272BC - Summer
The Polis-krate of Athena and Sparte openly defy the might of Makedonia.
Areios defeated Pyrrhos, the ever rampaging Molossian; the phil-barbaros that
allowed the plundering of our royal tombs.
The treacherous Epirotes stand upon our doorstep. Areios allies with the
Athenaios- a people and their deluded mental-illness of democracy. Bah!
Madmen, just because they do half a day's work and these fool believes they
have the right to vote and get paid!
But their alliance with the Sparte does not make things go well......
272BC- Autumn
Athenai has been besieged for months, they are unable to harvest their crops.
The citizens dine upon their children as a cheap alternative to turkey.; they slay
their horses and cattle to provide sustenance to their men. Disease and
deprivation stalk them like two giant stalking things. And our men gleefully reap
the harvest from their farms.
Yet, they refuse to capitulate.
As our siege engines were being built, their light cavalry- mounted upon their
wives and slaves instead of horses (they ate them) attempt to harry our
engineers by throwing rocks and torches. Without proper mounts though, they
fall easily to our peltasts.
However, when a Keltoi mercenary called 'Mog' had his head accidentally brutally
dented by a stray rock while bending over for a Makedonian named Bolon, the
soldiers decided that they have had enough of the insolent Athenaios. So I
ordered the attack to begin tomorrow morning.
272BC - Winter
Nikesas Athenai! Today I stand proud on the top of the Akropolis. Half of the
population has been sent off to the various corners of Basileon ton Makedonikon
in search of a better life, Greek slaves have been emancipated, barbaroi slaves
are sold off for a lump sum of good gold talents.
It turns out that Demokratia is not an ideal, but a disease in the mind. May
Asklepios bless and heal them from their plight! Our chirugions and herbalists
have reported that they suffer from an illness called "Sluggishly progressing
schizophrenia"- I have no clue what that is of course. Luckily, a cure has been
found for them. It is said that compulsory serving of asparagus during breakfast
followed by working in the mines until sundown shall temporarily clear their minds
from their illusions of a struggle for truth and justice, formed by their
personalities with a paranoid structure. The implementations on curing these
poor souls shall be my main agenda as I stay for the winter.
-Antigonos, Basileus ton Makedonikon.
