Quick question about the barbarian invasion expansion. Will installing this prior to installing EB allow me to fight night battles and get the benefits from BA in the EB mod? Do I need to install patches or something different to play EB on it? Tried searching for the answer but couldnt find it.

You'll find the answer to your question in the "Eb Unofficial Modding Projects" sub-forum. Sorry not be more helpful but I don't use the BI exe myself.

You'll have to install EB then download Ferromancer's Installer for BI from the mod subforum.

Why not? From reading about it there seems to be a much more agressive AI, AI naval invasions, night battles, shield walls, swimming around bridges and more. As it is the game is very easy even playing on VH so making the AI more aggressive seems like it would give a better challenge.

Of those, the only usefull thing for me are the naval invasion. It adds another dimension to the game. It's also the main reason that i use EB. For example, in my current Romani campaign, i have to have a massive fleet to prevent Epeiros and Carthage to attack me with their massive land armies... It's a forcing way so that you don't became to rich

In my experience there is very little difference between A.I. behaviour under RTW.exe and BI.exe. In BI you do have naval invasions, and these can play major havoc, but not infrequently they are pointless and undermanned against targets that the A.I. couldn't hope to hold. Never mind that it encourages the "A.I. declares war at you because you are a neighbour"-problem.

There are back up files, X_before_bi.xx's in the folders, if you downloaded Ferromancer's installer.

Hoplitai / another non-sarissa phalanx class with shieldwall, in my opinion, are rather quite useful especially if you play on defensive. As they will create nearly impernetable front, (even if it was only becomes a short line), but that line is soo stable while more flexible than sarissa (even when they are shorter in reach than sarissa), so you could concentrate yourself on the flank with cavalry.

3 Hoplitai haploi in shieldwall can hold and even rout hordes of Gaesate if you play them right, with attrition battle of course. but you still need your generals to support their morale, and missile units for sthe main punch.

But the installer replaces the generals rally cry (which I never use) with the shieldwall option.

As far as I've seen that only happens to Areus, Akrotatos, and Eudamidas as they have Spartans as bodyguards instead of the normal units.

In my installer there is an option to turn off shieldwall, while still keeping other options. That was kind of the whole point of the installer.

Once I'll be done with the two big projects I'm involved with (XC and EB2) I may try my hand at unlocking BI's full potential on EB.
Let's just say that there are a couple potential scenarios that could be extremely interesting but would require a lot of work.

Well you can't stop at saying " I could do something extremly awesome in the future, but i won't tell what it is"

Please, tell us what you mean? What alse could BI bring to EB?:clown:

Once XC4 will be finished maybe I'll try doing the same with EB but that would require a big team as it's much more complex and a titanic struggle for a single modder, no matter how talented.

In the installer I used I made sure to not change anything about the formations. essentially all I wanted from BI was the naval invasions. Its (as far as I can tell) far better. As romans I have had repeated attacks on capua by the carthies. And in my current casse game the carthies have almost conquered the 3 cities in the south of greece. Incredible expansion. I am happy with it, but really depends on whether you care about anything like that. The game is great regardless.
