How great was Marius, or was his reforms part of the cause of the downfall of the Republic.
Marius was elected for consulship 7 times, which was entirely unprecedented, but was he just in the right place at the right time to take advantage of the situation in Rome? (War in Numidia was going bad and then the threat of invasion by two huge germanic tribes wandering around Gaul)
