A bit noobish perhaps, I did a search but couldnt turn up anything on this. I've noticed that many of the AARs include maps that show the territorial progression of all factions in the world and all the Eulethroi provinces, and dont appear to just be acquired through diplomacy or spying (too comprehensive and seemingly up-to-date). Is there some script trick to getting this, or is it actually done through the mundane methods I just talked about? Some also seem to be using different colours for some of the factions; I'm guessing theres a file somewhere that you can modify colours (Ptolies spring to mind as a candidate...), so can someone point me in the direction of that too, please. Thanks.
You can turn off the fog of war (which hides the map) by pressing the tilde key (~) and typing "toggle_fow". Do the same again to turn on the fog of war.
The file which you refer to is the "descr_sm_factions" found in "../Rome - Total War/EB/Data/"
open up the consule with ^
type "toggle_fow"
voila.

People are using it to help them write AARs, not to win games.

Yes, but it still is a cheat, so you can find it when you look for RTW cheats.
It's not because it is considered a cheat that it is considered cheating.

Its only really a cheat if you use it to see your enemies' movements. Otherwise i think it's fine.

It toggles the fog of war, I'm pretty sure the enemy can see the map as well.

Like I said, it's a cheat in the meaning you have to enter a cheat or change the files to toggle the fow.
I don't consider it cheating in the gameplay sense either.

LOL :laugh4:
It is technically a cheat. Linguistically if you use something to exploit something other than fair, normal, legal way , we call it a cheat.
I am writing this as a Linguist, we need a lawyer to express in law language .....
