The game has totally aged now, but it will always remain a cult-classic.

I recently found the game on my hard drive after many years of dormancy. I started it up again and was quickly enveloped in nostalgia of all the good times I've had with it. :grin2: Anyway, are there any good mods for the game...? That are still available of course. I never got around to getting any before but when I started it up, a couple days ago, I really wanted to get back into the game. I've got a strong urge to play it right now actually. :sweatdrop:

You, my friend, are in for a real treat.

There's a huge modding community centered around the Freespace Open project. Essentially, the source code was released a while back and people have updated it and the graphics significantly. So not only are there tons of mods, but even the original Freespace 1 & 2 look fantastic.

The main community hub is http://www.hard-light.net/

To get the Freespace Open installer, start reading here (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Getting_started#Installing_FreeSpace_Open).

I actually purchased Freespace 2 two nights ago off of Good Old Games (http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/freespace_2). I installed Open with "the works" - all the enhancements and a ton of mods and campaigns. Right now I'm playing through Freespace 1's campaign, ported to the Freespace 2 engine.
