So what do you get up to, any cool celebrations or is it similar to a secular new year i.e chicks, booze, fireworks ect..

well yes. its a 2-day holiday, starts tonight, ends sunday night.
prayer services (about a half-hour) tonight, big meal tonight, more services (about 2 hours) in both mornings, followed by more big meals, and joy all around. but the day after the holiday is a fast day, im guessing its there to dampen the mood?
a week from today is Yom Kippur (sad day), followed by Sukkot (happy festival). then its all over until hannukah.
jewish calendar =/= secular calendar
Dood, how is our calendar secular (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gregorian_calendar)?
But happy new year to you anyways. :2thumbsup:

well, we refer to anything non-jewish as "secular"
I'm gonna write 5770 on all of my checks and see what happens.
