I'm a noob here so I wanted to say hi.

I also have a question which is more to do with RTW engine than anything.

During the battle deployment phase I set my lovely little Romans up in their typical checker board setup. But if I then do a select all and left click a spot to advance its chaos - they all run about like chickens back into the original battle line that RTW originally provided. How can I stop this?

Once you have got all your romans positioned in the quincux formation, do the following.

1º) De-select them all by pressing enter.
2º) Select them all
3º) Group them by pressing ctrl+1, but DO NOT assign any pre-designed formation for them. That way they will keep their formation you gave them, at all costs.
4º) Profit! :2thumbsup:

And welcome to the forum. You ask a recurring question.

I got to add though that in about 1% of the battles they will ignore your nice formation even if you have grouped them. I find this happening when I set up a really complex one. Which is probably realistic, for compålex formations only work on the parade ground, not in Real Life (tm).
