A three-piece supergroup with a member from QOTSA, a member from the Foo Fighters and a member from Led Zeppelin...

what does that get you? a kickass group!

Their debut album comes out next week....in the meanwhile the band themselfs has put the entire album up for streaming on youtube.

Interesting. I don't like Grohl, but I do like JPJ and Homme, so I'll give it a listen. Will be back after listening to the album.

Ok, have listened.

It's alright. A little pedestrian and derivative for my tastes. Drumming could be better, the guitar, bass and effects are good, but they're let down by some pretty average drumming. Homme's on vox is always good and his lyrics are always sharp. They could have made it a little louder, meaner and faster in places. Lacks real powerhouse dynamics to make it truly special.

I'm gonna sort of agree with Psycho here. Josh Homme is a really good musician, but he really needs to pull the cactus out of his ass and start playing something more biker-rockish than the same old desert rock he's been doing since the mid-90s. As it stands, these are decent songs, but it feels like the band is really pulling its sonic punches. Homme is also either totally incapable of or completely opposed to self-indulgent guitar noodling, which is something this band could use a good dose of.

yes..that is true...but if you really look at the current musical scene Homme basically IS desert rock...he is the ambassador of the style, and frankly nobody even comes close to contesting that, there is no one else there really doing the kind of thing Josh does (at least to the same level of quality), while biker-rockish bands are a dime a dozen.

in other words...if it ain´t broke...don´t fix it.

it is true that the vultures are basically QOTSA II......... if I had heard this album with a blank name on it I would have thought it was the new QOTSA album, and I love this album, because I love QOTSA.

now...since this is a different band it should sound different, I get that...but if you put 3 guys in a studio and the style of one of them overwhelms the project... is that the fault of that one guy? or of the 2 others for not putting their foot down?

one positive thing is this is their attitude of posting the album for free on youtube seems to make the point it ain´t (primarily) about money.
