The Elite Units of America Downloadable Content for Empire: Total Warâ„¢ adds 15 new elite units to the American, British and French factions of Empire: Total War. In the last half of the 18th century, the political upheaval from thirteen of British Colonies in North America ultimately led to the 1776 Declaration of Independence and changed History for ever. The 15 units from the Elite Units of America Downloadable Content have all played a major part in the American Revolution. Though their background owes a lot to European military traditions , their identity is tied to the destiny of the United States, and gave these men courage and audacity like no other soldier on the battlefields. I've seen on the screens that some units (Hessian Grenadiers, Brunswicker Dragoons, French Grenadiers) in DLC don't have moustaches. They are clean-shaven. It's quite unrealistic, the moustaches were very popular in German and French armies. They we're characteristical for many units (just like uniforms, hat, etc.). The only army that ordered it's soldiers to shave was the English and US. All other armies, especially French, Prussian, Austrian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Dutch and German countries had moustaches very often. All hussars, lancers, uhlans and cuirassiers (excluding cuirassier officers) were obligated to wear moustache. In the screens you can see French, Hessian grenadiers to be clean shaved. It doesn't fit their image at all. Please do not add bears. Those are 2 different things. Only units wearing beards at that time were sappers. That was their characteristic feature. Please, take these things into consideration.

In all 15 screens of DLC we can see that same face. All soldiers are brunettes and they don't have wigs :)

Well in the not too distant past you probably could not tell if a unit had a moustaches or not because the textures were not that detaled so I think CA can be forgiven for not doing a study of historic face hair. Any way it dose not matter to me as I can only run with medium graphics so I would not see them any way.

By the way the units uniforms look quite good to my eyes.

If it bugs you that much, draw some facial hair on the skins.

I can't imagine someone enjoying the game any less because their soldiers son't have moustaches.

P.S.
I propose you mod all the things you feel are not exactly right/historical and offer it in the mod section. I bet you'll get a lot more respect instead of all the eye-rolling when you start yet another thread about how some uniform isn't the exact tone it should be.

Well this was the great age of sail and facial hair. Facial hair that lasted to WWI.

I question the validty of his sources since anyone can make things up and it wasn't like the guy was standing in front of the entire regiment and so forth.

One other question I have though is did each and every soldier in these regiments have the same facial hair or was it varied?

Cause if so, then we'd be getting some soldiers in the regiments with beards, mustache, or clean-shavened which makes it more diverse.

But to not let CA know about a potential flaw is even worse.

We all want their games to be as perfect as possible.

Your assuming that CA doesn't have those same books the op images were pulled from....

Nice picture as well as uniform. Thanks for sharing them.
