I had a couple of quick questions about the Automanage Construction option that hopefully someone will be able to answer for me. First, when a new town emerges do I get to choose what gets built or does it get selected automatically and does this also apply to the ports and observatory/opera house option. And secondly, does it automatically build upgrades of all buildings if I have the funds to pay for them.

Thats a very good question, and hopefully someone that has used that feature will be along to help you shortly.
In the meantime however, do you come from a place where women glow and men plunder?
I think I can hear some thunder. Better run, find some cover.

I bought bread from a man in Brussels
The guy was about six foot four and full of muscles
I said, "Do you speak-a my language?"
He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich

I have never used auto manage when I could avoid it.
I remember RTW...
But as you can click easily within the game you could try it for a turn or two.
My guess is that it will take the first town type from the list. If you notice they are often rearranged.
If you have more than one or two observatories, chances are you will get museums.
With ports, looking at the AI I see very few ports other than fishing ports.
But it is all just guess work, because like I said, I don’t trust it, and looking at AI regions, do you?
Hello, here is what you do.
Automanage is a good but loose feature. If you destroyed a Mosque and leave that spot for a few turns, a church will get build ontop of it. (If Christian nation in Muslim territory, obviously)
But it always gives you a few turns "grace" before it acts. During this turns, you select what you want built, automanage never destroys anything.
As for walls, when you get a lot of income and nothing needs upgrading or building, sometimes it starts to build city walls. Just saying that, incase if you want/don't want that.
Automanage is very good for upgrading pre-built stuff like farms and automatically upgrading them upwards. Sometimes I usually forget to do it, if I do it manually, or don't see that they need upgrading, so it is a handy feature.
Automanage never leaves you bankrupt, it always leaves around 3000 in your bank, sometimes more, depending on the size of your empire. This is a safety feature most likely, so it, in itself, would never bankrupt you.
As for upgrade options on buildings, you pretty much have to do that yourself. Otherwise it would automatically choose.

i odnt know why you would want to use automanage. even my first time playing RTW i found it incredibly annoying and stupid.
it takes about 5 seconds to select to build a building, just manually do it.
This is not RTW, it is a completely different system.
Also, it automatically upgrades buildings, even though you keep accidently missing.

I like to be a hands-on with everything in ETW but I can clearly see the benefit of auto-manage when you've build yourself a big empire. By that time the amount of management can take the fun out of the game itself.

though admittedly once you've reached 50 provinces.....the game gets so trivial you just start a new campaign.
at least thats what happened with the Marathas. conquering central and south america, the carribean, all of india, and Sweden, denmark, and much of northern europe starts to make it boring.

Something to take note of: Not everyone feels the same way as you.
Yes, automanage is not optimal. But I refuse to micromanage when I get above 10-15 cities. Especiall RTW/M2TW.
After my empire becomes too large I often try to upgrade as many things to max as fast as I can. Therefore I sometimes spend 1-2 turns income only into improving roads and governmental buildings etc... It really helps you to remember stuff when you don't have to worry about little things like roads and such. Also construction report is very helpful when trying to remember stuff.
I don't trust automanage construction because it's bad enough when I argue with myself on what to build :dizzy2:
