I have been looking into adding religious units and buildings for the Pagan Faction,
I have already worked out the fix for bad images when playing Pagan Factions, see the "Rebel Dawn CTD thread" http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/Forum5/HTML/000784.html
but i am not happy using the current set of religious buidlings for the Pagan Factions,
Here are my ideas,
the first is a stone circle,
(the original Phase one of StoneHenge,)

This would function like a church and allow Bards (same function as Priests)
the second is the Unique building,
the Standing Stones,

This would function like a catherdral and allow construction of Druids, same function as Cardinals/Orthodox Bishops
I will simply shrink these images for the review panel and coloured folder,
and fade them slightly for the info_pics,
now i just need to come up with the image set for the units!
(sample images for me to start from, anyone?? - i should be able to create fairly easily, i just need an image to start from...)
enabling the buildings and units should not be too much of a problem,
at this stage this is all only an idea...

If you create a set of pagan buildings to avoid the problems you raised I'll add them to my pagan and rebel dawn mods next release.
They may even enable the Golden Horde as a playable faction.
Please note though that any changes to the crusader docs will result in the game becoming unplayable online.
So it would have to be a image only replacement.

I followed your instructions for the pagan buildings after testing your CTD error out here. I was not able to duplicate it. I copied the folders you suggested and the game did indeed change some of to the imagery for the pagan factions. I didnt get a single pic not found error either so it looks like your fix works for my errors too.
I will pack up the files into a zip file and make them available. If anybody has any nice pagan bif files they think would be more suitable email me then and i'll take a look and add them if they are suitable.
The pack wont be part of Rebel Dawn or Pagan Dawn so it should be good for anybody else wishing to use pagan factions too. It may also mean the Golden Horde is playable because they did produce the error you got mate.
BTW are you using modified crusader files ?

currently i am not using modified crusader files,
the church and cathedral will not be available in game unless i edit the crusader files.
Currently i only plan to make the "church" (stonecircle) and "cathedral" (standing stones),
along with the bard and druid units,
simply because the Pagan factions are missing religious units, and i think they are needed.
I can, if i have enough images, also make portraits for these units.
I'll have a think and a look at making other buildings, but it's not terribly high on my priorities

Actually theres a celtic Barrow im going to look for on the net. It was a religious building apparently. Now I have the ability to import the bif files (thanks mate) I can take a look for some photos of those locations.
I was also thinking that some viking buildings might be usable too.
Need to build up a collection first and root through them. Stone circle is a good idea though, it just predates mtw by couple of millenia http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
Still Iron age buildings may work out great for pagans... will check into that too.
Oh yes before I go, The celts did at one point control most of Europe. They where nomadic for the most part but those that did settle down built settlements inside enclosures that looked a little like your pic above. Only with a wooden fense around it and dirt ditches. They got so strong they threatened Roman at one point. Though they where not exactly organised into a faction as we know them in MTW. More rebel than faction.

true but druids still existed around the dawn of the game era...
and these are pagans we are talking about,
and there are not just a few, but Hundreds of versions of Stonehenge scattered around the UK...

i'm currently playing the danes, and severly missing emissaries and churches - i'm being attacked almost every turn,
have not lost a province yet, but i'm spending so much on army that i am going to drop behind tech wise very soon,
also sorely missing hobilars...

Emissaries crash the game if given the pagans i noticed.
Pagans introduce some limitations that I am still trying to get my head around.

actually i have not built an emissary yet,
will try that test tomorrow as well,
Golden Horde is using emisaries NP,
will see what happens...
I dont think building them crashes the game. Given them to a pagan faction at the start of the game in the campaign script does though. I would guess as a pagan nation your simply not allowed to build them but that is only a guess.

unless they are enabled in the unit prod file you'll be seeing an error message along the lines of "tried to place a unit that cannot be built" or "that does not match culture"

So what can the pagans build and not build? They can't build emissaries, spies, assassins, princesses, inquisitors, etc? Please advice its VERY important.

as pagan they can't build religious units of any sort,
not emissaries, spies assassins or any cav other than royal knights,
am working out the bugs in my files, am adding units, and will upload the prod files when i am sure everything works as it should
(in finding the bugs in MY work)
I started with a fresh set of prod files,
so far have reinstated emissaries, priest and cardinals, church and cathedral
- going with a diff set to cath and ortho'
for now,
until we decide on the pagan religious units,
and do the art work for them.
next fix the swiss pike bug, (mod)
maybe add the FootKnights, (mod)
and then perhaps add a light cav for Danes?
what do you think about simple horsearchers?

did you get the SodBuildings zip file from the beta file section?
it is photo's of the restored Viking Outpost (NewFoundland?)
Im running more or less on a default installation except for the odd custom campaign.
I am very interested in making sure my work works well with other mods though, especially if the mods improve the game play.
Drop in mods that effect all campaigns are my favourite type of mod.
I have not looked at that file yet though, been busy tracking down where 5gig of my sites bandwidth suddenly vanished too:/
I intend to start looking closer at the pagan buildings very soon though. I would be more than happy to work on it with you if you like with the intension of using the pack as a drop in expansion to be used with any pagan faction in any mod by any user.
Lets face it, they dont have to script for it to work, so it would be a nice little improvement for most players.
BTW i made my own pagen badge, a very cool one at that. Saved it in adopes own file format so i can edit it later. Will look into use that for some pagan banners sometime.
Question:where is the beta file section, i had a look but dont see it, do you have a direct link handy ?

This is where i need some advice and guidance,
these are short term tests only,
Currently no cav for Danish Pagans other than Royal's, thus we either need to enable another heavy cav for Dane Pagns,
or remove Royal Court and above from Pagan builds.
(prefer no heavy cav - remove court and above from Pagan builds)
Danes also have No light cav whatsoever,
suggest make available either
steppe cav - (not my preferrd choice) OR
Horse Archers - (preferred)
or remove entire horse farer tree from Pagan Builds.
combining both these would force the Pagan Danes to remain with ONLY royal cav available!

Wait, wait, but if you make them buildable in the crusader unit file then they CAN be built right? Or will they crash the game?

(already playtesting modded prod files described above - i still have to decide on a light cav, and change the build options to "drop" useless buildings)
Give the Pagan Danes Hobilars. Seems an obvious choice for them., And I belive the danes should be able to build longbowmen if they get the right territories.
Love it so far. The other guys need beefing up. AI very susceptable to the "Tank Rush" of all viking armies.
Becuase most of what your going to build is vikings anyway, I have the autobuild set to on. Real time saver if all I'm gonna build is Vikings..
So far I find Rebel Dawn/Pagan Dawn to easy to win as the Danes
