I don't know what is funnier:

The most-obvious-non-pimp-ever who busted ACORN getting caught by the FBI for trying to wiretap a Senators phone by fraud and deceit:

http://blogs.ajc.com/political-insider-jim-galloway/2010/01/26/acorn-film-maker-arrested-by-fbi-in-wiretap-plot/?cxntfid=blogs_political_insider_jim_galloway

http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/dc/2010/01/fbi-acorn-gotcha-guy-busted-fo.html

Or the typical early reactions from right-wing nutjobs who, without knowing the facts of the case, are already declaring it an Obama hatchet-job in revenge for bringing down ACORN despite the FBI affidavit that clearly shows these guys were up to something illegal, even if it was just a prank (federal property!)

Of course, they all have connections to the Louisiana political elite, and this whole lascivious incident will get really really good, really, really quick. If only Huey were around to witness.

Pretty idiotic. Moreover, this has a fair chance of ending up with a felony conviction for him.

One of the arrested is the son/relative of an attorney general down there or something, right?

And please link to the wackier of the right wing sites, for the general amusement. :2thumbsup:

And indeed; what an incredibly stupid, stupid thing to do.

Lessons learned:

1) a hard-hat and flourescent vest will get you in the front door of a federal building.
2) federal workers notice when you start recording with your cell phone.
3) US Marshals take security seriously.

Poor tradecraft.

Pretty stupid thing to do, hope they like federal PMITA prison. One thing though, I imagine they would have only done this if they knew Sen. Landrieu was up to something, instead of just fishing. Or at least I hope they weren't stupidly just fishing. :fishing:

Poor tradecraft.
I agree. They should be punished for such sloppy work.

Probably emboldened by the ease of tricking ACORN counsellors last year. They didn't realize that they'd simply got lucky that time getting "juicy bits", instead of a run-of-the-mill youTube prank.

:laugh4: Thank you. I'm glad the Russian agrees.

Emboldened to stupidity; a buttonhole camera was a sort of investigative journalism, or could be explained by that.

Trying to wiretap federal property? :dizzy2: And indeed, a quite poor attempt at that. Like if some frat guys decided to go and do it one day.

EDIT: One of those arrested is the son of the Acting Attorney General for the Western District of Louisiana (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100127/ap_on_re_us/us_senator_s_office_arrests).

TPM has a good post (http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/2010/01/what_were_they_thinking.php) about this business, worth reprinting at least in part:

O'Keefe was allegedly using his cell phone to film the attempt to bug Landrieu's office as it happened. And that's not too smart since that amounts to filming your accomplices in the process of committing a felony.

And it goes beyond that. Let's say their 'operation' was a complete success. And let's say they got something really juicy off of Sen. Landrieu's tapped phone line. What exactly were they going to do with it?

The moment you surface either transcripts of the recordings of any calls, you immediately become the target of a federal investigation. And believe me, shield laws -- or shield practices that amount to court deference -- ain't what they used to be. But they were never going to protect you from an investigation into bugging the office of a United States senator. Nor should it.

Now, one might speculate that they were going to use the bug to get leads that they would then report out and surface by other means. But, frankly, to put it mildly that does not sound like the James O'Keefe MO. And filming the bugging as it happened definitely suggests they didn't plan on keeping the thing a secret.

So again, what were they thinking?

No websites in particular, I meant the comments at the bottom of the articles I posted. They immediately accused the FBI of being Obama's henchmen, as if every agent in the entire agency changes poltitcal affiliation each time the pres changes

Ok, so now the defense is saying it wasn't wiretapping, it was an undercover job to show that the Senators office did not care about constituents calls

Meanwhile the right is bashing the left for calling it wiretapping, even though that is what the FBI originally approached it as.

Meanwhile, the left is using this as a way to somehow discredit the Acorn bust, as if privacy laws change or unchange what actually transpired in the Acorn ofice

Meanwhile, the right is saying that Acorn was attempting to form a child prostitution ring, which really dumbs down the entire Acorn bust because they weren't trying, they were basically advising, which is a huge ******* difference,

Meanwhile, the left is attempting to suggest that Mr. Brietbart funded this endeavor, and Mr. Brietbart is like WTF THESE ARE GOOD KIDS

Meanwhile the right is not withdrawing support for legislation to honor the man behind the Acorn bust because his current actions do not negate the results of his previous actions.

I LOVE THIS SCANDAL

I watched Breitbart on some MSNBC show yesterday or the day before. Basically, he and the host just yelled at each other. :clown:

And that's why I don't watch cable news. Ever.

Wow, it was like a talking points of both sides match. It was like two little kids arguing over who got mommy the best present.
