View Full Version : EB no longer working after computer shutdown

Hey folks,

I have installed EB and adapted it to run on BI.exe. Things have been working just fine, however last night the power flickered in my apartment, causing my computer to turn off while EB was running. No big deal I thought, I had an autosave, so I would just go back a turn or so.

However, when I turned the computer back on and rebooted EB, I have discovered that ALL of my save games are deleted (all 15 of them), and that EB's main campaign will no longer run. It CTDs every time I try to start it.

This all seems quite bizarre to me, especially since all other files and settings for every other program appear to be working perfectly. Files I created between EB installation and the power problem are working fine, and my settings are good too. The ONLY program affected by the shutdown was EB, and EB was the only program running at that time.

Has anyone else ever had this problem? Is it a known bug? Is there anyway to retrieve my savegames? Can I at least get the main campaign working without having to do a total reinstall of RTW, BI, EB, EB 1.2, BI adapter mod, etc?

It all just seems strange. I worked at Rome Total War Heaven a few years ago, right as EB was being made and released, and I can't for the life of me recall any sort of problem like this.

Oh well, thanks in advance for any help!

Bad stuff that happened to you, it could have even banged you PC:bomb2:

BTT:
Maybe, maybe some files were crushed as it flickered. Did you look in your saves directory? All files disappeared? Can you start EB, and it crushes at the beginning or after you started a new campaign?
If you can start EB, try to disable videos, maybe this can do the trick.

Thanks for the reply. Well, it's so odd. My saves file is completely empty. And I've now discovered that the game also crashes whenever I attempt to play a custom battle.

Not sure if this matters or not, but I am running on Vista. Perhaps there is some bizarre compatibility problem wherein if the game does not properly shut down there is file damage?

I suppose I'll just have to do a total reinstall.

In case of your save-files:
Search with recuva for your missing files, if you got luck then you find them.

I would do a complete new install, no guess what other files could have been damaged...

be sure to check your GPU! After some lightning, my laptop crashed down, and a month after it burned inside from the GPU....:furious3:

Thanks, I've decided to just do a complete reinstall anyway. As for the computer itself, nothing tripped on the power strip, and I've had nothing weird aside from this, but I'll keep an eye out. Thanks!:sweatdrop:

You can also try to use Advanced File Recovery (http://advanced-file-recovery.com/). It restores photos, videos, documents, and other important files deleted by mistake or intentionally. It scans selected folders or the entire hard drive and shows all deleted files that can be recovered. You can also preview files directly in the program without actually recovering them. I like that different media types are supported such as memory sticks, hard drives, memory cards from digital cameras, floppies, external drives etc. So, I think that this program will help you.

Not sure if this matters or not, but I am running on Vista.

That's the Problem!!!! Vista will "try to repair" all the files when something bad happens and give report to microsoft, even without you are noticing... ad maybe your EB folder was "rpaired in the security area".....

That's why I hate Vista now!!!!!
