Hey guys,

I'm new here so I hope you wouldn't mind some stupid questions on my part.

Anyways, I've recently begun playing EB as Hayasdan, but there is one problem: The Carthaginians steamrolled through Italy and Rome went extinct(around 220 BC, give or take) before the reforms ever took place. Does this mean whatever upgrades (I don't know all the triggers) wouldn't take place because the March of Time trigger could never happen? I'd hate to resort to cheating in order to fix this, because this is the first RTW game were I haven't cheated in some way (so far :p).

Thanks in advance

Off the top of my head I can't remember which reforms Hayasdan have that is tied to March of Time. Only bodyguards I think. But as far as cheating goes, I don't think you can cheat once the romans are dead. It requires a Huge City in any Italian city except Rome that is of Roman culture. Once there culture is gone you can't get it anymore.

Well, if bodyguards are all it effects it wouldn't be a big problem for my faction. However, it still might be a problem for other factions that have more important triggers. I was wondering if there's any way to mess with the folders in which the triggers would happen even without the March of Time, or change the requirements of the March of Time itself.

You can't change requirements for MoT. They are hardcoded.

There are a couple of units tied to the MoT, but all major reforms are independent. It won't have a big effect on your game unles you are dying to fight the Hysteroi Pezhetairoi.

Actually he can fight with them. He just have enable them in edb file and that is save game compatible.

That is not save game compatible as far as I know.

that is of Roman culture.

No, every culture is fine, you can upgrade it yourself (as long as you can upgrade to huge city) and give it back to the Romani, the culture of the "Huge City Building" doesent matter.

Ceterum censeo Romam esse delendam.

See, thats what I don't really understand. Coz the 'Romans' in the mod are for all intents and purposes just the seleucids as far as the game files go. So why is it only limited to Rome then? Shouldn't Baktria then be able enabled to activate it? They are romans_brutii I think. In vanilla any of the 3 roman factions could enable the reforms, suddenly its limited to 1 faction only in the new mod.

If my reasoning is correct I can't see why it can't be tied to any faction that holds a huge city in an Italian province. Or at the very least tied to Epirotes and Carthage as well as they are mostly likely to invade Rome early on as a human player.

romans_brutii is faction name and not culture name. You can add what ever culture to faction. Of course, within the hardcoded limits of RTW.

There is only 1 faction with Roman culture and that is Romani( "seleucid" is their faction name).

So, that means that AS, Bactria and Pahlava(or was it Hayasdan?) can't trigger March of Time event because their culture is different although their faction names in the game files have "romans_" in it.

So you are saying only a single culture can trigger MOT; pity. I wonder though that the game designers wouldn't make a more common culture such as 'western greek' the trigger for the reforms.

Like you pointed out, 'roman' is only an internal name. In that case Italy can just be an internal location. I wonder if a huge city in greece with any culture of the 'western greek' variety would be an effective trigger instead. Most of the factions that vie for greece in the early to midgame are western greek. This lessens the chances of the required culture being totally wiped out before the reforms trigger.

Is there anything fundamentally wrong with my thinking?
