500 years ago, Shang Tsung was banished to the Earth Realm. With the aid of a huge and powerful warrior, Goro, he was to unbalance the furies and doom the planet to a chaotic existence. By seizing control of the shaolin tournament he tried to tip the scales of order towards chaos. Only seven warriors survived the battles from the previous shaolin tournament and Shang Tsung's scheme came to a violent end at the hands of Liu Kang.

Facing execution for his failure and the apparent death of Goro, Tsung convinces his dark emperor, Shao Kahn to grant him a second chance... Shang Tsung's new plan is to lure his enemies to compete in the Outworld

Disclaimer: thanks to Niklas who let me borrow some of the rules & idea from his snakes & foxes 3. And also to Chand who I am led to believe made up this game.

Basic setup: A number of characters, each with their own special set of abilities, participate in a grand tournament. Every morning and every evening, two contestants face off to the death in the arena. During the day, all participants vote on which two contestants to do battle the next morning. During the night, the Mark, a hidden faction among the contestants, decide who should do battle the upcoming evening. The goal for the Mark is to outnumber the non-Mark. The goal for the non-Mark ("innocents") is to root out the Mark and be the last remaining team. The game ends when either side achieves its goal.

Time and Voting: The game will be divided into cycles consisting of a day and a night. Each day and night will last 48 hours, RL time. There will be four updates per cycle - morning, midday, evening, and midnight.

IMPORTANT: All "effects" will happen at the time of an update. This includes things like results from using scanners and other items - they will not be reported as soon as I see them, but rather at the next update. This is both to simplify my running the game, but also to make it fairer on people in time zones other than my own.

During the day - lasting from the morning post to the evening post - all contestants will vote on which two contestants should do battle next morning. Each contestant receives two votes, each of which can be for a contestant to do battle. The two votes cannot be placed on characters of the same team (and in particular not on the same character). The two contestants with the most votes to their name at the end of the day will do battle next morning. The contestant with the second most votes will have the advantage of choosing the arena (see battle resolution below).

During the night, the Mark will pick two contestants to do battle the following evening.

IMPORTANT: The two contestants that are chosen to fight will be taken into isolation by the contest officials at midday or midnight respectively, so that they may prepare for the battle. While in isolation they cannot purchase items, and no items or other effects may be used on them. Thus, all such things must be done before the first 24 hours of the day/night has passed. No changes can be made during the following 24 hours.

During the day, all contestants may also bet on the outcome of the battle about to happen the coming evening. During the night, the bet will be on the outcome of the battle about to happen the coming morning. Note in particular that this means that there is no ban on talking in the thread during the night.

Teams: The contest is conducted in four teams with three members each and a special team containing two members. Teams are important for two primary reasons. First, each living team member gets 100 mana every morning, increasing the total mana owned by the team. The longer they stay alive, the more mana they will bring in, up to the point when (if) they die. At that half of their mana will be redistributed among the other team members (see battle spoils below). Second, If you are not a mark, if you team is the only remaining team then you are victorious.

Team leaders have an extra 0.1 votes, allowing them to break (or create) voting ties. If a team leader is chosen to fight, they may name a successor to lead the team in case they lose. If no successor is named and the team leader is killed, a new vote is put forth among the remaining team members.

Stats: A character will typically start with 3 attacks, 3 resistances and 3 weaknesses. Your abilities (+) are your fighting style, the skills you use to bring your opponent down. Your resistances (x) are the abilities you for various reasons have no fear to face, because you know how to handle an opponent that uses them. Your weaknesses (-) on the other hand are the abilities you should pray that your opponent won't use against you, since you are extra vulnerable against them. Stats are drawn from the following pool:

Offensive:

Uppercut - I'll strike you into the air
Speed- I'll move so fast you won't know what's coming
Roundhouse Kick - I’ll Kick you so hard you will fly backwards
Jump Kick - I'll strike at you from a distance


Defenses:

Block - I will block your strikes before they hit me
Dodge - You won't hit me since I'll jump out of the way
Stealth - You won't strike me since you don't know where I am
Sweep Kick - I'll sweep your legs to keep you at a distance


Techniques:

Transfiguration- I can bend the physics of this world
Divine - My god will see me through
Elemental - The elements are at my command
Melee - My honed melee skills will see me through



Abilities: Every character will have a set number of abilities which they can activate before a battle at the cost of a set amount of mana. Abilities are reusable but can only be used once per battle. You may activate all your abilities if you have sufficient mana with the exception that you can only activate one fatality per battle.

Battle Mechanics: When two contestants do battle, I will compare their abilities against their opponent's resistances and weaknesses, and calculate the winner from that. Everything is completely deterministic, and the basic mechanics work like this:

When in a fight each +Ability gives you X points.
If your opponent has -Ability, you get more than X points.
If your opponent has xAbility, you get less than X points.

Any - or x that your opponent will have for which you don't have that ability will simply not count. The exact numbers used for the various cases are hidden for the sake of suspense and uncertainty.

The winner is the one that gets the most total points against the other when all abilities are counted. If both combatants get the same value against each other, the tie will be resolved as follows:
First tie breaker is the number of Potions of Stamina each contestant has brought into battle - whoever has the most potions wins.
If both combatants have the same number of potions, the second tie breaker will be the arena fought on. The contestant that got to pick the arena will win. This means battles can never result in a draw.


Mana: Every contestant starts off with 300 mana. Every morning, each living contestant receives an additional 150 Mana. Mana can change hands during betting, and as spoils after a battle. Mana can also be given freely between contestants.

Mana will be separated into visible mana and actual mana.

The visible mana is the total amount of mana the character has received either through the morning updates, battle spoils or betting. The visable mana for all contestants will be listed in the first post.

The actual mana will be how much is left after expenditure on items, gifting to other players etc. This will be hidden and reported via PM when it changes (apart from when it changes from the income every morning).

IMPORTANT: A contestant who is scheduled to do battle may not give any of their mana away.

Betting: All battles will be open for betting on who will win. The odds for the bet will be directly determined by how many bet on each combatant, so no new mana is generated into the overall pool. The minimum bet will be 50 mana. You may change your bet up to the fight actually happens, with one exception - you can never withdraw mana that has been bet. Once you've given a sum to the bookkeepers, you won't get it back. You can add more mana, and you can change who to bet it on, but you can't withdraw it.

As an example, assume 1000 mana is bet on contestant A to win over B, and 2000 mana is bet on B to win over A. If A were to defeat B, someone betting 100 mana on A would receive that mana back plus another 200 mana from the pool. If instead B were to defeat A, someone betting 100 mana on B would receive that mana back plus another 50 mana from the pool. Fractions of mana disappear into nothing.

IMPORTANT: A contestant may not bet on themselves to win.

Battle spoils: When a contestant dies in battle, their mana will be split between the contestant that defeated them and their remaining team members. The mana to be distributed includes the actual mana total, plus the total amount of mana that the contestant has spent on items and on abilities during fight. In other words, all items and Mana used in battle are refunded upon death and added to the mana to be distributed. Of the total mana, one halfwill be given to the victor of the battle where the contestant was killed, and the remaining half will be distributed equally among the living team members of the contestant. Any fractions magically disappear. If the killed contestant was the last of their team, all the spoils will befall the victor.

Items & Power ups: There is an assortment of power ups and item that you can buy using your mana that you gain:


Power ups:
Power ups is a generic term for items that give you an extra ability to use in fights. For instance you may purchase a Stealth power up to give you +Stealth, or a Speed powerup to get +Speed. What you must pick is the ability you want the equipment to give you.

The cost of power up’s are progressive. The first power up you purchase will cost 400 mana. For every other power up you purchase thereafter, the cost will increase by another 400 mana. In other words the second powerup you purchase will cost 800 mana, the third will cost 1200 mana, etc. Which ability you purchase is irrelevant for the cost, the only thing that matters is how many you buy.

Power ups can be refunded for the same cost you bought them. However this will not decrease the cost of the next power up you buy! In other words, if you purchase two power ups for 400 and 800 mana respectively, and you then decide to refund the power up to get 400 mana back, your next piece of equipment will still cost 1200 mana.

Potions:


Potion of Stamina: 200 mana. These potions are used in battle to give you an extra one-time boost if needed. For the purposes of game mechanics, they will serve as tie breakers in the case the matched stats end up in a draw. See more in the section on battle resolution.


Scanners:
Scanners are items that you use to assess other contestants, to figure out their abilities, weaknesses and resistances. These items come in various strengths, where one of lower strength can be upgraded to one of the next highest strength. Each scanner, regardless of strength, can be used once per day/night cycle to get information on one opponent.

Scanner, MkI: 600 mana. Gives you 1 random Weaknesses/Resistances from the targeted contestant.

Scanner, MkII: +600 mana. Gives you 3 random Weaknesses/Resistances from the targeted contestant.

Scanner, MkIII: +600 mana. Gives you 5 random Weaknesses/Resistances/Abilities from the targeted contestant.

Scanner, MkIV: +600 mana. Gives you 7 random Weaknesses/Resistances/Abilities from the targeted contestant.

Scanner, MkV: +600 mana. Gives you 9 random Weaknesses/Resistances/Abilities from the targeted contestant.

Prophetic items:
There are two kinds of prophetic items, i.e. items to figure out if a character is a mark or not.

Token of Divination: 1500 mana. This is a one-use item that reveals whether a targeted contestant is a mark or not.

Crystal Ball: 1500 mana. This item can be used once per day/night cycle on one contestant to reveal randomly one of their special abilities.



IMPORTANT: Items purchased are personal, and cannot be transferred to another contestant. Also no items are refundable, with the special exception of Power ups as discussed above.

Special Powers: Every character has a unique power. These are not incredibly high-powered, to not disrupt the balance of the game, they are just something that makes your character unique and could give you an edge if the circumstances are right. Note that it is very hard for someone else to figure out your special power unless you tell actually them, so it's a good idea to keep it to yourself.

Midday, Day 10

As the tenth day reached its apex, no one expected anything out of the ordinary. It was yet another day, just building up for the evening fight, nothing special. The Lizardman showed no emotions as he quickly made his way towards the isolation section, but the Luridus took his fair time. Still obviously weak from his recent close run with death at the hands of the Prior, he had to use his staff to support him as he slowly followed his reptilian opponent. Halfway across the field he suddenly stopped as if to catch his breath, to the dismay of the officials that were eager to go get some lunch. The Luridus would not be rushed though.

"There is something I need to first. Bear with me."

The Priest bowed his head, grasped his staff with both hands, and started humming. The bronze sun symbol at the tip of his staff started glowing, to rival the light of his patron above, the holy light of Lugus channelled by the will of the Luridus. With a brilliant flash the bronze sun lit up the entire arena, before focusing all its light in a single direction. The Ogre had to shield his eyes with his massive arm as the rays hit him full force, but he could not shield what came next. Above the head of the tall brute, clearly visible to all by virtue of the holy light, was a spinning emblem of a gold coin engraved with a V. Suddenly this midday didn't seem so ordinary after all.

The Ogre is a Mark!

The light abated, and the Luridus smiled, before turning to follow the officials into isolation, leaving the Ogre to face the stares of the entire Theatre.

On the voting side, three contestants practically shared the first place, having three votes each. All the Paladin's votes came from team leaders giving him the top position. The officials had to dig long and hard in Perpentach's convoluted rules, but finally announced that the Shaman edged out the Frost Speaker due to having received a team leader vote before the Frost Speaker did. On the betting side there was little to add, except that Perpentach would surely not be pleased if matters persisted.

It was dark and not quite sunrise. Shao Kahn was not a happy man. Something strange was happening to his Tournament. Unbreakable laws that had been put in place by the Gods were being bent. It seems some of the Gods have other plans for his Outworld. Once you throw in the fact his once loyal servants are competing in the tournament, he couldn’t help but worry. Take that Shang Tsung for example teaming up with Liu Kang of all people. Shao Kahn shook his head, he was still very powerful and he would personal be involved in the tournament as will his trusted minion Kintaro.

Shao Kahn was standing on his balcony of his fortress watching the 4 teams arrive. There were several strong fighters there including the meddling thunder god Raiden. Shao Kahn sneered, but was still worried about how the rules could have changed. He had lots of questions. ‘Why are there going to be two battles per day. Who was this secret faction that got to decide these some of these battles and which god was behind this mischief.’ But the answers would only be found in the battle area.

Now that the teams to contest this Mortal Kombat had arrived, it was time to announce to them that the normal format had changed.



Rules
Basic setup: A number of characters, each with their own special set of abilities, participate in a grand tournament. Every morning and every evening, two contestants face off to the death in the arena. During the day, all participants vote on which two contestants to do battle the next morning. During the night, the Mark, a hidden faction among the contestants, decide who should do battle the upcoming evening. The goal for the Mark is to outnumber the non-Mark. The goal for the non-Mark ("innocents") is to root out the Mark and be the last remaining team. The game ends when either side achieves its goal.

Time and Voting: The game will be divided into cycles consisting of a day and a night. Each day and night will last 48 hours, RL time. There will be four updates per cycle - morning, midday, evening, and midnight.

IMPORTANT: All "effects" will happen at the time of an update. This includes things like results from using scanners and other items - they will not be reported as soon as I see them, but rather at the next update. This is both to simplify my running the game, but also to make it fairer on people in time zones other than my own.

During the day - lasting from the morning post to the evening post - all contestants will vote on which two contestants should do battle next morning. Each contestant receives two votes, each of which can be for a contestant to do battle. The two votes cannot be placed on characters of the same team (and in particular not on the same character). The two contestants with the most votes to their name at the end of the day will do battle next morning. The contestant with the second most votes will have the advantage of choosing the arena (see battle resolution below).

During the night, the Mark will pick two contestants to do battle the following evening.

IMPORTANT: The two contestants that are chosen to fight will be taken into isolation by the contest officials at midday or midnight respectively, so that they may prepare for the battle. While in isolation they cannot purchase items, and no items or other effects may be used on them. Thus, all such things must be done before the first 24 hours of the day/night has passed. No changes can be made during the following 24 hours.

During the day, all contestants may also bet on the outcome of the battle about to happen the coming evening. During the night, the bet will be on the outcome of the battle about to happen the coming morning. Note in particular that this means that there is no ban on talking in the thread during the night.

Teams: The contest is conducted in four teams with three members each and a special team containing two members. Teams are important for two primary reasons. First, each living team member gets 100 mana every morning, increasing the total mana owned by the team. The longer they stay alive, the more mana they will bring in, up to the point when (if) they die. At that half of their mana will be redistributed among the other team members (see battle spoils below). Second, If you are not a mark, if you team is the only remaining team then you are victorious.

Team leaders have an extra 0.1 votes, allowing them to break (or create) voting ties. If a team leader is chosen to fight, they may name a successor to lead the team in case they lose. If no successor is named and the team leader is killed, a new vote is put forth among the remaining team members.

Stats: A character will typically start with 3 attacks, 3 resistances and 3 weaknesses. Your abilities (+) are your fighting style, the skills you use to bring your opponent down. Your resistances (x) are the abilities you for various reasons have no fear to face, because you know how to handle an opponent that uses them. Your weaknesses (-) on the other hand are the abilities you should pray that your opponent won't use against you, since you are extra vulnerable against them. Stats are drawn from the following pool:

Offensive:

Uppercut - I'll strike you into the air
Speed- I'll move so fast you won't know what's coming
Roundhouse Kick - I’ll Kick you so hard you will fly backwards
Jump Kick - I'll strike at you from a distance


Defenses:

Block - I will block your strikes before they hit me
Dodge - You won't hit me since I'll jump out of the way
Stealth - You won't strike me since you don't know where I am
Sweep Kick - I'll sweep your legs to keep you at a distance


Techniques:

Transfiguration- I can bend the physics of this world
Divine - My god will see me through
Elemental - The elements are at my command
Melee - My honed melee skills will see me through



Abilities: Every character will have a set number of abilities which they can activate before a battle at the cost of a set amount of mana. Abilities are reusable but can only be used once per battle. You may activate all your abilities if you have sufficient mana with the exception that you can only activate one fatality per battle.

Battle Mechanics: When two contestants do battle, I will compare their abilities against their opponent's resistances and weaknesses, and calculate the winner from that. Everything is completely deterministic, and the basic mechanics work like this:

When in a fight each +Ability gives you X points.
If your opponent has -Ability, you get more than X points.
If your opponent has xAbility, you get less than X points.

Any - or x that your opponent will have for which you don't have that ability will simply not count. The exact numbers used for the various cases are hidden for the sake of suspense and uncertainty.

The winner is the one that gets the most total points against the other when all abilities are counted. If both combatants get the same value against each other, the tie will be resolved as follows:
First tie breaker is the number of Potions of Stamina each contestant has brought into battle - whoever has the most potions wins.
If both combatants have the same number of potions, the second tie breaker will be the arena fought on. The contestant that got to pick the arena will win. This means battles can never result in a draw.


Mana: Every contestant starts off with 300 mana. Every morning, each living contestant receives an additional 100 Mana. Mana can change hands during betting, and as spoils after a battle. Mana can also be given freely between contestants.

Mana will be separated into visible mana and actual mana.

The visible mana is the total amount of mana the character has received either through the morning updates, battle spoils or betting. The visable mana for all contestants will be listed in the first post.

The actual mana will be hoe much is left after expenditure on items, gifting to other playes etc. This will be hidden and reported via PM when it changes (apart from when it changes from the income every morning).

IMPORTANT: A contestant who is scheduled to do battle may not give any of their mana away.

Betting: All battles will be open for betting on who will win. The odds for the bet will be directly determined by how many bet on each combatant, so no new mana is generated into the overall pool. The minimum bet will be 50 mana. You may change your bet up to the fight actually happens, with one exception - you can never withdraw mana that has been bet. Once you've given a sum to the bookkeepers, you won't get it back. You can add more mana, and you can change who to bet it on, but you can't withdraw it.

As an example, assume 1000 mana is bet on contestant A to win over B, and 2000 mana is bet on B to win over A. If A were to defeat B, someone betting 100 mana on A would receive that mana back plus another 200 mana from the pool. If instead B were to defeat A, someone betting 100 mana on B would receive that mana back plus another 50 mana from the pool. Fractions of mana disappear into nothing.

IMPORTANT: A contestant may not bet on themselves to win.

Battle spoils: When a contestant dies in battle, their mana will be split between the contestant that defeated them and their remaining team members. The mana to be distributed includes the actual mana total, plus the total amount of mana that the contestant has spent on items. In other words, all items are refunded upon death and added to the mana to be distributed. Of the total mana, one halfwill be given to the victor of the battle where the contestant was killed, and the remaining half will be distributed equally among the living team members of the contestant. Any fractions magically disappear. If the killed contestant was the last of their team, all the spoils will befall the victor.

Items & Power ups: There is an assortment of power ups and item that you can buy using your mana that you gain:


Power ups:
Power ups is a generic term for items that give you an extra ability to use in fights. For instance you may purchase a Stealth power up to give you +Stealth, or a Speed powerup to get +Speed. What you must pick is the ability you want the equipment to give you.

The cost of power up’s are progressive. The first power up you purchase will cost 400 mana. For every other power up you purchase thereafter, the cost will increase by another 400 mana. In other words the second powerup you purchase will cost 800 mana, the third will cost 1200 mana, etc. Which ability you purchase is irrelevant for the cost, the only thing that matters is how many you buy.

Power ups can be refunded for the same cost you bought them. However this will not decrease the cost of the next power up you buy! In other words, if you purchase two power ups for 400 and 800 mana respectively, and you then decide to refund the power up to get 400 mana back, your next piece of equipment will still cost 1200 mana.

Potions:


Potion of Stamina: 200 mana. These potions are used in battle to give you an extra one-time boost if needed. For the purposes of game mechanics, they will serve as tie breakers in the case the matched stats end up in a draw. See more in the section on battle resolution.


Scanners:
Scanners are items that you use to assess other contestants, to figure out their abilities, weaknesses and resistances. These items come in various strengths, where one of lower strength can be upgraded to one of the next highest strength. Each scanner, regardless of strength, can be used once per day/night cycle to get information on one opponent.

Scanner, MkI: 800 mana. Gives you 1 random Weaknesses/Resistances from the targeted contestant.

Scanner, MkII: +800 mana. Gives you 3 random Weaknesses/Resistances from the targeted contestant.

Scanner, MkIII: +800 mana. Gives you 5 random Weaknesses/Resistances/Abilities from the targeted contestant.

Scanner, MkIV: +800 mana. Gives you 7 random Weaknesses/Resistances/Abilities from the targeted contestant.

Scanner, MkV: +800 mana. Gives you 9 random Weaknesses/Resistances/Abilities from the targeted contestant.

Prophetic items:
There are two kinds of prophetic items, i.e. items to figure out if a character is a mark or not.

Token of Divination: 1500 mana. This is a one-use item that reveals whether a targeted contestant is a mark or not.

Crystal Ball: 1500 mana. This item can be used once per day/night cycle on one contestant to reveal randomly one of their special abilities.



IMPORTANT: Items purchased are personal, and cannot be transferred to another contestant. Also no items are refundable, with the special exception of Power ups as discussed above.

Special Powers: Every character has a unique power. These are not incredibly high-powered, to not disrupt the balance of the game, they are just something that makes your character unique and could give you an edge if the circumstances are right. Note that it is very hard for someone else to figure out your special power unless you tell actually them, so it's a good idea to keep it to yourself.


And once the rules had been read out, the sun blazed over the horizon and the tournament had officially begun.

”Enough” Shouted Shao Kahn “I don’t care what marks are or how many there are, just that we should find them and kill them.” The tournament had got off to an interesting start. It was quite clear from contestants that everybody but Shao Kahn wanted to see two ninja battle it out and so it was that Reptile and Sub-Zero were being singled out. Still, everybody was sizing each other up and Kung Lao was quite disappointed that Raiden didn’t bring back any diet coke for the team. Nevertheless, everybody was looking forward to the evening when the contestants for the morning battle will be finalised.

Okay, this gives me a better picture of whats going on. I have a question about this though, what happens when one of these two teams of Marks dies? Does the other team control who both of the contestants are? I'm assuming that the two teams of marks only know about the people on their team and not the other, considering it would make no sense otherwise. Are the two teams of Marks trying to kill each other or are they working together?

Shao Kahn was no mere Mortal, He was a powerful sorcerer much more than even Shang Tsung. He had long since bent the gods of Outworld to his will and now that it was night, it was the appropriate time to summon them. A shadowy creature wearing a cloak appeared inside Kahn’s Throne room. “You called My Lord” the creature croaked. Kahn strolled down from his throne and grabbed the creature. “What is going on with my tournament?” yelled Kahn. The creature gasped for breath and gasped “Yeah... Ab.. About that, a... a... a couple of the other gods got together and they... they decided to try and tip things a bit more in your favour by altering the rules..” The creature stopped talking as he started to turn blue from Kahn’s grip. Kahn grew more angry, and threw the creature to the ground and yelled in fury “What about these Marks that decide who is in the evening battle?” The creature looked at Kahn in fear, “I am not sure my lord, they are working for some of the other gods, and you will have to ask them” Kahn finally lost his patience and grabbed the creature by the throat and twisted its head right round so that you could hear the vertebrae break. The creature slumped and dropped to floor. Kahn stared at the lifeless body.
Kahn spoke to the body, “you tell the other gods that I want to meet!” The body of the creature suddenly stood up. Its limp head was still hanging at its side. “As you wish my lord” the creature whispered as it disappeared into smoke and Kahn went out to address the combatants.

“It seems you have picked out the combatants for the morning fight.” Kahn addressed everybody. “The combatants will be Reptile and Subzero!“ The crowd roared in approval. Kahn continued, “the combatants will be led into isolation at midnight to prepare for the morning fight and Reptile will have the arena advantage"

Johnny Cage congratulated Reptile by embracing him “Well done, I will be hoping for your victory!” A pained and watery look appeared in Reptiles eyes as Johnny Cage let go his embrace and walked away. Reptile leapt forward but an icy feeling swept over him and he turned around to see his opponent for the upcoming battle standing stoically in front of him with cold eyes. There was no doubt from anybody that if looks could kill both reptile and Zub zero would have killed each other several times over.

From the OP:
Mana will be separated into visible mana and actual mana.

The visible mana is the total amount of mana the character has received either through the morning updates, battle spoils or betting. The visable mana for all contestants will be listed in the first post.

The actual mana will be hoe much is left after expenditure on items, gifting to other playes etc. This will be hidden and reported via PM when it changes (apart from when it changes from the income every morning).

It was the dead of the night, Shao Kahn as in a foul mood. He had sent a messenger to see if they could find out more about the gods that were trying to ruin his tournament. He couldn’t be bothered waiting up so went to bed and missed the moment when both Reptile and Subzero were taken away into isolation to prepare for the morning fight. Everybody had gathered and wished them luck. It was a load of bull of course, they were just really excited about seeing a fight and hopefully some blood in the morning.

Yes, the odds were out. Don't ask me why but the betting places here in NZ always include your original bet in the odds. so I added an extra 1 to the odds to signify the original bet. It is a way of making it look like you win more. :beam:

For example here in NZ they would show the odds for this match for Reptile at $2.75 an Subzero at $1.57.

Also an insult in character is acceptable, but any out of character are not. :whip: Choxorn was clever enough to take into account the extra 1 and naturally subtracted it when completing the equation. :juggle2:

Over here, it worked out as "For: Against" in the odds.

So for every candidate, there is a different number.

In the case here it would be:

Subzero - 1.85:1
Reptile - 1:1.75

This means:
For every 1.85 you bet, you get 1 mana reward.
For every 1 you bet, you get 1.75 reward.

Though when it is two like this, they usually put one number for sub and other for Reptile, as the minimum number has to be one, it would be "1.75:1"

Some bookies don't use decimal points, so they would put it as 7:4

As for my ATSG comment, I thought he was a troll and for whatever reason, chose this thread to attempt to troll in, as it was the first time I have seen him. The comment was in reference to ATPG's avatar, as when I first read the post, I thought it was ATPG.

Yeah I kinda had to address that fact in the player backgrounds. But in actual fact Sub Zero died in MK. The Sub Zero in MK II is the Sub Zero's younger Brother. Scorpion actually realizes that he is not the same ruthless killer that killed him and makes a vow to protect Sub Zero.

Some of the other teams are weird too. like Jax being with baraka and Reptile :S and Liu Kang and Shang Tsung in the same team :D

Morning 1





The sun rose over the hill streaming too where a crowd had assembled. The crowd let out a yell for a battle was soon to begin. They watched as two ninjas strolled out from isolation one was dressed in green and the other in blue. The two fighters made their way to the arena which was chosen by reptile, it was an acid pit called the deadpool. The fighters stuck there poses waiting for the signal to start. Shao Kahn Stood up and declared “Fight”

Sub Zero slowly walked calmly towards his opponent but Reptile quickly pulled out a smoke bomb

SubZero was no slouch through and quickly sent out a beam or ice which caught Reptile in a block of ice.

With Reptile trapped in the ice, Sub Zero made his way over and couched down and let rip a might uppercut.

Reptile landed with a thud but quickly leapt to his feet ninja style. He then saw Zubzero closeing down on him but at the last second he let out force ball.

The force ball exploded sending Sub Zero up into the air and on his way down Reptile followed up his force ball with a mighty uppercut of his own which sent Subzero sky high.

Sub Zero was visably wounded but he was not going to give in so easily. Reptile jumped towards him but he quickly froze the ground. Upon landing Reptile quickly lost his footing which Sub Zero took advantage of by a swift round house kick.

It was Reptiles turn to take heavy damage; he coughed up some blood as he stood up. However there was enough range to try a smoke bomb again and with a puff of smoke vanished. Sub Zero sent an ice ball to where Reptile was to no avail. He was caught in the face by a swift punch which dazed him. The next second he found himself launched into the air and Shao Kahn called out “Finish Him”

However there was no need as Sub Zero’s Body fell into the acid. Reptile appeared visible again just as Sub Zero’s melted corpse appeared bobbing up in down in the acid.

Reptile Wins !!! And receives his share of the battle spoils, 150 mana. Sub Zero’s teammates receives 75 Mana each.

Scorpion will have the Arena choice.” Shao Kahn continued, “And so we will have to choose the next contestants for tomorrow’s battle.”

I just went through Beskar's small .org mafia game. The setup was very similar - 4 teams of 4, each team has a hidden scum in it. The goal of each team is eliminate the scum + have more members than the other teams. There were no night phases, only day lynches just like here. The result was a total devastating victory for the mafia because they were able to have access to all information and also coordinate the lynches in their teams.

The town screwed up by keeping quiet in both the quicktopics (to avoid giving info to scum) and in the main thread (to avoid helping other teams). Every single townie had a power role, but nobody coordinated their efforts. You can see how this is very similar to this mafia game setup.

The only chance town has to find the mark in this game is to pool their mana to purchase tokens of Divination. The odds of finding mark are quite high. If there is a mark on each team then it would take at most 2 investigations to clear a team and find the scum. I'm currently the only confirmed innocent (Shao Khan). I'm more than willing to organize the effort, but we'll need support from everyone. Sprig upped the mana bonus everyone got every morning, so here is a good use for it.

The token costs 1500 mana, and there are 13 of us remaining. I would ask everyone to please send me 116 mana. This will alow the purchase of one token. I pledge to use it for an investigation with completely transparent results. The target of the investigation will be chosen by voting just like the battles, however it makes most sense to target subsequent investigations at the same team. This way the mark can't delay finding the targets, and we're pretty much guaranteed a mark every second investigation.

The second benefit is that mark will undoubtedly pool their mana for battles. They have a small 4 person pool, so draining 100 mana from each of them will make a big difference on that front. Mana that could have gone to kill townies will instead be used to find mark. For those of you concerned that it will prevent you from buying a power, please consider that it will delay everyone's progress equally. You may be very close to buying that 400 mana first upgrade, but if you're not fighting this round, then it doesn't matter, and the 800 one isn't coming anytime soon anyway.

If this effort fails to collect the requisite 1500 mana, I will refund all mana back to its senders. I believe mark will not be able to take me down anytime soon. I have high stats and a few other tricks up my sleeve.

The second benefit is that mark will undoubtedly pool their mana for battles. They have a small 4 person pool, so draining 100 mana from each of them will make a big difference on that front. Mana that could have gone to kill townies will instead be used to find mark. For those of you concerned that it will prevent you from buying a power, please consider that it will delay everyone's progress equally. You may be very close to buying that 400 mana first upgrade, but if you're not fighting this round, then it doesn't matter, and the 800 one isn't coming anytime soon anyway.

If this effort fails to collect the requisite 1500 mana, I will refund all mana back to its senders. I believe mark will not be able to take me down anytime soon. I have high stats and a few other tricks up my sleeve.

Once you are in isolation from everybody else, you can not do the above actions nor can anyone target you with their special abilities. It is at this stage where you should (using the mana you have left/gained) select which abilities you would like to activate for the upcoming fight.

I'd like to see Mileena (JH) face Kung Lao (ATPG) next round.

Here is my reasoning: one out of SubZero/Scorpion/Mileena was a mark. I don't think SZ was a mark solely based on the fact that Marks want to avoid fighting, and with a 4 person voting block, they could've pushed for someone else on D1. Same goes for Scorpion on N1. Marks would have chosen 2 nonmarks to fight IMO. This leaves Mileena. Could be some reverse psychology employed by marks, but I'm betting that they dont have to cojones to try that on D1.

ATPG vote is just a pressure vote to get him on board with my plan. He's a very bright guy, and "I can't afford it" is a dumb excuse, so I think he's playing dumb to avoid contributing.

Seriously Yaropolk, what do you want me to do? I lost a teammate last round and have one fighting this round, if he loses I am on my own and an easy target. My only concern this round is helping my partner win and I am happy to use most of my mana doing so, if he wins I can get a good bit back, if he loses I'm as good as dead so it doesn't matter.

Kung Lao is right on almost all counts. The biggest being that we can not fully trust you. Sure the writeup says you don't know anything, but have you been investigated and cleared? No. It could be a gambit somehow.... I just can not be sure 100%


Gekkamir has a reason for not wanting to hand over his mana. Strong arming him and making sure no one has any mana to defend themselves when they get in a fight is not winning you any support.

Possibly, but 1500 is a lot of money, you could spend all that 1500 to investigate someone and find there innocent, which is an awful waste of money and fairly likely to happen. Players don't want to be bankupt, I don't see enough people co-operating with this.

I will not be sending my mana. Now, I know this is a different game, but I do have experience with snakes and foxes, while you do not. In my experience, the mark distribution is random-- there are teams with no mark and there are teams with more than one mark. I also have a problem with "confirmed innocents" as I believe there are no such things. Thirdly, we are not only competeing against the mark, but each other. There is no "innocent win". There is "Mark win" or "Johnny Cage win" or "Reptile win". And that win is based off mana so forgive me for not wanting to give you mine.

Plus I want my mana for my own purposes, such as surviving.

I'm not trying to play stupid, I'm honestly asking why that would solve anything? You're talking about having your team broken up, but now you're sending another teammate up to fight? I'm not being a :daisy: to you, but that doesn't make sense to me, if you could honestly explain it with a good reason I'd go for it.

Its all do to my razor sharp wits. :yes: Just need too estimate what your opponents stats are, and counter them.

Take Cage for example. Obviously his strengths are in his kicks, with at least one of his specials being a "Shadow Kick" (double damage Sweep kick? Maybe, or something like that Just guessing here you understand.) So Strengths probably include Roundhouse kick.... Perhaps Melee as well, and sweep kick? Can't be 100% with cage. Resistances probably include divine, maybe roundhouse or sweep kick. Weaknesses? I want to say Transfiguration, Stealth, and Uppercut (maybe not uppercut. One of his specials probably allows him to gain uppercut as an attack).

Then I take my rough outline and go over my own assets. Keeping in mind that most of the above will probably be BS and have no bearing on the fight.

Sub Zero was far easier, attack had to be elemental (his name is subzero for goodness sake) so I based things around that. :beam:

Basically I won because I was completely willing to make random guesses about my opponents skills.

Ok basically, in response to Choxorn

Its in his best interests to give his mana to Shan Khao or whoever whilst he is in a mindset to do so.

This is because your team mates (ATPG & Split) won't do it, should choxorn's money be split between them, meaning he could try and find a mark quicker and I have less opposition as he couldn't spend on himself for the fight :juggle2:
