Did the Byzantines still own Naples in 1087. If so, who did? Was it inpendent? Or under Sicilian rule? Or someone else? I need to know who to give Naples to in my mod and i want it to be historically accurate. Also I looked at a medieval map in the 1100s and Provence and Toulouse seemed to be inpendent. Should I make those rebel too?

did a little research alman. Here's what I found. In 1087 the Byzantines owned a very small part of Naples, notably the rich and relatively merchant city of Bari, which fell to the Sicilian/Normans in 1091 and so the Byzantines were ejected from Italy permanently. I'd say that since the Sicilians controlled the majority of the province I'd give it to them.
Toulouse should be independent as well. not sure about Provence.
Edit what I said. The cities of the province of Naples were given semi-autonomous status under the Byzantines and many did not fall until thee 1120's. However the area of direct Byzantine control was small and the Sicilians controlled the majority of the province albeit the poor and peasant-filled country side. Now I'm not sure what you should do. It depends on what you think is more important for ownership of a province: wealth or area of land.
