You'd use Hex Workshop (http://www.hexworkshop.com/) or a Hex editor. I've opened it up, and it has a list of factions, including all the "extra" factions, but those are just references to other files, like "names" and such. I haven't found a need to edit it yet though, cause all the images and text are found outside the .exe, though if I could find the color codes, or the unit and building functions, tha'd be amazing. Good luck.

You may also want to find a crack to that, for which you can use a site like http://www.astalavista.com. Since what you're probably downloading is a 30 day trial.

I think the key to the colors is in each faction.. I saw 11 free factions in there.. Looks like the campmap\startpos early high late era files can be manipulated for example.
SetActivefaction FN_FREE_01 or something like that. Ill tinker with it sometime to see what i get. Trial and error. Also the names file would have to be manipulated I dint see anything about colors altho they mispelled color to colour on the executable.

I dont think they mispelt it, I think they just spelt it the non-american way.
