Just as a confirmation, EBII is essentially an updated version of EBI with better graphics, engine, etc?
For better AI in my battles...so I'm not sure whether I should buy the Alexander expansion or go ahead and just buy MTW2... EBII...where art thou?
EBII is not the same as EBI. It is almost a completely new thing.
Maps and units are being revised and redone. New factions will also be included.
Yes, you'll need M2TW (and Kingdoms) and a computer to match.

EB2 is the uber awesome new version of EB1. Its a proper sequel, with better graphics, more factions, deeper gameplay, etc, etc

Well, in essence the ai in M2TW vanilla is not much smarter. Thing is, it can be tweaked by the modders, to improve it significantly so it is reasonably challenging, better than RTW AI for sure.

Yes and no. EB2 has the same goals, principles and (mostly) core team as EB1. However, the team is reconcepting most of their work for EB1 in order to make EB2 more realistic and better to play.

The A.I. of M2:TW is certainly not worse than that of R:TW. I would argue it is better, although not exactly good. Modders have more options for improving the M2:TW A.I. as well.
Thats great news about the AI, Ludens.
Here in sunny Australia there is a feeling of spring in the air, a whiff of pollen and anti-hystamines and something more...
...I have a feeling in my bones EB2 is not far away.

Well, here in the Canadian prairies, the wind is beating the life out of us and the gloomy clouds promise snow. I'm setting in for a long, cold winter and a long, hard wait.

An image springs to my mind of Megas Methuselah chopping wood by a lonely log cabin with the Kuldahar theme playing.
Then Alec Guiness shows up with some Cossacks, and says "If you ever want to see EB2 you must ride with us" (music changes to Irena's theme).
Then MM is trapped on the Death Star...etc etc.
My mind is wandering somewhat.

Why would the EB team bother to make EBII when it's just the same as EBII.
No, some things will not change, but most will. And ALX.exe is not that much of an improvement.
I'm pretty sure EB2 will be a LOT better than EB1 in both gameplay (as there a lot of new options) and graphics. However, I'm not sure about the AI... makes you wonder why Creative Assembly has yet to fix the AI as it is apparent in Empire: Total War too that the AI is also stupid.
Oh and in America, the air is full of sweet freedom and the liberty trees have lost their liberal leaves in hopes of preparing for a long, cold winter.

If you bothered to read anything, you'd know by now that the M2TW AI is more easily moddable.

Technically, Canada is more "free" than America, so... Yeah. :inquisitive:
My impressions of EB 2 so far fall into a couple of areas:
1. It will take advantage of the even more beautiful battlefield appearance of M2TW. From what I see of the Gaza preview that is a given, those models are beautiful as we have come to expect from this great team.
2. It will add nuances to the political and social model using (I guess) the guild system as well as culture, religion (as politics) and the FM attribute system. The shades of grey attainable by playing these off against one another will produce a less linear conquer/convert sequence than we see in EB, for the player and the AI.
I wonder if this will let the team use less scripting? Or devote more scripts to other areas like events?
Still in my heart I long to see (selecteive) re-emergent factions (yes to pesky barbaroi, no to inbred dynasties) but I already hear the "HardCoded express" rattling down the line to crush my dream.
In all events it should be similar but better, improving some strengths and some less well developed areas too.

Never said anything about it not being moddable.
As for Canada being more free... haha
Anyways, the Romans (favorite faction in EB) will be a lot better in EB2. Check out the preview

We can be sure that every faction will be more fleshed-out in EB2. :beam:

Naked maniacs for everyone?:inquisitive:
I do take your drift, it looks like theres some quite different approaches in EB2. Did I mention how excited I am by the colonae? and the military colonies?:2thumbsup:
I am wondering when work on EB3 starts.
hah, EBII isnt even in beta yet, as far as i know. For now it's not gonna come until forever later.

ANother reason to get MIITW is that there are some other excellent mods already released that you can play until EBII shows up. Alex will keep you entertained for a month - maximum. MII has a much longer life expectancy.
Enough of the contemporary politics. Take those to the Backroom (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=19).

Good examples of that are IBFD (if you like the roman period), Broken Crescent, Third Age, and many others.

MII has a much longer life expectancy.
We can't really know that yet, but judging from how long a life expectancy EB1 offers, and how many new factions and new skins are being introduced with EB2, I think it is safe to say that EB2 will be blessed with longevity.

Won't be an EB3 most likely.

Not all generals need to be family members any more, I believe.
Maybe not quite essential change, but feel much better for RP.
I have deleted most of the off-topic material, as well as the posts responding to it. Keep this discussion on track.
Infractions will be handed out to those who continue to post about contemporary politcs.
