View Full Version : Why does EB have such "huge trees"?

What is the reasoning for having such huge trees?
Imo, when you have to move your troops through a "birds eye" view, it makes no sense to have trees that block almost all of that view. Meaning it is hard to see or move anything without a very long "micro-managed" battle, which is such a waste of time.
Add in that the trees can be buggy with troops moving around and I'm at a loss as to why EB didn't fix this.

there is a submod or something out there to remove most of this.

Yeah, I'm using it. I'm mainly just curious as to why EB has "huge trees" in the first place.

What, didn't you know that everything back then was bigger? Its in EB, therefore its historicalal.
EB do not follow history, history follows EB.
;) Left-over that didn't really get addressed I guess. New tree models im sure was being planned numerous times in the development.

This scares me, but also makes me wonder would have happened in history if Celtcs/Thracians/Insert minor EB faction here dominated the world for thousands of years rather than Rome?
In the real world Sweboz dominated Europe for many centuries. Someone just finished a Roman campaign so things are messed up. ;/

Impossible to guess. Such questions can not even be attempted.

Well if the Greeks took over we'd be eating a lot more Shish-Kababs than Pasta.

IIRC they did not have mapper when they were preparing versions 1.1 and 1.2. For the same reason there are some broken tiles in Asia and Africa.

Didn't the Celts pretty much take over Europe you know for a few hundred years?

I think this game has too many trees, when I attack an army on the campaign map I'm constantly thrown into a huge untamed forest despite there being no such woodland on the strat map :wall:
Oh and the same with elevation; the amount of times I find myself having to scale epic mountains whilst being butchered by a storm of javelins blows my mind. I find myself going stright for siege battles because at least there's relatively even ground and no damn trees!:furious3:
Rant over
Well, as a matter of fact, playing as Sweboz... i looove those same danse and dark forest that so many people here hate... how many Have I been beaten by roman legions on even force, but massacred... no... butchered them, with considerably smaller force, due to those same blessed forests!

If they were fixed some, then I would also like them too because they add an epic feel to the game. By fix, I mean that when you zoom all the way out, you should be able to see your men and nearby enemy, highlighted or in some sort of foggy view. Then you could at least tactically move your men around.

The green link in my sig.
Edit: You already found it.
Has anyone ever actually been a fool, and decided to keep the giant trees?
Also, I would have thought that was the kind of thing which would have made it's own way into an official EB release.
