Hi everyone!
Getai is one of my favourite factions, so i was doing some reading on the wab, and i came across a google book.
http://books.google.dk/books?id=5FHuDZYFrbcC&pg=PA35&lpg=PA35&dq=getai+thrace&source=bl&ots=al77OUGHid&sig=pXs3uOilSMowhatieMlyRqKLKO4&hl=da&ei=ArJcS5jVFdad-AbRxpDiDA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CAcQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=&f=false
here, on page 39 it shows a lot of romphaias found in excavations, and only 2 out of 9 are curved. the rest are straight.
I am very sad, cause i liked the look of these badass slashers, but maybe in EB2 the rhomphaioforoi have to have 2 models for their rhopfaias? one straight and one, less common, curved?
on page 38 there are also a lot of cool unusal falcata like swords used in Thrace, including a really cool one, the third one, first row:PP
I hope it is of some help, althouht most possibly the EB historians haver ead that book already.
I just want to point out some details that would add to the historical portray of the Getai.
please include these weapons to EB2:)))
much love and a thousant thanks

The EB team has already made use of these for the Thracian Rhomphaiaphoroi, who carry rhomphaiai, which have long, thin blades that are straight; these weapons are only found in southern Thrace, mostly in the southwest. The Drapanai, or Falxmen, however, are Dacians, and they carry the falx, a weapon which is different from the rhomphaia and does have a curved blade; the falx is clearly related to the rhomphaia, but it is found only in northern Thrace, among the Dacians and Getai. So, no changes necessary to EB!

Besides, that's an Osprey book.

Don't judge the book at all. Critique it :laugh4:

I am not, so I am totally puzzled. It matters not anyways.

Subotan automatically assumed that Osprey = worthless. An attitude I encourage resisting. Judge a book by its content, not its cover or publisher. Of course, the same goes for humans, etc.

I've read only one Osprey book, which I found pretty interesting (Shadows in the Desert by Kaveh Farrokh). Of course such a book won't enable you to get your MA grades, but it provides a good introduction into a topic that is new for you.

Chris Webber's 'The Thracians' Osprey title is definitely one of the best, and is probably the only ancient one to contain actual hard-to-get info on recent, and very interesting finds (like these romphaiai - most have not been fully or widely published yet). It also includes some tantalizing info and images on unpublished finds.

Maybe one of the EB Team members would like to offer some commentary as to the value of Osprey books?

Good books usually. A few though can have erraneous information and as I recall some of the Plates use sources from different finds, eras, locations etc. when illustrating one type of soldier.

Ospreys are good for people who want information of a general subject and have no wish in reading through ancient authors and archeological records.

When did they become deities? You usually seem pretty sharp, why not judge it for yourself?

If you want others' opinion, look here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=125549&highlight=osprey).

What, you didn't hear? We are gods!

No honestly very little EB 'work' derives from Osprey, at least for the Celts anyway :book:. Still, as others have said, they are handy for the big picture of history in most respects.

Ah no, a call for Generalizations! :laugh4: Let the ideas pour! :idea2:

I was considering buying an Osprey book or two, but now that I've heard ingenious commentary by y'all, I might as well give up! :laugh4:
