Is there any news on this? I heard that it would be released by 2010 early on when it was released, but I have heard nothing about it. I was hoping that it would be released with the 1.5 patch, but apparently it wasn't.

I think they announced somewhere that it would be released just before NTW. When I heard there were no more 'major patches' I was dubious about the MP campaign...

Lusted reported that we could expect an MP campaign beta some time in the future (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showpost.php?p=2318925&postcount=34) in the wake of the NTW announcement. When that is, however, I dunno. :shrug:

Thanks Monk! I hope it is soon. :P It may sound silly, but it was hearing that announcement that made me buy E:TW. I have been looking forward to that for sooooo long! I spent countless hours doing Hotseats with my friends and bros, but this promises to be much funner!

You're not the only one.

Perhaps you remember the Letters from Brandywine collab (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=113235) that we did after the ETW demo hit? TinCow and I had planned to do an entire MP campaign, writing up battle accounts and providing points of view from various sides of the same war.

It's been a long time, however, I don't think anyone expected the MP campaign beta to take this long. I know I didn't. :shame:

I didn't think it would take this long either. I have barely played E:TW at all yet, as I have still been waiting for campaign MP. :P

it was originally going to be released a week or 2 after the release of ETW but with the amount of problems with the game itself post release it was pushed back. one of the CA guys said, they did not want to release the MP campaign until they were mostly done with patching that way no one would be cranky about AI stuff or something with the game or until they were happy with the state of the game. They also said it wouldn't be released until just before the release of NTW, I wouldn't expect it any earlier than 2010, I don't expect it any earlier than that, it would be a bonus, so thats it! just have to wait till the end of the year.

It could come at any time but I think we are getting closer to MP Campaign release now that CA is done with major patches.

Has anyone ever thought about doing some sort of massive multiplayer game with about 5 teams of players? That would be pretty cool but a huge commitment. It would take the AI factor out of the game so we can see the full potential of ETW.

MP campaign is (going to be) 1v1. One person vs one person.

depends how popular it is they might make it bigger! that would be awesome, but trying to coordinate that many peopleat the same time surely would be impossible

pever, I think you have that wrong. MP campaign is not 1v1, or at least not restricted to that. When the Daily Update was still running, and the devs were talking about the MP campaing, there were 2 devs playing and they were on the same side. One was France and the other Spain, or something like that, and they were talking about how they were trying to support each other.

What seems clear is that it's at least 2 players. I'm not sure if they ever said that was the total number of players that could be involved. I supposed it would also be possible for the 2 human players to play against each other, but it seems clear that coop was at least possible.

The MP campaign isn't necessarily player versus player. It's just a grand campaign except each player plays as a different faction. The players can choose to ally, to go to war, to ally and THEN go to war, or just be mutual buddies for the whole campaign.

This hints at a 2 player only campaign.

That's what I took from that bit as well. While I wouldn't at all mind an MP campaign that allows 4-8 players, I'm under the distinct impression that it's being restricted to 2.

(I'd love to be wrong about that, though!)

Hmmm...I hope that you are wrong too. :beam: To be honest though, I will love it either way. :beam:
