Well they blew up the Chicken Man in Philly last night
Now they blew up his house too
Down on the boardwalk they're gettin' ready for a fight
Gonna see what them racket boys can do
~ Bruce Springsteen, "Atlantic City (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-LIEr43_wk)"
In recognition of the Phillies/Yankees World Series, I've decided to make the sequel to my original Omertà game (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=116725) Philadelphia vs. New York-themed. The system I'll be using is essentially the same as the original, with a few minor tweaks.
Atlantic City, Fall, 2009
Earlier in the year, the Philadelphia Mafia was on the brink of extinction after two of its precious Made men turned Stoolie, violating the unbreakable code of Omertà, or silence and absolute loyalty. As is custom with Mafia conflicts, the outcome was very bloody, with only three of its members surviving either arrest or death. Finally, when it seemed as if the family was on the verge of collapse and Don Anthony Giampetro had just been apprehended by the police, the Don's Hand, acting under orders, eliminated the final threat to the family, thus closing off the police's "in" to the organization.
Quietly, the family began to organize under the direction of its new Don, Vincent Selvo. As it turns out, Don Selvo was more adept than anyone could imagine, and within a span of months he had almost built the family's numbers back to the way they were before the Stoolie Crisis. However, as the Don is about to find out, numbers do not equal trustworthiness.
You see, the Five Families of New York, sensing an opening, began to move their men into Atlantic City, which had always been Philadelphia territory by orders of the legendary Mafia Commission. Don Selvo, upon discovering this, took offense and took his case to the New York-dominated Commission, which promptly denied any instances of wrongdoing. Seething, Don Selvo decided to take matters into his own hands and began to move the bulk of his operations to the Jersey Shore resort town in order to send a message and muscle any potential competition out of the way.
It seemed to be a success, with Don Selvo quickly reestablishing dominance over his former territory. However, little did he know that the Commission had anticipated his move and already inserted operatives of their own into his family. Faced with extinction once more, Don Selvo and the new incarnation of the Catalano Crime Family must use the best of their abilities to root out the traitors and reclaim what was once theirs. With tensions between Philadelphia and New York already at a boiling point because of the World Series, the savvier residents of Atlantic City realize that things are going to get bloody before a winner is decided.
This is war. This is Omertà II: The Battle for Atlantic City.
Game basics:
Welcome to Omertà, a small Mafia game, named after the infamous code of silence as outlined in the prologue to the first game. Much of that game is based off of George Anastasia's book Blood and Honor, which I highly recommend and I hope to turn into a Large game one day far down the road. This incarnation follows its predecessor several months afterwards, taking into account that game's outcome.
The main twist of this game is that everyone is a mafioso; however, some of these things are not like the other.
Rules:
Standard rules apply. No screenshots, no quoting PMs when dead, etc. "Abstain" and "No lynch" are both acceptable options, although it is entirely within my discretion as host to change the rules and what kind of votes I accept at any time.
Roles:
Each player will receive a PM with abilities, some of which are unique, some of which are not. Some players may have no abilities aside from the standard townie ones. I may eventually rework this post to provide more information about roles here. For now, Don Vincent Selvo is the only role that is guaranteed to be on the Philadelphia mafia's (town's) side. The Don's powers include partial immunity.
Should he wish to play, Sasaki Kojiro will automatically be granted the role of Don Selvo, as that was his role in the last game. Should he choose not to join, the role will randomly be assigned.
Finally:
Have fun! :2thumbsup:

True, I do not like Miss Universe, but more for the fact that it is not really a contest. But the title is correct as far as I can see. A "contest" to find the most beautiful female human in the universe. The fact that humans can only be found in once place of the universe doesn't make the title any less true.

It is now Night 1. All orders are due Thursday, October 29 at 17:00 US Eastern (slightly over 24 hours from now).

A couple of administrative notes:
First of all, unlike in last game, only three roles got names - the Don, Underboss, and Consigliere. The rest of you just have your role's title.
Secondly, I have given the mafia New York mafia cover PMs. As a matter of fact, the New York guys were determined after I had sent the original role PMs, in order to test the flexibility of the system.

Night 1
Back in Philadelphia, all of the members of the Catalano family had front jobs. You see, every mafioso had to appear as a respectable businessman to the public, or, at very least, the cops. These jobs were quite varied. Some where barbers. Some were antique furniture dealers. Some were bartenders. And some... some were pizza shop owners.
Askthepizzaguy was one of these pizza shop owners. And he was the kind of pizza shop owner that loved his craft, and was even still involved in it many decades after starting out. Despite living the life of a mafioso, he had grown to embrace his double life, and became well known as a pizza connoisseur. He even wrote a few review columns for the local paper's food section.
It was thus that ATPG viewed the family's sojourn as a vacation. While the rest of his buddies were out gambling and drinking, Pizza decided to sample the shore town's local parlors. So, at any given time, he could be found eating.
And eating and eating and eating.
There were three knocks to his hotel door. As a minor local celebrity, Pizza could afford to live a bit more lavishly than the rest of his comrades without arousing suspicion. Thus, he was holed up in a fancy suite at the Borgata hotel.
"ENTER," boomed a voice that from outside sounded rather like Jabba the Hutt with a head cold.
The door opened, and the hotel worker that wheeled in ATPG's food cart saw only a bloated, disgusting creature that looked at the mountain of pizza with beady eyes. He grinned, but it was unnoticeable with all of the other folds of skin that covered his face. Two massive arms reached out, almost groping for all the pizza.
You see, ATPG was quite a connoisseur.
"I'll just leave this for you here, sir," the hotel worker said smoothly, Pizza not noticing his slicked back hair or his fine Italian suit under his hotel uniform. He wheeled the cart right up to the blob, making sure it was within an arm's length, and then departed.
"WAIT," Pizza said suddenly, and the hotel worker stopped, trying not to show any nerves. "YOUR TIP. FETCH MY WALLET, IT'S RIGHT BY THE DOOR. TAKE ONE $50 FROM IT."
"Thank you much, sir," the worker said, moving to the wallet and breathing a soft sigh of relief. "Have a good night." He took his $50 and exited the room.
One hour later, Askthepizzaguy lay dead, face-down in the still-uneaten pizza. His gluttony had finally overcome him, his cultured mouth failing to pick up on the fact that the pleasant, unfamiliar taste was poison.
That morning, Don Selvo called each of his Capos, telling them to summon their men to his secret hideout in Atlantic City to discuss events. One of them had been attacked at night, after all.
"Gentlemen," he said, in a very smooth tone, "one of us has been brutally murdered last night, and I suspect it was on the orders of the Mafia Commission. Well, we will not stand for this. The Commission may be the sovereign, but it has broken its own rules by declaring Atlantic City open for business. It is not. AC has and always will be our territory, and I know that at least one of you in this very room is working for New York. If you had any sense, you would leave now and take that message to your bosses."
Everybody was silent. Nobody moved an inch.
"Very well," said Don Selvo, "We'll do it the hard way. You are all intelligent men. Therefore, we will smoke out the rat by democratic vote. Whoever has the most votes by the end of the day will leave the family... forever. I hope you all get my message. Begin voting."
It is now Day 1. Voting will conclude on Saturday, October 31st, at 2:00.

Night 2
Halloween night in Atlantic City. The resort town was less active than usual, thanks to both the rain and the Phillies game on TV. Despite these two large deterrents, the determined were still out, parading around, trying to get their hands on as much candy as possible.
The town council, keeping in mind its reputation, imposed a very early curfew - 7:30 PM. However, it wasn't often followed. Tratorix was one of those people who, if somebody came to his house, would give them candy. He had learned after all the years to give back to the community, after all. Becoming well-liked was also a bonus because it kept the police off your back.
Around midnight, though, Tratorix was becoming fed up. He was generous with candy, but a man needed his limits. The game was turning for the worse, and Tratorix was ready to call it a night when the doorbell rang once more. "Lousy kids," he grumbled to himself, reluctantly hauling himself out of his chair to answer the door once more.
He opened the door to find a fully-grown man, wearing all black and a Guy Fawkes mask. The trick-or-treater was totally silent.
"Aren't you going to say 'trick-or-treat'?" Tratorix asked.
The man shook his head.
"Sheesh, kids these days," Tratorix said, launching into the timeless old man's rant. "Not even saying 'trick or treat' anymore. You come out at midnight and you just hold out your hand, expecting candy? How about some common courtesy? How about some respect for the people that don't stay up until the sun rises every day? How about you grow up and stop taking part in a festivity meant for little kids?"
The man was silent.
"Ah, wait, no, of course not, you didn't think that through," Tratorix said, adopting a mocking tone. "You just want your candy and then you'll get out of here, right?"
The man shook his head. Tratorix, for the first time, got a puzzled look on his face. He then took out a pistol and suddenly Tratorix understood everything. In a flash of fire, Tratorix's Halloween ended just as the Yankees brought another man across home plate.
The next day, Don Selvo once again called his men to order.
"Gentlemen," he said, "this is horrible news. First of all, another one of our good men was gunned down in the night. The New York families are clearly out to get us. But secondly, and more importantly, we're now down 2-1 in the Series and Sabathia is pitching tonight. To make things worse, the Eagles are playing the Giants this afternoon. Hurry up and catch the traitor so we can root for our boys and help them pull through. New York must *not* be allowed to claim victory in any of these arenas, yet alone all three! For Philadelphia!!!
It is now Day 2. Voting will conclude Monday, November 2nd, at 15:00.

Night 3
It was an off night for the Jersey Shore resort town. The Phillies had survived Game 5, defeating the Yankees at home and were taking the day to travel to New York. Obviously, no football was on, and nobody was quite into hockey and basketball seasons yet to pay any notice. The weather was now too cold for much vacationing, but yet still too warm for the locals to go elsewhere to get warm. As a result, the town was quiet tonight. Very, very quiet.
Double A was sitting in his hotel room, rereading his copy of Jayson Stark's book "Worth the Wait: The Story of the 2008 Philadelphia Phillies" for the umpteenth time. As a mafia lifer, Double A placed his faith and trust in very few things. Money and omertà were pretty much it, as was the mafia hierarchy. However, Double A still believed that his team, his team he had been following since he was a child, would pull through.
He flipped the page, taking a long look out over the beach and the ocean, as he read once more about the great story of Jamie Moyer. Moyer, a pitcher in his mid-40s, had been defying his age for over a decade now. It appeared to have finally caught up to him this year, but Double A still appreciated a good story. As someone who knew he was getting older, Double A appreciated Moyer's story more every time he read it.
"Kids these days," he muttered to himself, "no respect for their elders. Traditions. Nothing in it for anybody except themselves. Even the Commission. Lucky Luciano would have a heart attack if he saw what they were up to today. Not even bothering to settle this Atlantic City dispute in a reasonable manner? Everyone knows AC has been Philly territory forever."
Placing the book down, Double A paused, and then put on his coat. Yes, this would be one of those reflective nights. The call of the beach was strong, and he would take it up, walking its length while he pondered all that was going on.
After about a mile of solitude, he saw a figure walking the opposite direction in the distance, drawing ever closer. He hoped that this figure too would be lost in his own thoughts so they wouldn't have to bother exchanging the usual pleasantries, but that was ungentlemanly of him.
The two figures did end up passing by, Double A noticing his opposite had a trenchcoat and stylish leather gloves. Failing to make any connection, he nodded and simply continued walking, not noticing at all the other man removing a silenced pistol from his trenchcoat and using it on him.
The very few beachgoers the next morning were treated to a very unpleasant sight, one that caused Don Selvo to call for another meeting to try and root out the traitor.
It is now Day 3. Voting will conclude Thursday, November 5th, at 11:59 US Eastern.

Vote:Iskander
He's my consigliere, but even they can be the bad mafia, and I think he is. The pm's he sends me when we discuss strategy have a controlled sort of "trying to curry favor and appear innocent" tone to them. I've been mafia in too many games where I tried to buddy up to a townie and get them on my side not to notice it. There's a couple other reasons too, but I want to see how things play out.
Unfortunately I won't be able to investigate him to make sure for a couple days (I can't investigate every night).
I will promote one of the capos to take his place.

Night 4
The town had taken on a decidedly somber mood in the past several days. The Phillies had put a good fight, but ultimately fell to the hated Yankees in six games. To make things doubly worse for certain "in the know" persons currently residing in Atlantic City, the New York agents were not letting up in their onslaught.
johnhughthom had been spending most of his recent time in a bar, drinking the day and his troubles away. Back on late Wednesday night and even on Thursday, he was joined by dozens if not hundreds of like-minded folk, ready to all forget their baseball team's troubles, at least for a few hours. Somewhere down the line, "Piano Man" by Billy Joel was playing, whether it was the classic recording or by a live performer who knew the scene firsthand. John didn't notice. His team was lost.
Eventually, very early on a Saturday morning, he staggered out, hopefully for good, trying to find his way home. Of course, he didn't get there, and eventually found himself on the famed Boardwalk, stumbling into one of its seedier casinos. Walking straight to the roulette table, he pulled out a wad of cash.
"All this... on red!!" he slurred, and theatrically slammed it down on the table. "Red for the team that never quite made it! Red for the Fightin's! Red for 2010!" He carried on like this for a while, drawing a larger and larger crowd, until the operator finally spun the wheel and dropped the ball in. Everybody watched silently (more or less) as it spun around and around, waiting as it finally settled on...
"Double Zero," the operator said. "Bad luck for you, mate." Everybody groaned. "Doubly so because it landed on what it did."
"How... how so?" john whispered, still sober enough to detect a menacing tone in voice when he heard it.
'Here's how," the operator said, and all of a sudden a tube poked out of the roulette wheel. A second later, it exploded, propelling a poison-tipped slug into john's body, followed by spewing a surprisingly large amount of smoke into the casino. The mafioso used this as cover to escape into the night as john's last thoughts were with the dead 2009 Phillies.
It is now Day 4. Voting will conclude Sunday, November 8th, at noon US Eastern.

Night 5
The highrollers' suite at the Tropicana was the place to be. With thousands of dollars being won and lost each second, and expensive cocktails being ordered and presented by beautiful women in skimpy dresses, it was the perfect place to forget that one's people were under attack.
A Very Super Market was present in the Suite that night, his poison of choice being the craps table. He saw little value in cards, instead preferring to take his chances with a game based on the most revered equalizers, the dice. "Perhaps..." he mulled out loud, "Perhaps my luck here will translate to our luck back home." All around him, he saw danger. That cocktail waitress? Could be an agent of the enemy. That drink? Poison. The pit boss for the highrollers' suite? He could pull out a gun at any moment. Those tables? They could easily combine together and form a giant robot bent on killing him.
In other words, despite the suite's numerous distractions, it was still not doing its job in alleviating AVSM's fears. As time went by, he started to sweat, and then glance more and more around, his gambling behavior becoming more and more erratic. Finally, with him down to his final chips, he rolled the dice one last time.
"Snake eyes?" AVSM said, not realizing that since it was his first roll it was a big win for him. "GAHHHHHHH!" He sprinted out of the room, hightailing it to get out of the casino. Not bothering with the elevator (it could have been jury-rigged to explode), he instead ran down all the numerous flights of stairs, knocking aside several attendants, making his way into the parking garage, and flying into his car.
"Got... to... get... OUT OF HERE!!!" he yelled, now totally crazed by paranoia, starting his car by putting his keys in the ignition.
A second later, the car blew up.

Heh, sorry cent, I was assuming there were three mafia.
We won this one with investigations sadly. I got one every other night.
night one: atheotes. He burned us last time.
night three: Iskander. He picked CR to investigate night one. Inconclusive result. CR claimed vig to me after he came under pressure. I knew I'd have a second result on CR the next day so I pushed for an A1_unit lynch. It occurred to me that iskander and CR could be mafia together and I wouldn't be able to tell. Iskander trashed that theory by lynching CR, but the seed of doubt had been planted and I decided to investigate him anyway. His tone was odd too.
night five: pevergreen. He had a claimed innocent result on sprig and was investigating my main suspect split, so I knew I had to check on him.
When Iskander was lynched I promoted pever to consig, and atheotes to capo, and asked pever to check on split because of his "I shall wait on this evidence" post when I asked for votes on Iskander. He got the guilty result the same round I got the innocent on him.
