Hey Guys,

I was playing a Romani campaign until yesterday when a complete game crash prevented me from playing anymore.

This is what happened:

I narrowly lost a battle (city siege) in which my general/family member died. Refusing to accept this, I quit the battle. I then proceeded to reload the game to a file previously saved right before I fought this battle. I've done this before countless times with no problem in RTW, BI, and EB. Not the case this time around.

When I reload this file, an icon on the left side comes down, telling me that the general has died, despite the fact the battle hasn't even taken place yet! I have two other save files, one as a backup from the previous turn/season, and the other is the autosave file.

At this point, if I load any of the 3 save files, the icon shoots down on the left side of the screen telling me the general is dead and within 5-20 secs the game crashes.

I have tried reinstalling the game. The 1.2 fixes are applied. Nothing is working.

I will be really disappointed with Europa Barbarum if this is the end of my Romani campaign. I have put alot of time into this campaign and it would be a complete waste of time if it is all lost.

Please help me, staff and fellow gamers, so that I can continue enjoying this game, rather than removing EB from my comp with a bad taste in my mouth.

-Joe

Wow, seems your savegame is corrupted....

That has nothing to do with EB, so works the RTW engine. In other cases I would recommend to play the turn without the script, but if it now crashes direct after loading....that is indeed odd.

If you upload a save I can give it a try.

Thank you for your assistance.

Here is the main save game file:

Hey Joe,

I tried it with several builds I got on my PC (RTW/BI/ALX) and everytime the game even not loads.
Some weeks ago, a similar case showed up (after lightning the saves went mad), and nobody could help :embarassed:

If RTW bugges his files, you are doomed (as far as I know).

Maybe bumping this thread in some days will help to get some public and some more ideas.

Greetings and in any case DO NOT STOP PLAYING EB (that would be the worst day in your life:whip:)

Here is the autosave file from that deadly trio. Maybe, it will provide some success.

I also realize that my comp is perhaps not the best build to run EB. Despite that I have an Alienware, it is a 2002-2003 model with an aging video card.

Rome Total Realism runs much much better, both faster and glitch-less on my comp...so far (knock on wood). I got love for EB but with its higher reqs and apparent bugs, I find some bug-hunting by EB's devolopment staff is needed. And so is a NVIDIA 9800 GTX card for me.

Still, if you can somehow save this fallen situation by working out that save file. I would then render EB perfect.

Only the Best

Seems you savegame has been damaged: vanilla EB hangs and ALX just crashes. I hope you have more savegames (personally, I keep last 20 ones). And this is RTW engine bug.

If iamphet says your save is corrupted, than it is corrupted. Sad, starting new is something very ugly.

To bugs and EB:
EB maxes the possibilities of RTW out, much more than RTR. To run it smooth at least 2GB RAM is recommended, the video card does not matter that much if your RAM is enough.

Switching to the Alexander-exe ist something that minimizes bugs and RTW CTDs, see the minimod from Maksimus (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=94861).

Don't stop to play EB, you will regret it later..:smash:
