The Oliver Stone movie I'm sure will be fine but I shudder when I think of the rest, especially about Baz Lurhmann's Alexander film. I found Moulin Rouge completely unwatchable and I'm afraid what he will to do to such an interesting and compelling subject as Alexander. The Last Legion just sounds silly (much like that Viking/Arab movie with Antonio Banderas that I can't remeber the name of). Vin Diesel is a B-thriller movie actor and I doubt Hannibal will stick to history at all or be any good. Maybe Troy, I'd see anything where Brad Pitt gets killed http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif, and the Thermopylae one will be good though. THanks for the info.

13th's warroir => that Viking/Arab movie with Antonio Banderas.
Hannibal will be less accurate then Braveheart(don't get me wrong i think it's one of the best movies ever made)
I think you give to much credit to Vin Diesel

The great tragedy is that all these big budget sword and sandal films are sure to suck. Oliver Stone? Coke nosed has been whose best work is far behind him. Baz Luhrmann?? Check out his modern remake of Romeo and Juliet for a flaky encounter of the third kind. Gladiator was a gorgeous looking piece of sh|t that possessed the depth of a sun shower puddle. That movie's most redeeming quality was the 15 minutes or so of carnage that took place inside the arenas and the Roman colisseum. Talent wise Derek Jacobi was a sight for sore eyes but his onscreen time was tragically too short to have a positive impact. Sad commentary on a film that cost over $100 million to make. Even sadder is that Gladiator and its plebeian appeal is the mold from which all moderns epics will be cast.

One look at the directors and actors involved in these Alexander biopics and other ancient epics is enough to make me stay home and twiddle my thumbs patiently until Rome Total War is released.

Stone has Collin Farell. A better choice but far from decent.

Oh, both films shall suck big time. Luhrman is going to portray Alex as some weird queir, dancing and singing along with his blood-thirsty troops ("now, let's go for the phalanx-hoop" http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif ) while Stone shall focus on the conspiracy part of Alexander's life.

Both shall bear some sort of happy ending: In Luhrmans version Alex will be transported by aliens in modern Sydney and go onstage in some fancy drag show, while in Stone's... well, for stone death is happy ending http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif
