Seems like the earlier topic on which is best to use was pointless because it doesnt seem to have gave me much info only different advantages and disadvantages, what does everyone prefere? this will give me and the public a better idea.

You want to know whether Alex or EB is best, but you do not consider the advantages and disadvantages of both useful info? :dizzy2:

I like playing EB on Alex.exe do you mean these? :laugh4:
For better AI, less CTD, and my best mods are written for it. Minimod Pack has no BI version at the moment.
An of course more models for me...

I dont have Alex, so Im just screwed.

alex.exe is more stable. For that reason alone, you should use it.
The second best reason would be because the "mini"-mod-pack (WHICH SHOULD BE STICKIED) is for the alex version.

I have the mini mod pack. I will not get Alexander.
I play with EB Alex, mostly because a) I have the executable b) its faster, and c) I don't need the cd, so if I lose it, its no disaster. :evil2:

Well, first time I had the Alex, I play EB with Alex, less CTD, better ai, and somewhat better diplomacy.
But after proving the worth of shieldwall formations on BI (does wonder with non Sarissa Phalanx), and the Swimming ability too (stopping certain units to get a foolish death if carelessly walks over river / water), I've change my choice to BI, as they had more (albeit smaller in each force) naval invasion, night battles (belive me, pwning enemy troops one stack after one stack in the night, they'll got no reinforcements, is more realistic tactic any smart and capable commander will employ), and they has less CTD than vanilla RTW (but I must admit that Alex has really less CTD and faster loading time).
Both in BI and Alex, the AI does retrain their forces.... that's all, just choose what's best for you
(If you can't properlyu use shieldwall formation, you miss half of the BI's fun, and Alex is better if you dont like the shieldwall at all):sweatdrop:

In my opinion it comes down to this:
If you are after more challenging battle map battles, i would choose alex.
If you are after better campaign with naval invasions, and you like to use the features of BI (shieldwall, night battles and such) then choose BI.
I personally chose BI.

Nice assessment of the situation.
But I do want to make clear that you can do night battles with alex. But yes, no shieldwall formations, :(.
I've never used BI, so I don't know much about shieldwall. But reading about it does make me wish I could use it (I only play as the romans). But still, ignorance can be bliss.

Alex can do night battles? How? I've try to add night_battle enabled on the campaign, but I only got CTD as result.

I'm not a big fan of Maksimus's mod, https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=94861 (the campaign AI is destroyed by the fact that he made the rebels so strong), but he does give a nice step-by-step for how to play with Alex.
Or you could just play with the mod that I play with (it's actually about 16 mini mods), https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=105242.
for installation process; I followed RTW Gold > Alexander > EB 1.1 > 1.2 > official fixes > minimod pack > LZ3's script adaptation > phalanx mod > RS textures mod > naval strat mod > Lysander's sihunet formations adaptations > EOM 4 Carthaginian Governors Edition > Atraphoenix' RS Legions Adaptation for ALEXANDER EB. (I then modded the Roman reforms to happen sooner - I roleplay that I would do things better than the Romans did, :))

Obviously you still are not actually reading my posts or like I've said before, it's a language thing.
I DON'T play with your mod. Imo, your mod makes it so that the human faction is the only one actually "playing"/expanding/doing-anything.
I referred that link as a way to see a step-by-step example of how to set it up. Or as another way, I gave a link for the mini-mod pack(which is what I play).

Alex EB does work fine, and maybe I used older version of yours (from 1 and half year ago, I just download some link after searching Alex-EB), but I got no night Battles... So I used manual tweaking, adding night_battles enabled on descr_strat, and everytime I load the campaign I got CTD :skull:
The same thing also happened when I try to add shield_wall ability on EDU.... After some time, I tought the Alex is still good because of the superrior AI skill and less CTD, however everything changed when I found the lastest installation of EB-BI. At first I try just for some night battles, but after some experience with the shieldwall formations, and logical swimming AI (prevent my bridge battles going messy with some stupid men commit suicide by walking themself on water), things changed...
Furthermore, the BI AI also retrain their troops, much like the Alex, albeit on somewhat lesser degree...

I did some more looking into the shieldwall and I WANT it :D.
I've recently learned how nice guard mode is (I use it all the time now), but with shieldwall, it would be even better.
Still, I can't justify switching to BI just for shieldwall. I wish I never learned about it...
As to the whole night battle issue, I can assure you that it does work with Alexander. In fact, I just played a long battle at night.

You should really stop spreading false informations and if not lies, for 1. For 2, to lecture you now, since you are the only one on the EB forums that posts such rude comments about AlxEb and you have no idea about the 2 modifications.
Here it goes. Read carefully and dont spreading false informations about it in the future on the forum.
My modification has 2 modifications. 1 is Alx eb transition files only, which enables night battles everything of the AI that Alx.exe has just playing pure default EB game. Second is, EAEM - thats the mod.
And for everyone to know shieldwall is implemented in my mod EAEM, it works by tweaking EDU dont need special ability, outcome is the same.
@ Maximus
I play with your recent version of Alex EB, but everytime I try to add shield_wall in their ability, I got a CTD... just curious, can I have the proper file to launch shieldwall formations on Alex? (The night battles are also a bit buggy, as only some starting FM have the ability, and no more FM got that ability.
Personally, now I play BI, mainly because the shield wall issue...

@ Maksimus: False information and lies? What are you talking about? I gave my OPINION about your mod (obviously EAEM), I just don't like it for several reasons (mainly the human faction is the only one that does ANYTHING), period. Move on..
From day one, I've found you the rudest member here. You don't read other posts clearly, which your responses clearly show. Your responses can be rude/arrogant. You spam other threads about your mod. You spam all the time about Alexander. You are rude to others that prefer BI. Move on already.. AND leave me alone.
@ Others: I recommend the mod-pack/optional mods that use alex.exe, https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=105242. Among many other features, you will have night battles.

night battles (belive me, pwning enemy troops one stack after one stack in the night, they'll got no reinforcements, is more realistic tactic any smart and capable commander will employ)
What are the benefits of night battles? Does your side get better command/stats/moral? Or is it that the enemy just can't get reinforcements, any others?

Maksimus, applebreath, take your arguments elsewhere please.

Only characters with the "night-fighter" trait can participate in night battles, so it prevents non-nightfighter led armies from reinforcing.

But are there any penalties to the army being attacked at night or bonuses for the army attacking at night. Other than only commanders with the night trait can attack/reinforce.

the commander who could participate in night battle (barely a night fighter), get +1 command when fighting at night. everyone that participate in the night battle (except the one that was attacked - doesn't need to have night battle traits) will get additional command points. If really experienced in night battle (until gain Noctophiliac traits), get a bonus +3 to command at night, so it will effectively turn 6 star general into 10 star general when fighting at night.

Not as far as I know, but I haven't played any campaigns with vanilla BI and did not enable night-battles in EB-BI. At night, flaming ammunition is on per default, but whether this has a reason or is simply for visual effect I could not say.

This is really too much..
To conclude, I am a moder hosting my modification on these and some other RTW forums. Dont want lies and false info about my work only because someone doesnt like the mod.
I will Pm TosaInu about this very soon, I dont use anything other than fact's. Random forum users have right to comment not make up things its against forum rules.

We didn't spread lies for your work, the Night Battles in Alex are albeit buggy... Hmm, could you just keep your head cool and give some technical advice, like what kind of file we need to modify, or what line should be added?
Honestly, we did play your works and conclude it great, except with two minor nitpick... no shieldwall, and the night battles were still buggy, that's it. Please give technical advice, maybe some of us write their post as if they want to insult you, but honestly, we don't want to insult you... just to mention, many of us are not a native english speakers, and maybe our grammar and choice of verbs maybe misinterpreted. Honestly, If our posts did offend you, let us say soory. And uh, yeah.... the rebel AI in Alex is a bit stronger.

Look at the links I gave above. There is a step-by-step way to do it at Maksimus's thread. Also there is a small mod there (NOT EAEM) that does it for you. You just got to read that page and try to understand it. It is a little bit confusing.

No, nigth battles are not working for me either. I have recently installed and it does not work for me either, the check box can not be checked and my family member already have the treat...
But I just don't care about night battles, I am in search of a better AI behaviour.
