Why does the forum keep logging me out?

I have it set to remember me and it always has done so. Now, every time I leave I am immediately logged out.

I had to log in once yesterday, but now everything is back to normal for me.

Using IE.

I've been like this since about for ever. If I leave it for about ten minutes, it logs me out.

Same as the above three posters: I had to log back in once, but otherwise no issues. (This was with FF, by the way.)

At home (on FF) I now regularly have to log in again. At work (on IE) it works fine.

Perhaps it is a cookie issue?

I would recommend clearing your cookies, closing your browser, re-open then use the org then, it should work.

If you're using Firefox, have a look under Tools > Options > Privacy. Accept third party cookies is presumably ticked, as you're able to use the site. In the drop down box, it should read Keep until they expire. Underneath that is a box titled Clear history when Firefox closes. Untick it.

That box was ticked indeed. Thank you Pannonian for the assist. You earned a Pizzaguy award for helpfulness.

Any tips for Opera?
I only have a very old version of Opera, but on mine, under File > Preferences > Privacy, there's a box titled Delete cookies when exiting Opera, that should be unticked.

You know, it would help if people give more info, such a browser they're using, etc. If you ring helpdesk with the complaint "My computer doesn't work", but with no further info, you're not likely to get things fixed.

What does it say in your Privacy tab? Which boxes are ticked, which boxes are unticked, what does the dropdown box say, etc.?

Hello,

It also does that for me with FF, but right now it doesn't. Maybe I need to reset the sessions.

No problems here...

I have a whole bunch of computers which I frequent during a week. I had to log on one time on each computer since the last maintenance.
The last one at my work place today, returning from Swineflu quarantine, had the username and password ready in the log-on fields. I just had to press log on. Common for all is one log on and its been ok since.

Same here. I had to log in a single time, and that is it. And I do use Firefox.

Your workplace computer was suffering from swine flu? Did it have any injections? Silicon injections, perhaps?

Ya know.. I sneezed all over it, and a group of men in yellow suits rushed in and took it away. I don't know what they did to it, but it works sooooo much better. It's as if I just have to think about entering in data and it happens. AMAZING!!! Workdays are so much better....

Qt library 3.3.8b

I really should get the Qt 4 build...

But it's the forum, not my computer or browser.
Everything worked fine and I changed no settings whatsoever when this started happening...

Try clearing temporary internet files and cookies. In all honesty IE is not a good browser. Try one of the alternative free browsers on the market such as Chrome, Firefox or Opera.

It happened to me the first time over a week ago, just like everyone else, but has never happened again since then. I didn't change anything or clear any files or cookies, it just happened that once for me.

I was having the same problems in FIrefox 3.5.5. Ended up removing the totalwar cookies via tools / options / privacy / show cookies and it looks like it's OK now.

Two things I can think of.

First, what others have said, purging one's cache/cookies/etc can sometimes fix this. It happened to me once also, but hasn't happened again.

Second, it could be browser settings. Firefox can do something called "private browsing", which automagically purges all user data when the browser is closed. This means cookies, cache, settings, url history, etc. The other part in Firefox is in the Options/Privacy tab, "clear settings" when done. If either of those are used, it could cause this behavior.

IE is a giant turd and I refuse to use it, so I can't provide any help there.

I might have found a workable solution for Opera users. I changed the expiration of the org cookie from 2 days hence to 2010-11-24. Instead of logging me out every 60 minutes, I've moved around the org for 4 hours now, uninterrupted.

Tools>Advanced>Cookies

scroll down to totalwar.org, left-click; highlight/select the second entry (starts with: "SESS1..."), click "edit", change the expiration date to waay in the future. Close.

So far, so good.

-edit-
nevermind. Logged me out after 6 hours.
