View Full Version : Unlimited men on the battlefield
Where do I change to this in the preferences?
Is there any limit on units you can control in a battle? I have noticed that when the list of units at the bottom of my screen i s full, some units wait as reserves outside the battleborder...
Thanx :)

-There is no unlimited men.
-You can only control a fullstack yourself (if that is what you are asking).
Those waiting in reserve cannot under any circumstance be controlled by you. However, if they have a general with them and you do not uncheck it on the scroll coming up that you are attacked, or if they are commanded by a captain and you check it same place (there is a little square to check and uncheck in), the AI will control them.
This however is not recommendable, for as you have probably noticed from your enemies the AI is dumb as ****, it is even dumber when it is on your side.
Ok :) Thank you...that cleared things up.

like a thousand times as dumb if its FM led. they'll charge your precious hand-groomed 29 year old straight into the sarrissas of the enemy.

There is unlimited men, but in a different sense. Usually the game will keep reinforcements from joining the battle, if the number of men which has to be represented is so high that it could be bad for the performance. If you open the preferences.txt you will find a line: UNLIMITED_MEN_ON_BATTLEFIELD:FALSE
Change FALSE to TRUE in order to circumvent that mechanism. That means, all computer controlled reinforcements will join a battle, regardless how many men will take part. However, as said by others, you yourself can only control a maximum of twenty units, which cannot be changed.
Ah I see! :) Thank you all for the answers!

And remember if you do not want them to charge on under AI command and die that if you uncheck them, then R click on enemy to look at his force composition that you must check and uncheck it again after as the game resets to AI reinforcements without it being evident in the little box. That upset me a few times before somebody here told me of it.

Wait for EBII, it'll probably come with the unlimitted men flag ticked.

Just wanted to add, the M2TW engine has an important advantage over RTW regarding battle reinforcements, because you have certain degree of control over them.

Not really, they still super fail die most of the time. DO NOT USE THEM IN SIEGES!!!!
Thanx for all the answers... looking forward to EB2 :2thumbsup:

What did you mean by this?

When looking at the scroll telling you that you are attacked or attacking an enemy ans showing the leaders of both sides of the battle you can R click on the enemy to check the force composition of his army.
If you do this after you have unchecked any secondary army from AI control, it will revert back to AI control if it has a general and it will not be visible to you (the box you click will still be empty). Ergo you have to check and uncheck AI control of your secondary army again- if you have a general or FM leading it.
