View Full Version : Crashing getting more frequent

I had a Makedonian game that lasted until about 216, then it started crashing nonstop. It seems to have randomly fixed itself, and I still have the save, but I've moved onto a Getai game. So, I get to like 263 or something like that. The game started crashing when I ended the turn. It was on the roman turn, so with process_cq and add_population, I was able to avoid the crash. The Roman's decided it would be a good idea to leave Patavium without a garrison, so it was rebelling and causing a crash.
My question is, why does my game crash so often now? I've never experienced any crashes, besides the random ending battle ones, until my Makedonian game. Then I start a new game, and I almost immediately get the same type of crash, less than ten years into the game. I know it's due to the rebellion, but it seems more than coincidental that it'd happen the same way in two consecutive saved games. In my makedonian game, the KH, Eperios and the Arvernii were wiped out, and I guess that can cause crashes when a town tries to rebel to one of those factions, but on my getai game, I was less than ten years in. No one was wiped out. It doesn't make any sense to me.

1: Did you apply all fixes?
2: Did you change any files of EB?
3: Did you activate the script every time?
In the frequent issues are way listed to handle rebellions.
Personally, after I changed to ALEX I had nearly zero CTD's in my games.

No after battle CTD's with the Alex exe? Really?
I would buy it just for that. EB is an incredible game, but the constant after battle CTD's have made it just above medicore for me. Though I keep coming back to it...

I applied all of the fixes and I have Force Diplomacy and the phalanx mod, but I haven't changed any other files. Yes, I activate the script every time.
I switched to BI the same day I made this thread, and it seems to work better. I notice it runs better and it hasn't crashed yet. I don't have Alex though.

@fallen
RTW has a bug, something with memory flow, you just wait after a battle for at least 20 seconds before returning to campaign map, this will decrease the chance of a CTD dramatically (see the frequent issues).
I said nearly zero...some things even with ALEX don't work as they should (and as CA maybe inteded to work)...:no:
@Unintended BM
BI is more developed than RTW, as is it ALEX, so I wish you no more CTD with your configuration!!
In the sub-mod area there is a BI-mini-mod, maybe you want try that?

I'll look into it, but so far, this set up is working just fine. I just recently got BI, and I reinstalled everything, so I imagine whatever was wrong with my RTW game is no longer present, seeing as my BI is a clean install with nothing on it.

Let me know if BI gets rid of the after battle crashing.
And I wait beyond 20 seconds after every battle before pressing the little check btw. I wish I had a 64 bit system then I could load it up with 8 gigs of ram. As it is, I have 4 gigs in a 32 bit system.

I still wait a while after battles, and I haven't had one yet.

I never have crashes after a battle, but lots of them during ai turns.
As these usually come from revolts I edited export_descr_buildings
to give bonuses to the ai to prevent it's towns from revolting.
Heavily unbalances the game but atleast it runs.

the only problem for me is when it crashes to the desktop after a battle and i tried the "SOLUTIONS" by waiting 20 secs until the music stops or to change the sound from the options but nothing....
i have
win xp 32bit sp3

Interesting. I have never experienced a crash on an AI turn. But I also give a massive happiness bonus via the EBD to the governor's buildings for every faction except the one I am playing.
However I played two campaigns before that and never suffered a crash on an AI turn too.

Yeah, I hadn't experienced an AI turn crash until I made this thread. Still good on my BI game though. No crashes yet.
