View Full Version : will there be some kind of early alpha "demo"?

so we can "play test" ?

example .. 2 factions with 3 or 4 working units each side (does not matter if some units are the same for each faction), so that we can play around in MP , and see how it is all working on the mtw2 engine

i know the devs probably test everyday , but people can test their current system specs, and look for any bugs(or issues with certain units) as we play some epic 4v4 MP.

this could also open up debate as to how certain units should be functioning in the new engine and how they are currently represented.

oh yeah, i know this topic is taboo on forum , just curious to see if any of the devs agree with this or not? delete if you must :2thumbsup:

The EB team might release EB II in beta form, that is what they did with EB I.

Isn't that what the Gaza campaign supposed to be?

Is it already playable?

kind of thinking a bit less than a campaign , hence the early alpha part of the topic.

The Gaza campaign is supposed to be a tutorial for everyone, (some) team members included: so we may finally understand what Foot wrote all that PDF & announcement material about. It is somewhat separate from the main campaign, not in the least because it will feature characters (Ptolemaios I Lagou, Seleukos I Nikator, Demetrios Poliorketes to name a few) that are long gone by 272 B.C and because it is a tutorial.

When we release something expect it to be of alpha/beta quality not because there is no beta testing going on (at least I assume our old beta hands do update their builds from time to time to have a look): simply because there is no QA (abuse) like a bunch of worked up fans having a crack at it for a few months and reporting us all the horrible flaws, follies and fixes.

It's always better to have too much feedback than not enough, but I can fully understand the team's position if they decide not to. They have enough on their plate just getting the mod finished, finishing touches and polishing it off can come when they're damned well ready for it.

A mass play test I assume would allow any kinks to be worked out of the general unit arch types (pikemen, swords men, light units, missile units, cavalry and so on).

Wasn't EBII slated for some sort of incremental release after the Gaza Campaign where you would release Beta and quickly add things?

Ok, I'm just going to mention this here because it seems to be related to what we're talking about. I already mentioned it in the Twitter discussion thread but no one seems to care over there (I'm not sure why, I was excited by this).

When I was reading the provinces and authority preview, I just noticed that at the end of the guide, there is a sentence that says that the previews are the "precursor to a number of Tutorial Campaigns." It doesn't sound like they will be alphas, but it does give the impression that we are to expect more than just the Gaza Campaign for tutorial campaigns.

Take a look yourselves (it's the link in the post towards the bottom of the page about new gameplay features), does anyone agree with my conclusion?

I saw that but that was a little bit ago, wasn't it?

A little bit ago maybe, but the preview I found it in is no more than two or three weeks old, and I was surprised that I hadn't seen anyone on the forums mentioning the fact that there was going to more than one tutorial campaign. Maybe I just missed a thread or something? Because I thought no one had really mentioned this...

Well it was noticed. And it wasn't exactly new. Just look at this (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showpost.php?p=2040541&postcount=104) comment of Foot.

Oh, I'm sorry. I guessed I just missed that. Sorry to pretend to discover something that I didn't.
