Merry Xmas and I join the chorus of praise. However, I also have some constructive criticism.

As most of you know I do a lot of re-enactment, some of it pretty rough and real, and has for close to 17 years now. The last pic those guys bending knee to attack low are very off-balance, a slight push would topple them and their attack would have little power. I can provide links to vids of HEMA fights if you wish to see some good and balanced stances.

Further, is JB's feet not too small compared to the body?

Thanks for the sneak peaks and effort guys, and merry Xmas, Yule or whatever you call the winter solstice to everybody.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and a festive Saturnalia to all!

Surprisingly a lot of non-Christians seem to celebrate Christmas. I've even seen pics of Christmas decorations and Santas in Japan of all places.

lol, I love how the spell checker knew what Saturnalia was but argues against the use of the plural form of Santa.

Well, those are vanilla animations. We have done and we intend to make even more changes in the animations departament, but it will be impossible to remake all the vanilla anims to make them more realistic.

Just trying to be helpful, I have quite a lot of experience with sword-shield or 2-hand spear ;-)

But oh well... nothing to do about it then. You guys are still doing a fine job.

It's really better than EB1 for the historical accurancy :beam:
The main difficult is to make the shields with the celtic art of the good period. One example, a shield decorated with the art used during the third century BC:
http://www.archeoart.org/images/B4.jpg
It is inspired by the "style of the swords" like this one:
http://www.archeoart.org/ef-v10.html#
It is so difficult to draw shields with a style as complicated as I think that it is not easily improvable.

The only remark, and it is important, it's on the system of suspension of the scabbard!
During the third century BC:

Edit: the re-enactment, source: http://www.archeoart.org/images/Mathieu_2005.pdf

Thanks EBTeam for your work :2thumbsup:

Thas some great research you did there, but did you had to quote Gustavs entire post?

Gustave
12-26-2009, 16:51
@Genava : Yeah I know this shield, it comes from the french reenactment crew "les ambiani". I used this design for a celtic shield.
https://img691.imageshack.us/img691/4118/shieldsarverni.jpg
The elite units have 3 stages of evolution, which give them more armor, larger shields bosses, etc, but I didn't create different shields patterns for each era because it's just too much work ! So I used a mix of different era's patterns.
About the scabbard suspension system, they are present on later era's units, but the one you can see on the screenshots is the early one.
...and sorry for my bad english ! I'm french and this is well known that french people have a horrible english.:laugh4:
BTW you should wait for the preview to make criticism !:smash:. But you will be happy to know that celtic cavalry doesn't use round shields anymore...

Salut Gustave,

@Genava : Yeah I know this shield, it comes from the french reenactment crew "les ambiani". I used this design for a celtic shield.
It's not the Ambiani, but Franck Mathieu, director of the group of re-enactment of the third century BC "Les Leuki". Then, the shield is a model of the third century BC

The elite units have 3 stages of evolution, which give them more armor, larger shields bosses, etc, but I didn't create different shields patterns for each era because it's just too much work ! So I used a mix of different era's patterns.
http://www.archeoart.org/images/B2.jpg

http://www.archeoart.org/images/B4.jpg

http://pagesperso-orange.fr/leuki/images/03srg07.jpg
http://pagesperso-orange.fr/leuki/images/04fh01.jpg

http://www.les-ambiani.com/2008/reims/musee_reims_10.jpg

L'évolution des umbos:
http://www.archeoart.org/bou-v4.html#

In English:
A shorter overview of the Gallic art. During the fourth century BC, the art is called "vegetable continues". It's look like that:
http://www.archeoart.org/images/B2.jpg

During the third century, the art is increases in "the style of the swords":
http://www.archeoart.org/images/B4.jpg
https://img7.imageshack.us/img7/3740/boucliercelte225.jpg
https://img32.imageshack.us/img32/624/img046t.jpg
http://pagesperso-orange.fr/leuki/images/03srg07.jpg
http://pagesperso-orange.fr/leuki/images/04fh01.jpg

Then to finish, during the second century BC, the Roman influence becomes more persistent (the trade in the south of Gaule enormously brings Italic products in central Gaul) and thus of this mixture is born a style named “Severe” which is that one frequently sees on the Gallic shields, with esses (“S”) and the torques, a checkerwork etc
http://assoc.cladio.isuisse.com/images/bouclier.jpg
