Wait, what sort of pie? The sweet dessert pies as in America or the true, main course, usually meat-containing pies as in Britain? I would prefer the British pies to American cake, as American sweets are the worst abomination in the culinary world of America. Alright, fast food is still edible and sometimes even tasty, but I have yet to try decent American sweets. Any pastry or cake that is OK in America is either a pie (they are much tamer) or imported. Otherwise, everything else is utter rubbish.

:dancinglock::clown: - I hope not, especially since Tribsey is not here.

Pies pretty much just liquid cake. It can't compete with real cake though.

Methinks you are making your pies wrong, a pie consists of tender chunks of steak by itself or with mushrooms, onions, carrots, or basically whatever veggies take your fancy, all cooked with a bit of gravy in a pastry. They can be big enough to feed the whole tribe, but the best kind are hand sized pies. Now I'm dying for a pie and my oven is broken :wall:

Sweet food is disgusting, I hate pie. And cake. A good pie is a meat-pie or a quiche. Cake, yeah I know what you are going to ask, yeah once never again.

If you include pizzas and pot pies then it's not a contest. Plus I made my own ice-cream pie for kicks a month or so back.

So pies it is.

Am currently in the process of consuming apple pie.

It is good.

A pizza is not a pie, it is a flatbread topped with tomato, cheese, herbs etc.

yes it is. its just a very, very, very shallow pie. furthurmore, a deep-dish pizza is essentially a pie, is it not?

I can assure you that a pizza is not a pie. A pie is similar to a tart but a pie has a crust over the top. A tart is an open pie with no top crust. A pizza is probably closer to a pie but is in fact neither - it is a flatbread with topping.

Deep dish pizza is technically a tart or perhaps (at a stretch) a flan. It is far removed from the real Italian pizza from which it originates.

Hmm, no option for both . . .

Cheesecake
Carrot Cake
Devil's Food Cake
Strawberry Short Cake

Rhubarb Pie
Pumpkin Pie
Chocolate Cream Pie

Bavarian Apple Tort (I'm not sure what category that one even goes in)

Pies and Cakes are both delicious. A world without both of them would be a sad world indeed.

The whole thing is pretty rediculous, comparing a meal to a dessert is just silly. The dessert will almost always taste better, but the meal will be far more satisfying. If you ate enough cake to fill you up like you would with a pie, then you would feel sick and if you only ate a single slice of pie like you would with a cake, then you would be left feeling hungry.

If I could only chose one or the other then I would definitely go with the pie since then I would get a full satisfying meal instead of just a few delicious bites.

Remember that in America the word "pie" means strictly dessert dish. If a pie is not a dessert pie, then it is a "meatpie" (if it has meat that is). Hooah's comparison is perfectly reasonable in the US. But even the American pies (and any dessert pie for that matter) are still more wholesome and satisfying than cake, almost like a main dish, despite the fact they are sweet.

I wouldn't call it a pie, it would basically be a really thick stew served in a pastry.

Cake is obviously better.

On another note, I hate the taste of pastry (Except for sweet pastry). So it is pretty commonsense for me.

Also, a Pizza isn't classed as a pie, is it actually more of a bread. (Which is actually closer to a cake than a pie)

Just to throw in, post=argument...

This is actually the reason I love pie: you could serve a European-style Meat pie as dinner, and follow it up with an American-style fruit pie. Hell, you could make a pie for just about every part of the day.

Cake? What is it, aside from a nasty combination of over-sweet slabs of bread and a few obligatory toppings, which themselves are far too sweet as well?
