View Full Version : CTD on save game load

My game is crashing whenever I load my latest two save games. The third save game I have is about 70 turns prior, near the beginning of the roman campaign and I really don't feel like losing that much progress, but it works, so it's not every save game that crashes.

I'm running it with R:TW:G 1.5 through steam with EB 1.2 and have used the ShowMeHow script every time I've loaded the game.

Here's my latest quicksave: http://www.axifile.com?6200249
The other save was the autosave.

I fought a battle between the autosave and the quicksave, and took a city. It had no problem loading the campaign map after the battle, I finished up, saved, and quit. Came back today and neither save will load, just crashes to desktop.

Also random 2 bugs not related:
One of the traits (I forget which one) has "-1 unrest (decreases public order)"
Trait for my admiral that describes the season is always 1 season behind. Winter trait in spring, etc... (If you ignore it, it really doesn't hurt anything though)

I loaded your game on RTW/BI/ALX and it crashes every time....

Did you fight that battle in the AI-turn? Did you quicksave before that battle? This can bug a savegame with the RTW engine. IMHO you should get back to the next save, but this time save in different slots, save often and do not save directly before entering a battle. Sp you will be save if anything happens in the future.

Nope, I never save during the AI turns, the save posted is at the end of my turn. My previous save (the autosave) had the same problem, it crashes as well. :/

Also the trait has the unrest wrong, is the wealthy trait.

IMHO this is not related to bugged traits, but if you could give me a detailed description of the bug you found I'll report that.

The RTW engine sometimes corrupts save-games out of nowhere, but mostly something at the end of the session was gone wrong, did RTW crushed as you were playing the last time? Did it took longer/shorter than usual to exit?

As I do not think, anyone can help you with bugged save-game I would start a new campaign. This time with more diverted point of save-games ( for example, I save at the beginning of any year in a different slot, and name it to that year, so in any case (roleplay, gameplay or dur to crashes) I can go back simply to an older point without loosing my entire campaign).

Yeah, the bugged traits probably have nothing to do with it. Well seasons being off may be a symptom of it. As I'm not able to reproduce it. But it was winter and my fleet's admiral's traits said fall. The next turn his movement was reduced and he claimed it was winter, when it was clearly spring.

The second bugged trait is probably just a typo. The wealthy line of traits say "-1 unrest (decreases public order" which are opposites. Very Wealthy is also affected, and if there are any more past that, I'd check that too.

I started a new game yesterday doing just that actually, we'll see how it goes. Do you recommend playing it in BI then? The biggest problem I had with BI was trying to do a bridge battle and all the swimming units would not cross the bridge, no matter what I did, so it kinda turned me off to it.

My personal way of playing EB is with the ALEX-expansion and FD, on this way the AI reacts clever, and remembers its defeats more than in simple RTW. ALEX speeds the game also up, and most users report a more stable gameplay. I use BI just to test uploaded savegames (with Ferromancers installer), so I can't say anything about crossing rivers.

You admiral-bug seems to me as linked to a not-activated campaign-script for at least one turn.

Yeah, seems plausible, but I was fairly certain I always activated it. Oh well.

Really though, if they fix bugs in a later release they really should roll them back into previous versions, it's just negligence on CA's part.

Don't really want to start a new thread for this, but is there any way to move my army to this spot?

It's a valid spot, but the city's graphical area is too big. I've had this problem a lot with this mod, trying to move to some spots is impossible even though they're valid spots.

Try to move the viewpoint (left/right, zooming), then you should be able to move in that spot.

If not, then check with "show_cursorstat" the spot right to the left and count plus 1 to the second value (..hmmm, maybe it was the first value), try and error, keep a save before moving around, just to be safe.

The next turn I didn't get reinforcements when they attacked anyway for some reason, oh well... I barely won that with a heroic victory.

Yeah, they ended up getting like 5 full fresh units to my town square and I had to buy time by breaking the 3 minute countdown with calvary running in and out from both sides while I dealt with the other units and let the rest of my severly battered guys rest. On the plus side I have a 7 exp triari and several 6 exp triari now.

Thanks for taking the time trying to help anyway :).

Well I encountered the but with the season of fleets being off again. It's spring now, and the admiral thinks it's winter. I know I've activated the script each load right at the start, and the season of the fleet differs from the season listed in any family members traits meaning it can't be the script not being activated as otherwise they'd at least be in sync with each other even if out of sync with the actual season. Perhaps it has something to do with retraining and waiting in port?

Is it just one admiral, or are all of your fleets involved? How is the name of your admiral?
