“There’s antimony, arsenic, aluminum, selenium,
And hydrogen and oxygen and nitrogen and rhenium
And nickel, neodymium, neptunium, germanium,
And iron, americium, ruthenium, uranium,
Europium, zirconium, lutetium, vanadium
And lanthanum and osmium and astatine and radium
And gold, protactinium and indium and gallium (new breath needed!)
And iodine and thorium and thulium and thallium.
“There’s yttrium, ytterbium, actinium, rubidium
And boron, gadolinium, niobium, iridium
And strontium and silicon and silver and samarium,
And bismuth, bromine, lithium, beryllium and barium.
“Isn’t that interesting?

The professor was a happy man. Who wouldn't be? He had just discovered how to make inanimate objects sentient.

Posturing himself in preparation of the fame that would surely come, he walked over and looked at his prime specimens. Sodium, Potassium, Iron, Gallium, Uranium, and Magnesium

He waved. They didn't wave back. They were too busy exploring the fineties of consciousness. The professor was pleased. He quickly set out for home and a tabloid.

....

The next morning, he came back to the elements huddled over a corner of a room. "What's happened" he asked.

They turned their heads and stared blankly at him.

The professor decided to check the security tape footage to see what had happened. All was quiet for a while, until Potassium suddenly melted, and then blew up. Quite concerning.

Announcing a state of emergency, the professor called for a group meeting, to determine who had done this dirty deed.

Beskar, do I have to spell my role out you? I am Fe. Paracelsus once said,

He who knows what iron is, knows the attributes of Mars.
He who knows Mars, knows the qualities of iron.

I have a feeling that our enemy here is water, even though water isn't an element. Water reacts violently with Mg. Water causes me to oxidize and rust.

Everyone, please post your roles. I think I'll be able to figure out who is lying.

edit: I'm keeping my vote on Double A because his post was very scummy, but I should point out that while Beskar's vote on me initially appeared to be a "meatball vote", upon further review it shows signs of being a scummy bandwagon vote.

edit edit: However (this sounds a little like meta-gaming, but it's worth pointing out), it's not like Beskar to miss a night order. Double A, on the other hand, was mafia in my last small game and he missed several night orders.

How long ago was that? Seriously?

Tratorix didn't have a reason. Because you said bubbles, I was all like "Hey don't either the Alkali metals or Alkaline Earth Metals basically blow up when they touch water? You must be one of them!"

Now that I look back at my notes, it's Alkaline Earth Metals. I didn't think you'd be iron. When iron rusts it doesn't bubble, does it?

No, iron doesn't bubble. AVSM and I were simply conversing about what happens to Mg when water is added. Yes, it bubbles, amongst other things (bubbles are the least of your concerns if you add water to Mg).

By "Tratorix's logic" I meant that he pointed out that Double A made an unnecessary post asking if I was Mg, even though it was clear that Tratorix was Mg. Unnecessary posts are often a sign of someone being scummy, because they're attempting to shift the focus away from themselves.

And at least I explained my vote. Atheotes went on "gut feeling," which is better than nothing, but johnhughthom's vote is completely without any explanation.

Tratorix, I voted for you half in jest, but your lack of a defense is why I didn't unvote.

Yes Zain, the deadline has passed and I'll probably get lynched and turn into rust. The mafia are probably gonna win this one if people don't bother listening to your fellow townies' defenses...why is everyone afraid to admit their roles? The professor returned in the morning to find a strange sight. There was only one element left, uranium just sitting there and leering at him. Vaguely digusted, he sidestepped into the video room and ran the security footage. johnhughthom continued to stare straight ahead.

On the video, he saw gallium melt into a puddle, and sodium explode violently, revealing some strangely sentient water, Double A. Disastrous!

He rushed outside! Uranium was still there. He rushed over and tried to wake him up. It was no use. johnhughthom was an exceptionally old piece of uranium, and had decomposed to another, stabler isotope.

Scrambling to prepare a new experiment, he animated his hand, apparently doing nothing. He took a pencil and tried the same thing, but kept missing. The press were starting to knock on the door, he needed something!

Suddenly, the lights went out. Something shortcircuited the lab. The breaker box was soaked in water. To make matters worse, his hair was on fire.

The reporters came in to find a screaming man with flames on his head knocking over glasses, with no sentient being making smarmy comments.

Zain and Double A smirked in their corners, and went on to destory the world

Here is my role for those too impatient to wait:

You are WATER

When the professor's experiment took place, he neglected to even give you a passing glance! What does he have against molecules? You'll make him pay for this. Sabotage his efforts any way you can!

As a slinky liquid common throughout the entire world, you are quick and can easily eavesdrop and spy on the others. During the night phase, you may investigate someone to determine their identity as well as attempt to kill them. You may only kill IRON and SODIUM, but a failed attack will not reveal you. You win instantly if you are alive and they are both dead

Double A
10-29-2009, 05:14
By randomly investigating you :clown:

A Very Super Market
10-29-2009, 05:46
Here are the roles

You are GALLIUM

You are a soft silver-coloured element with a very low melting point. HEAT will quickly melt you and remove your sentience. I suppose the hot water that's wandering around will do the same, but the laws of nature will yield for my game!

Townie.

You are MAGNESIUM

You are a light, silver-coloured element that burns with a very bright white light. You know you're different from the other elements. Because the professor keeps you in powdered form. Why? You don't know. Maybe because HEAT will set you on fire you more easily? Who knows. Crazy guy.

If you are burnt, you will illuminate the whole area for quite a while, revealing your killer.

Townie.

You are URANIUM

You are a dull gray metal that is normally just marginally radioactive. However, the professor has screwed up somewhere, and you can now emit gamma rays for little reason but to cater to this mafia game. This has also caused you to go crazy. You want to KILL the professor.

The simple way to do so would be to get lynched. He will take you out to disposal without wearing a layer of non-sentient lead, so you can easily pummel him with radiation. You won't be around to see it, and no one will know, but he'll keel over soon enough!

No one can kill you. But if you don't get lynched, you lose. I don't know why, you just do. You're talking metal, for god's sake.

Basically, a joker.

You are IRON

You are a weak, shiny, and gray element with much ahead of you. You've heard a lot about steel, and you are looking forward to being made into it. However, there is some WATER in the lab just itching to oxidize you. What's that? Shouldn't the air be out to do that as well? Well, that's because the air isn't consciously trying to. Because it isn't sentient like you. Maybe you should spend less time complaining and more time contemplating how lucky you are, jerk.

Townie.

You are SODIUM

You are a soft, unstable metal hiding a sensitive interior. Even now, you cry whenever you pass by chlorine in her glass jar, unable to revel in self-awareness as you do. You tremble, and tears come to your eye, but then Potassium comes walking by! Curses, you can't let him see you like this! Start foaming at the mouth, spin around, distract him! Is he walking away? Running? Good. Very good.

WATER makes you blow up violently. It will also knock out your killer, revealing them.

Townie.

Mafia.

You are HEAT

When the professor's experiment took place, you gladly stood up for commendation. Yet none came. The professor was "busy" putting out his sleeve. How could he do this to you?! Then you snapped. You went crazy, and now you're out to put an end to his experiment!

As a ubiquitous part of the enviroment, you can sneak around and spy on others with ease. During the night phase, you may investigate someone to determine their identity as well as attempt to kill them. You may only kill Gallium and Magnesium but a failed attack will not reveal you. You win instantly if you are alive and they are both dead

Mafia.

Once again, the town was exceptionally unlucky. With a No Lynch option, it might have gone a bit better. The idea was, one of the mafia would be lynched after unwittingly killing someone who would reveal them. The other would then be forced to lie low and investigate, giving the town some extra time. Uranium was a joker role that I thought would make for a silly end to a mini-mafia game. The idea being that it would go unnoticed until the end, at which point the professor would suddenly die of radiation sickness and give them the victory.

Of course, things went differently. The mafia both investigate first thing, so I decided to not tell them about the revealing townies. Then the lynches went very badly, sealing their fate. If I ever do another game like this, I'll have to keep no lynch as an option, maybe limit the mafia's investigations (Although that wouldn't have helped in this case), and perhaps make it a small game. But I don't want to give up the split personality plan...

Right, but I expected that they would at least waste some time finding people who they couldn't really kill. Not so in this game. Double A found Zain on the first night, got his first victim on the second night, and killed him on the third.

Double A

No, we couldn't kill people unless they were 2 of the ones we had to. We investigated for our targets and then on the next night we could kill them if they weren't lynched. So in effect it limited our kills. Our efforts were completely separate, and it is pure coincidence that one of our targets were killed by lynch and we found the other the night before. If Iskander hadn't been lynched Zain would have enjoyed a solo victory I believe.
