Probably The Well (http://www.well.com/aboutwell.html) since 1985, although conversations between 2 or more computers had been going on for 10 years or so before that. Documenting and archiving that/those conversations started in the mid-late 80's, but really took off in the 90's with the 10-fold increase in electronic storage space (who really wants to print out entire conversations for record-keeping, like we did in the 80's?).
