I understand the requirements from the FAQ, but can someone give me the details on the bodyguard cavalry thing?

The way it's worded I assume I have to lose my whole bodyguard unit (ie. my general) in order to trigger the reforms. Does the general really have to die?

Also, how low quality can this large army be? I generally build more units as my economy increases and keep income at like 20k each turn at max (then use it up on buildings and retraining), so building the cheapest army would be most helpful....

No, the general has to survive or he won't gain the "intrigued by cataphracts"-traits. IIRC he has to lose 20% of his bodyguard and 20% of his army (I can't check the files on this computer). The quality of the army does not matter.

Thanks, that's much more detailed than the FAQ. I was really confused when it said I had to lose a with a large army as well as my bodyguard.

Perhaps more specifics in the FAQ or a clarification to other players? I was prepared to throw away two old coots as soon as it hit 253 B.C.......whew.

As a side note, do all generals get the "Believes he's Devine" trait often? My generals are getting them all the time, and I suspect it's because of my temple of atargatis.....love the trade and law bonus though.....

You can lose the armies earlier than that: the intrigued-trait can be picked up at any time. The reform will be triggered when it's 253 BC or later and you possess two generals with this trait. IIRC it does take a couple of years before the reforms actually occur.
