For those of you of a certain age, this classic has just come available on steam for a measly £3.99 (other currencies are available).

Sadly no multiplayer as yet, but it's still as scary and the graphics aren't too bad if you go hardcore and use the correct views for Aliens or Preds.

Playing as a Colonial Marine is still rock solid though (at least for me) and the voice acting is terrible,, but it did come out 10 years ago!

I got the Gold Edition way back when it is still in my top three game's I ever played I still play it the odd time.

I hope the new one gets the feel of it unlike the second one which was pants

Wasn't all that bad imho. The new one looks vicious, hope the marine campaign is longer this time as I never liked the Predator/Alien campaigns

I quite liked AvP2, but then I'm not keen on horror films... bit of a pansy in that respect. :sweatdrop:

In AvP2 the campaigns felt distinct.

The Marine one was terrifying. You had the best firepower in the game, but ammo was limited, and we are pretty damn fragile as a species.

The Predator one was a cakewalk. You were near invincible, has stealth, could regen health and energy easily, and tons of fun weapons. Plus you could take heads. Gotta collect em all!

The Alien felt a lot more visceral and perhaps a bit strategic. You were ridiculously fast, head bites = instakills but that also took aiming and skill. You were also the most fragile of the species though, getting even two marines firing at you at once could spell death.

I enjoyed AvP1 immensely when it was new, the wall-walking aspect was reasonably well done and an original concept that gave the game variety, and also made it damn confusing.

AvP2 was more of the same and looked better.

I deffo buying it if it turns out to be good and recent indications I have seen back that up. I am so playing it in the dark the sound of the motion tracker I can still hear it

AvP was more scary because of the infinitely-spawning Xenomorphs.
AvP2 was more enjoyable because of an actual campaign rather than just locations from the movies.

As for me, I pre-ordered the Hunter Edition of the new AvP for PS3. I plan on scaring the crap out of my roommate with my new facehugger. :curtain:

Ironically being more story-driven actually hurt AvP2, I dunno it kinda lost it's hardcore edge, had it's moments though. I heard the third is going to be more like the first.

I'm gonna have to second Kekvit Irae here; although the second wasn't as atmospheric or scary, the story was much better, and I ended up enjoying it a lot more. In fact, I remember wishing at the time that someone would take the storyline and use it for the story to the AVP movie; and while it's not exactly Oscar-worthy material, it sure beat the hell out of the AVP movies that DID come out.
