What is the largest population you got from a city? I'm asking becouse i was staggered when i saw in my current campaign that Seleucia is just about to hit 50.000, even though i have the taxes on very high.... It's my record:egypt:. In a few turns i will have a 50.000 city... I'm thinking of lowering the taxes to see how much it can rise

I've never heard of anything that size. If you can prove it with a screenie, I'll congratulate you.

Won't this cause riots?

What do you mean? Why?

Yes, as population increases squalor increases and after a certain time you wont be able to build any more anti-squalor upgrades.... the good news is that if you move your army out, let it rebel, then retake it you can make a mint out of decimating such a huge population !!

cheers,

Nah, i won't do that.

There are only a few units in the city, and the order is at 140% on very high taxes. I guess i just have a superb governor. I will just leave the taxes as they are... Once the Governor dies, i will probably have to lower the taxes and add a few units, but that's it:2thumbsup:

So did anyone have such a huge population?

Max pop I've ever been able to attain in Roman homeland territories with decent governors is about 36k - and that happened once. Usually I'm more likely to obtain about 30k.

And good on you for not forcing your population to revolt so you can massacre them. I have always hated that exploit. Now......should they revolt in spite of me trying to keep them happy, it's game on.

Good luck to you when that governor dies.

Well, i have more than enough money as it is, i'm under 200k just becouse i don't want to fight so many battles so i bribe small armies instaed of fighting them, + i also give money to my allies to fight of their enemies.

I just bribed a 7 star crippled Seleucid general:laugh4:
He and his entire army of gold chevroned units, about half a stack came at 42.000 mnai..:dizzy2: The most currupt guy i've ever seen:laugh4:.

He's great now at auto-calc though:laugh4:. And his still only 35, so he will probably be known as the great defender of Mesopotamia:yes:

Got a bit of topic here:shame: sorry:beam:

I remember having cities of 60000+ in vanilla RTW.

In my current KH game Nikaia has a population of around 42000 but this is with me conciously trying to keep city populations low (no granary building once a city reaches huge size, only the first level of farms built) and seems to be the result of a particularly effective governor. Generally I like to have my cities between 20-30k to keep the unrest under control without having to rely on governors.

I had either 49.500 or 54.500 on Sardinia of all places in the same campaign that was the only to ever see Marian units. Then the Govenor died. City was still happy under the new guy, but they dropped like flies no matter what I did and eventually levelled out in mid-30Ks Until that my max ever was about 48K.

I've had Corsica at ~45000 before. Sardinia and Corsica always grow crazy fast in my games.

how much money are we looking at for minting a population that size?

I never checked, I was rich anyway.

Oh... if this 40k is hit and I lack decent governors (and didn't want to massacre my own, nice subject, except when it was Barbaropolis), I usually get add_population -10000, to keep them under control.

Are we talking population with or without a govenor?

I'll try upload a screen shot (I think I got Rome relatively high) but I am not the best with computers, its just print screen + throw into paint + save + then upload on forums right? :sweatdrop:

Or should I post the image as a link?

Ugh, though I do not have photo evidence becuase I kept forgetting to paste the photo after I shut down the game, I got Gerrha up to 45,000 population.

Yes, Gerrha, a desert backwater. Had to do with an outstanding governer who added a whopping 6, yes 6% to population growth. Of course when he died, the poor city was overcome with squalor and revolted from me within two turns.

Why do you need to paste the photo? You can find the screenshots in tgas folder.

That's one cool AI Rome expansion you got in 129bc. Anyway, Ive just reinstalled the game not long. I may have had it in he past but I'm not sure because I don't always build everything healthwise. Grats. Ill try to do the same to Baktra!

Most of my homeland cities are over 45k. I'm pretty sure Rome would be over 50k but I've been pumping out troops from there pretty regularly.

The first screenie the guy was using Parthia, although it looked to me like it was recoloured to be the same as the Saka. In the second screenshot he was using Rome; which is probably why Rome was doing somehting you had never seen before.

Look to the bottom right of the screen shot and you will see the faction symbol that is being used.

EDIT: Also keep in mind that the first screen shot was taken in 129BC. Thats a long way into the game. Surely after that many turns a single Naval invasion would have taken place.

Actually it's not the same color. At the time i didn't have a border with them, and i decided to change my colors, and only after they conquered some lands from baktria i saw that they kinda look similar, but definetly not the same, so i will keep it for a while.

Also rome doesn't do much on its own. I always give them money, and move their armies around, hoping they would become a superpower as they were in RL. They did however sen reinforcments to greece and africa once they got a foothold.

I think in the last thread someone posted 70K as his record. You can only get it in certain cities around the Nile or Athens or something.

Those are kept by a governor with a lot of popgrowth+ traits and - to unrest, etc. I had Rome reach more than 50k on more than a few occasions.
Funniest thing that when he dies, if you have no one in the city, it usually starts rioting, and then extraordinary numbers of people are killed. You start wondering how one season's riots could have killed more people than your entire Gallic campaign, for example:sweatdrop:

Brave Brave Sir Robin

Well I think the Nika riots in Constantinople would be a great example of how this might occur.

it's even more hilarious when a gov dies, and your capital rebels due to the huge number of people and unrest...
(In vanilla, rebel+slaughter is a viable source of income >_>)
