Hello everybody,
When I play Europa Barbarorum 1.2 with Baktria, I have some difficulties to train some units. More precisely, in Southern Arabia (Hadramaut, Qataban and Saba), I am unable to train Hellenic Native Phalanx.
I know Saba is able to do so in these territories; Recruitment Viewer tells MIC 22, level 3, province 44. For Baktria, it tells MIC 11, level 2, province 44. :book: This should mean I can train them there with a second level native training MIC, right? Well, I can not! I thought it was because I chose a Type-IV government, so I demolished it and built a Type-III. There again, when I look at the description of the level 2 native MIC, Patadapoi Phalangitai is not written. In fact, Patadapoi is also not available, even if it requires a simple level 1 native MIC.
Also, why are there so territories where I can not hire any mercenary general, like Sind (India), or all Southern Arabia, including Maketa (Strait of Ormuz)? This makes settlement management very difficult, as Type-III governments supposedly allow me less unit types.
Lastly, I am unable to train Hetairoi Kataphraktoi. I read somewhere else that the Roman need a huge city in Italy for me to get such a bodyguard unit. Is that right? In my case, that would mean I will probably never get it. It is still strange, as my neighbours got their late bodyguards units, like Sakas. Is there any cheat code to allow that?
Thanks you for your time. I love EB, and as the setup suggests, it indeed made me read more history!

Welcome to the org!
concerning the missing client rulers see this thread (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=109949&highlight=client+ruler)
and the phalanxes:
If you build a gov4 and build a barrack (native or factional) it becomes a "gov4-barrack", meaning you can only train the allowed units. If you destroy the gav-type and replace it with another, the barracks do not change. If you want to get your phalanxes build new barracks after the new gov-type.
PS: Recruitment viewer:
the data is outdated, IIRC it is from 1.1, so be careful

Thank you for your answer! I will try to modify the texts files so that I can add Mistophoron General in these settlement. I will also try to demolish both my Type-III government and my regional barracks, rebuilding after another Type-III and a native barrack.
Another issue I have forgot: Is there any reason why I can not build any type of government in some settlement (like Indi regions)? I can not demolish them any previous government because there is no previous government, so I can not build another! Perhaps meddling with text files would also do the job?

I think it is not related to any files. This is also new to me. They should be destroyable, just like any other building. If the city has changed its owner many times between AI-factions, there are many of old 100% damaged gov-buildings.
Would you up-load a save so I can look at this specific problem?

Not true!
Government type defines the possible level of both factional and regional barracks. The type of factional and regional barracks is the same under any kind of government, only the possible level for both varies.
What you wrote is only true in regard to some reforms (one of the Celtic reforms, probably others too)
Vintotal, what do you mean by "native", factional or regional?
Lastly, I am unable to train Hetairoi Kataphraktoi.
You cannot train them, they are your late bodyguards.
This means any Baktrian general coming of age after the "March of Time" event should have them as bodyguards. Just as it is with your rival factions.

Have you build the "pacification/military occupation" building?
Or maybe a government building is there, but not readily visible because it is last in a list of many buildings, so you would have to scroll down to see it?

Thank you both for your help!
Vintotal, what do you mean by "native", factional or regional?
By native I meant factional, sorry. I wrongly made an association between units having "native" in their names and units only some factions can train.

That is what I feared. Is there any way to manually activate the "March of Time"?
Have you build the "pacification/military occupation" building?
Right, that is the first thing to look at. It is like having a defect toaster and not plugging it. :idea2: So yes, I built a pacification building first (Diallage Enchorios). And yes, I scrolled the building list. Thing is: some cities have so many buildings, maybe the engine does not support the possibility of scrolling more than once. I can never show more than 24 buildings (6 in a row, four rows including scrolling). I can not say with certitude that some cities have 25 buildings, the last being the government-type one.

As for the text files modifications in order to add mercenary general recruitment in some regions, I have failed. I guess I will just force Family members to emigrate to these distant regions and built Type-III government there. :whip:
I have included my save-file here, if XSamatan wants to take a look:
http://site.voila.fr/ZyX_Histoire/alpha4/sBactriane.zip.
In this game, I am unable to build any type of government in many cities, like Taksahila, Patala, Opiana and Karmana. Those are all => 24-building cities.

Well, in theory it should not be true, but I can indeed see that a factional level 2 MIC in Sabata should allow training Hellenic Native Phalanxes after having destroyed both the previous government building AND the factional barracks present before. Maybe what XSamatan proposed is a kind of bug-avoidance trick. :sweatdrop: I can not confirm yet, as my level 2 barracks will be complete in six turns, but it looks good!
Even though barracks building possibilities should be determined by government types, maybe it is not adjusted dynamically. Perhaps you can:
Build Type-IV, build regional barracks up to MIC level 5 -> get a lot of foreign units.
THEN
Destroy Type-IV, build pacification, build Type-I, build factional barracks up to MIC level 5 -> get a lot of factional units.
Thus getting the best of two worlds. :2thumbsup:

That's possible and I do that rather often. It's an exploit though and some players look down on it.

That is what I meant to say. Building a lvl 4-gov and upgrading it to max allows elite units to be recruited, then destroy gov and build lvl 2, as an example, and now building max own barracks is possible.
I gpt this from a thread I do not find now, but I will search it.
There was something said that you can upgrade a local barrack to lvl 5 if you just have the lvl 4-gov type at the first stage of the barracks and you could destroy the gov and rebuild it

I have tested your savegame.
Some points:
-you should not save during the AI turn, it can cause all kinds of problems if you load such a save, reputedly.
- as you suspected, you need to destroy some buildings if you want to view and/or destroy your Indian governments
-you have high level regional MICs, but only level 1 factional MICs in Arabia.
Build level 2 factional MIC, and you will be able to recruit your phalangitai (see screenshot below).
