Eb via steam

Hello all.

Well its good to be back from a few months of break. Ive decided to play EB via steam this time around, but im having a bit of a problem getting it to work.

I downloaded EB into the correct steam folder and changed the lauch to -mod:eb -show_err -nm -noalexander but at the loading screen this pops up

"Failed to read censored word dictionary file: eb/data//chat_filter.san"

any ideas as to what went wrong?

I don't know what's wrong. It probably isn't the launch settings though.

Seems like you are trying to install it to Alexander folder. You need to copy chat_filter.san from alexander/data to eb/data. Also be warned that if you don't change export_descr_character_traits.txt all your generals will be immortal.

The easiest way is to use the download found here: http://www.zshare.net/download/51697518abdc7e31/ then copy the files over into your EB folder. That's how I used the Alex.exe on Steam.

I know exactly what is the problem. I myself have that problem. And no, you have no solution other than DRM-Free (read cracked, ILLEGAL) approach. I advise you HIGHLY, NOT to take that approach, even if there is no other approach.

Here are your options:

As you may have realized already, Steam installs RTW Gold and RTW Alexander in two separate folders, while the original cd's install both in the same folder. This causes a problem only if you wish to run EB using the Alexander engine. Normally, you would've installed EB 1.2 in RTW Gold folder, and copied over the "Alex with EB 1.2 ENGINE ONLY" files that Maksimus has prepared. Here is the problem: you can only play using RTW engine. NOTE: With RTW you may play online with the rest of us, fine, no problem.

If you really with to play with the Alex engine, you will need to install EB NOT in RTW Gold folder but rather in Alexander installation folder. Then when you run your Alexander mod:eb -noalexander shortcut you can play your single player game using the Alexander engine running EB. The only problem? You'll miss out on multiplayer action (as you won't be able to run EB with RTW). Why not? cause in Alexander folder there is only Alexander engine. In Rome folder, Rome engine. Indeed, you can only choose one engine to play with. Unfortunately, this is the case.

It is a problem because you install EB in only ONE folder. If you install in RTW, you can only access RTW engine. For instance, if EB folder is in RTW folder, and you tell Alex to open EB, it won't because there is no EB folder in Alex. It's in RTW...it's cause of the STUPID way Steam separates Alex and RTW Gold folders...so so stupid.

Ok, so i got Eb to work on RTW no problem. Ill figure out Alex later.

Ah okay. Then in that case, this is what one must do.

1) Install EB 1.1 > 1.2 > fixes in Alex folder first.

2) Same as above but in RTW Gold folder.

Why? Because if you do this, you can play single with Alex engine, while still being able to play single AND multi with RTW (of course, only multi is what we are looking for in RTW).

Now I hope that for convenience, we may not even have to do this. We can just install in RTW Gold folder, and then simply copy the EB folder from Gold to Alex folder, so Alex has a copy to work off of. Yeah?

Install into RTW, then copy over and install the Alex.exe mod? Should work, haven't tried though.
