View Full Version : Arverni in Galatia?

In my Baktria campaign, I noticed Galatia was owned by Arverni. It was the only province the Arverni held, besides the starting provinces. The year was 244 BC (give or take a year, working off memory now) and the situation in Europe was similar to the starting situation (I checked using toggle_fow).

My question is, how the heck did this happen?! And, does/can this happen when you're playing Arverni yourself too? I never really considered playing a barbarian faction, because you hardly ever get to sack a major city (apart from Rome and maybe Kart-Hadast) or fight a prolonged war against a Hellen faction. BUT, if you get to play as Galatians, then I can see myself gathering a force of barbarians and sacking Antioch, Seleucia, Babylon, Susa and Persepolis. :yes:

Ankyra's sub-faction is the Arverni, so if it revolts, then it becomes an Arverni province.

Or Eleutheroi, seen that as well.

Ah, I see. So there isn't really a way to force the Galatians to join your faction when you're Arverni, is there?

You can send enough spies and assassins there to make it rebel.

In theory that is, I have tried it with 6 spies and 8 assassins and the city in constant riots for 8 years or so, so I doubt it can be done in practice.

I had only two short Arverni campaigns so far and it had never revolted to me...sadly. While when I'm not with them, Ankyra keeps getting in to their hand. :shame:

I got it yesterday...and only noticed because i got a message saying that Pontus was declaring war on me :).

Hehe, it rebels to you. In my last Averni game, it was Winter 272 and I got stucked with a war declaration from AS on me :clown: Kinda roleplayed then but holding ground in AsiaMinor and Gallia is very hard, at least if you don't cheat to just play galatia independent.
I saved the file instantly, can have a look whether I find it or not. But I'd to reinstall EB in between time.

Or Eleutheroi, seen that as well.

That happens a) if it revolts against the Arverni, logically, or b) if the city center has already been upgraded by the new owner.

I've seen it revolt to the Aedui too (after the death of the Arverni)

Shure? I thought there can only be one faction besides Eleutheroi, a town could rebel to.

Macilrille

Yes, I think the thing is it will rebel to the nearest gauls, can Kyrene not rebel to more than one faction as well?

Well, that depends on desc_strat.txt:

Ankyra has faction_creator scythia --> Arverni
and sub_faction gauls --> Aedui
So it will rebel to Aedui after being upgraded to the next town lvl. It does not rebel to the "nearest" barb faction, it will never rebel to Getai for example.

Kyrene has:
faction_creator romans_julii --> AS
sub_faction numidia --> Ptolemaioi
So it will rebel to AS and then to Ptolies after being upgraded.

If of course Kyrene or Ankyra would be conquered by let's say the Romans and they would build the next town lvl, it would rebel to Eleutheroi.

So if you wanted to mod that, you would have to change the entry for kyrenaia in the desc_strat.txt (not save-game compatible). You could for example make Kyrene rebel to the KH instead of AS. You can however have only 2 factions it can rebel to, one for the start (faction_creator) and one after the rebels build an upgrade (sub_faction).

I don't get you entirely. Ankyra will rebel to Averni except if any (?) faction upgrades its town centre? Then it would be aedui?

Ankyra will rebel to the Arverni at gamestart. If the rebels build an upgrade there, it will rebel to Aedui. If any other faction conquers it and builds an upgrade, it will rebel to Eleutheroi.

I believe it (Ankyra) starts out as a large town, so as long as it stays a large town it will revolt to the Arverni, but if it is upgraded to a city, before it is conquered by anyone, then it will revolt to the Aedui.

In my current campaign, both Ancrya and Kyrene rebelled to the Arverni and AS respectively.

Ancrya got taken by the AS and then Pontus, but there is still an Arverni army lurking near Byzantium.
It's been there for about 10 years now.

Ankyra will rebel to the Arverni at gamestart. If the rebels build an upgrade there, it will rebel to Aedui. If any other faction conquers it and builds an upgrade, it will rebel to Eleutheroi.

That's it. The faction to which a town will rebel is determined by the "faction-identity" of the governor's residence as well as the current owner. If the "faction-identity" is the same as the current occupier, the town will rebel to the eleutheroi, else it flips to the "faction-identity".

Faction_creator for Ankyra is set to Arverni, so at the game's start the governor's residence belongs to the Arverni (description and image are those of the Arverni residence). This means that is someone conquers the town and it rebels before the residence is upgraded, Ankyra will flip to the Arverni. However, the faction_owner is Aedui: if the still-eleutheroi town upgrades, the residence will turn into the equivalent Aedui building, so from then on it will rebel to the Aedui.

The problem with it revolting to the player if one is a Gallic faction, I believe the Gauls don't get the full range of units that the Galatians have. Am I right in this?

Yes, you are correct. The Gauls do not get the full range of Galatian units. Only a couple iirc...

Don't they get access to the normal equivalents of Galatian units in Ankyra?

The almighty RV says, they get only these units there: Sotaroas, Leuce Epos, Iaosatae, Galatikoi Kluddolon, Gaeroas, Botroas, Lugoae, Keltohellenikoi Hoplitai, Celtae Vollorix

It's strange that they can't train high tier units there, like the Wild-men.

Model-sharing problems. Tindanotae share model with the Gasaetae. Galatikoi Lavotuxri share model with the Brihentin. Galatikoi Kuarothoroi share model with either the Argos or the Solduros.

I thought they could recruit Gaesatae and Brihentin in Ankyra to make up for this :shame: .

Ahh, I see, didn't know that. It's probably still fun to get this province with a Gallic faction.

I think that's because the Galatians are exiled Celts themself, and the Gallic factions certainly didn't want to train their enemy's crack unit that could rebelled against them...

No, I doubt that. I wouldn't call them exiled Celts, because I believe Greco-Celts in the area of Massalia were contacted the Galatians in hopes of stopping the raids on Greek territory. Or something like that. But I certainly wouldn't call them exiled Celts and I doubt the reason for the lack of heavy cav and heavy inf is for anti-rebellion reasons.

I do find it odd that the Gauls can't recruit the Gaestae and heavy cav in Galatia, though. Can't that be modded?

doesn´t work like that, i discovered that just sending a decent diplomat and let him stand there for a couple of years normally gets the job done expecially if you´re the koinon hellenon only place i had trouble and didn´t got was sinopse wich was being rulled by the pontiac faction leader

sending spies and assassins can indeed speed up the process but you need the diplomat to be there talking to the population telling them how much better they would be as free man inside an alliance of their equals that could protect them (assuming you want them to rebel to you ofc if you just want it to rebel i have no clue since i never tried it)
