the intensive combined arms tactics you're forced to employ.
I think I played 10 WiC games and never got close to launching a nuke in an online match, though I did see it happen once. I will admit, though, seeing that nuke go off was a very awe inspiring moment. I think half the people playing just stopped and gazed at the eye candy of watching a small riverside town go up in a mushroom.

I only remember two MP maps, an island and the town by the beach, with big towers and so forth.
On the latter, I've been the recipiant of a triple nuke. Not fun.

The game itself is fine, but it's very difficult to find a good team to play on. And, due to what is now a small player base, it is often difficult to find a team in the first place.

Ive learned if you are the only Heavy art on your team and your friend is AA you can own anything. I've done a triple nuke before and have seen 12 nukes in a single match.

:O How long did this match go on?!

On Space Needle it is entirely possible. If you have six versus six, and four triples on each team, you can get twenty-four nukes. I've seen eighteen in one match I think.

It was that one map where its like a giant mountain range and you have to push either side back. It was a stale mate for 15 minutes. First nuke came in and there was a new one every 40 or so seconds.

I bought WiC and its Soviet Assualt expansion in the Steam Christmas sale. I also picked up CoH tales of valour though. I've played through some fo the tutorial which I'ma fraid bored me a little so i went away and played Coh and then got distracted by otehr things -haven't started the campaign yet.
If anyone on the Org is still playing WiC, I'd be up for a multiplayer some time, with big n00b warnings mind. :)

World in conflict is a very dull, boring game which requires very little thinking, just clicking.

Hooray for necroposting!
My friends and I wanted to get a LAN setup going on with an RTS. Since we are seniors, we have lots of time on our hands, and we decided on WiC as the game we would play. I just ordered a new copy of WiC complete for $9 (including shipping) off of Amazon, will post with a review when I get it.
It always looked like an interesting game, but its pace seemed to be far too frenetic for my tastes/abilities. I've always been a slowpoke when it comes to RTS titles, and I haven't exactly improved with age in that regard. ~

RTS is branching out, titles like WiC and DoW/CoH are moving it away from the old Build base, kill enemy type of thing.
But then Starcraft 2 comes out and makes everyone realise why RTS is known for that.

WiC is definitely worth the look, but I can't recommend it for the multiplayer. Not because MP is bad, simply because when i tried MP six months ago the community was practically dead. It was very hard to find games, expecially in comparison to a little after release when you couldn't find a game with an open slot! :laugh4:
If you check it out, i'd do so for SP first and foremost. The campaign is incredible as far as Red Dawn spin-off scenarios go.

Well, the Modern Warfare mod community is still strong. After I beat the campaign Im going straight to that mod. Plus I have friends who play.

Yeah, but the pub community is dead basically.
The SP was interesting though. I wouldn't pay extra for the expansion though.
