This is from Piers Paul Read's The Templars:

Raymond's (Raymond II of Tripoli) murderer was a member of a fanatic sect of Shia Muslims, the Assassins, (Hashishin) who, like the Sicarii among the Jewish Zealots, pursued their objectives by the covert killing of their enemies.
Their name comes from the word hashish, the narcotic which, according to the crusaders, induced a trance which made the killers oblivious to danger.

Interesting huh? The assassins were a bunch of stoners http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif

well as far as i know it was 1977, do a search on google yourself and type: Groucho Marx 1895 and all the results say 1977 Again I could be wrong, and if I am thank you for pointing it out

after a few replies there's still no mention of gameplay, so off to the Monastary it goes so the historical conversation can continue.

well i never heard of them till MTW but i thought it was pretty obvious from the name alone, not to mention the end turn pop-up they get in early period.

though to be honest they were probably chasing the dragon, louingin in the poppy dreams, smokin opium baby. not pot. but calling them stoners is plenty accurate.

The Old man of the mountain...the Aga Khan, would have the newbies, drugged and taken to a secret valley filled with all the pleasures of life...beautiful young women, fine wines and food etc. The young men, who had never experienced such things, were told that this was paradise and if they died in the service of the Aga Khan they would return to this paradise forever...naturally the thought of death didn't put them off. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

The Old Man Of The Mountain lived in an impregnable fortress, the generals of armies that travelled to attack it would wake to find the knives of Hashashin in the pillows beside their heads...and would go home if they were smart, it was finally sacked when the introduction of cannon made the defenses obsolete...

hashahins are the ultimate general killer. If you are defending, then place them forward and to the side. Try keep the enemy away from them. Make sure the hashashins dont have skirmish or fire at will on either, and just wait till the enemy passes you by, the in the early stages of the battle, hit the general. I find hashashins fare extreemly well in h2h. One unit of mine faced and held 3 units of ghazi's and some javelins. they fled in the end due to being outnumbered, but they killed about 70 men all up, not bad for a 12 man unit
