I thought it would be of interest to us all if we had recommendations on great films with epic battles. Example: "Zulu"
What's your favourite......foreign included.

Epic battles must be Saving Private Ryan (realism factor), that camelot one (bugger cant remember the name it has camelot in it tho, but obviously very fictional), most recently Black Hawk Down was ok for a modern warfare one, and err teenage mutant ninja turtles number 2 http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
My 3 favorite films are (at the moment);
1. The Ninth Gate. Johny Depp is great in this occult thriller.
2. The Big Lebowski. Great stoner movie, absolutly hilarious John Goodman plays an excellent 'Nam veteran. (i quote this film all the time )
3. Either Memento or Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Memento is to be quite honest a F*&ked up film, brilliantly made and a good story too. Many surprises so i wont spoil it But dont make the same mistake i did and watch it stoned Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is amazing an amazing drugs trip gone wrong seen throught the eyes of Johny Depps character. Make the mistake i did and watch it stoned http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif
I recomend watching any of these for a good night in or when your stuck for things to do. I have watched them all at least 5 times i think

I loved the scattering ashes scene in the Big Lobowski...made me laugh my bollocks off.
BTW. The King Arthur movie with very good battle scenes was called Excalibur...made in the early 80's I think.

Thats right the camelot ones a love story (opps ).
Yeah whats the line?
Walter(John Goodman): "His life taken like so many young men in Siagon, Timais and Hill 368."
Or the funniest bit with the child and his father with the iron lung.
Walter: * takes of jacket and tie whilst saying *
"Little ba&$erd, stonewalling me."
* gets crowbar from boot of car *
"Do you see what happens Tommy ... huh? DO YOU SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU F*&K A STRANGER IN THE ARSE"
*Beats crap out of sports car with crowbar*
Hilarious.

Best film I've seen in the last month was 'Road to Perdition'
.....worst was 'Fat Greek Bird Gets Married'.
Mine would have to be 'The Lord Of The Rings' series.

id have to say;
1)braveheart
2)el cid
3)alexander nevsky
4)gladiator
5)warlord (not so much epic battles, but not bad, much more to the point raid type attacks)
For battle scenes, I would still go with Kurosawa. Not so much because of the epic feeling, but because of the drama.

Love watching films.
As a kid Bogart, Hepburn etc anything that played as a saturday afternoon movie. Cowboy movies when I actually believed that stuff (I was about twelve when I started getting a more broad spectrum of opinions).
Favourite Movies
Fantasy: Ladyhawke (favourite full stop), LOTR and The Princess Bride (I like the humour).
Western: Pale Rider (Actually practically any western as I will watch them all... prefer spaghetti westerns/Clint Eastwood, John Wayne the least in general... all westerns are good leave the brain at the door relaxation).
Futuristic: Blade Runner, Alien Series (even the latest as I like The City of Lost Children and Delicatesance), Matrix and Terminator I/II.
Animated: Monsters Inc
Modern Biographical (actually more 'loosley based on the names in the life of'http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif: Beautiful Mind.
Past Biographical/Fantasy ('very loosley based on the names in the life of'http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif: Braveheart
War Movies: We Were Soldiers, Toro Toro Toro.
Chick Flicks that I enjoyed: My Fair Lady, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Working Girl, Bridget Jones Diary
Comedy: When Harry Met Sally, Groundhog Day,
Search for the Holy Grail, Life of Brian
I like Kevin Costner films even though he has the same lifeless voice in everyone of his movies. James Cameron, Ripley Scott and Baz Luhrmann are my favourite living directors.
Disappointing Films.
Gladiator, started out well. But where I was hoping for a classic Roman vs Roman clash of the legions had a typical hollywood ending where the main protaganists fight hand to hand (doesn't matter if it was a futuristic sci-fi it always end in a punch up and the bad guy falling on a spike type ending).
SPR. Just didn't quite gel like it should have in the end it seemed to 'Here comes the cavalry'.
Patriot. Another bulldust ending.

I bought Alexander Nevsky on DVD.............my wife thought I had lost my marbles. I still rate it as a good film........dated though.
Has anyone seen the film "Samurai Banners" I believe it to be quite a bit of an epic movie though as yet I haven't seen it
Conan the Barbarian.
Surely one of the greatest films of all time.
What is best in life?
"To crush your enemies,
To see them driven before you,
And to hear the lamentations of the women".
People hitting other people
Can you think of anything cooler than that?

The film "Gettysburg" was quiet epic and great, Seven Samurai aren`t to be missed too, but, well... we all know LoTR will beat them all.
Ran. I still remember the impact that movie had on me. It's been 15 years or more since I last saw it.
Current favorite movie
-.Juwanna Mann -- purely hillarious http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif
Most favourite epic movie
-.Romance of the three kingdoms
Iron Cross, and Private Ryan are the most epical WWII movies I have ever seen.
Russians are ferociously counterattacking the German lines.
Corrupted Lawful Evil German Captain (valour -2)
[wavering due to destruction of army]
"Don't kill me. I don't want to die. I do not want the Iron Cross any more. I am sorry"
Veteran Chaotic Good German Corporel (valour 7)
[impetous due to destruction of army]
"I wont." throws a submashingun to the captain. "You wanted the Iron Cross. Then come outside and let me show you where they grow."
*they both leave the barracks*
Russians everywhere. the German captain don't know how to arm the submashingun.
Veteran Chaotic Good German Corporel (valour 8)
[impetous as death is closer]
"hahaha...Hahaha...BWAHAHABWAHAHAHA"
