I like this news:

Dear All,

Today we’re announcing that a new update for Empire will shortly be entering be entering it's beta group phase.

We’ve spent the last few months listening to and acting on fan feedback on the battle AI in Empire: Total War, and this update has been designed to improve your experience.

This update seeks to reduce the occurrence of aggressive melee behaviour in the AI armies, milling or ‘blobbing’ behaviour during formation and the leapfrogging of units sometimes experienced.

It’s important to set expectations realistically with this update, where these issues occur they will be significantly reduced but not altogether eliminated.
The Battle AI will be a significant improvement over Empire 1.5, and is based on Empire. It will not exhibit the progression seen in Napoleons more advanced Battle AI system.

The beta group phase is for an indeterminate length of time so the public release date of this update isn’t scheduled yet.
If you’d like to take part in the beta and test the update for compatibility and stability please contact Sensei and sign up for the beta group.

Please note we’re not looking for feedback on the BAI’s performance in general, we’re looking to test stability and performance at this stage.

Thanks,

Mark O'Connell

Well, what do you know!

It looks like there is still some support there for ETW!

Wow!

Quite a surprise.

I'm honestly thinking someone at CA are using both halves of their brain and realizes that maybe they should try to appease the TW fans. From what I've seen it seems every fan forum, except the official ones are mostly hostile.

There might be a little more support than we think. It might just be me but since downloading my EUE unit pack my technology menus are back in order and the A.I. is now more readily accepting reasonable tech trades.

Well, that's cool. Just because Fisherking's excitement makes me smile, and because a Vancouverite posted in this thread, I think I will start a new campaign.

This town is getting ready to explode Megas it's quite something. I sorta wish I didn't have to work everyday for the next 3 weeks so I could actually enjoy the games.

The cynical part of me says that if you set the bar low enough then the minimum amount of effort looks really good. The starved and beaten optimistic part of me is sort of tempted to get ETW for $13.

Thx, long time coming. I wish sieges were fixed though.

FFS

I just downloaded and was totally enjoying DarthMod - so my game has now been downgraded IMO

The worst thing about this game is the company that made it

so does this mean I have to re-install Darth Mod

For those one or two people that havent tried it - there is no comparison between DMUC and vanilla total war - darthmod is an enjoyable game - the other is frustrating bug ridden

OMG I reinstalled Darthmod and ETW has stopped working - great

is there something I need to do like clear the register or something ??

time to go back to play something else - I got about 2 months play out of this game - more than some I hear - spose I should be grateful

Im over it

So yesterday when I fired up XCOM Terror from the deep, I noticed ETW updating. Did that have anything to do with this or was that something else?

That was the Elite units of the East DLC that was added to everyones game but can only be used once you have paid for it. Is has also fixed the tech tabs. Technology and philosophy are no longer reversed.

There must have been other fixes in it to be as big as it was. I can't imagine a few units and fixing the tabs to have taken up so much.

It took at least five minutes for it to load and that was near 500 kbs.

I thought the improvements in NTW were supposed to transfer over. :stare:

Not any longer.

That is what the whole thing in the blog, about the code moving on was about...

Nothing NTW dose changes anything in ETW.

Yes (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=330211):

Empire Total War has been updated on Monday 8th, because Creative Assembly had released the Elite Units of the East. So if your games crashes on startup, you need to download the fix for the newest ETW update.

Solution: Download this file (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=73835&stc=1&d=1265733542) and copy it to:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\empire total war\data

Now you have to add it to your campaign script.
Go into your script folder:

Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\The Creative Assembly\Empire\scripts\DMUC

Windows Vista/7:
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Empire\scripts\DMUC

[If you don't see this folder, it's still hidden. Follow this tutorial (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial130.html) (Thx to Jihada) to show hidden folders.]

and open the script you want to play with. If you e.g. want to play the Grand Campaign, you have to go into the subfolder GC and open the file user.empire_script.txt.
Now just add this line:
mod EUE_DM_Hotfix.pack;
at the bottom of the script, save it and you should be fine.

I haven't been keeping up with ETW news in quite a while partially because I've uninstalled it.

Did wonder if one of you guys could tell me though if the blurry text has been fixed at all? That's the thing that really put me off ETW (in addition to the massive amounts of bugs and general lack of support from CA).

Monsieur Alphonse

The blurry text is still there.

Thanks Alphonse, guess that means ETW is permanently shelved.

Alrighty, can somebody please clarify this for me:

Which of these updates/DLC is the one that Steam has been downloading for the past hour or so (its only reached 7% at approx. 150kb/s!)? And exactly how big is it? I only ask as I've been having problems with my download cap of late and need to know whether to put off the download until later-it seems to be rather large, and I don't want to continue updating until I'm sure.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, i realise I must have reinstalled Empire at some point, and its now downloading every update and patch since it first came out or something. In other words, never mind.

Nice to know Maratha gets some extra powerful units through East DLC. They really needed some, they're so weak, they are really unable to conquer everything before 1750.

The new pack is really good for the Ottoman Empire rather than Maratha.

And I'm satisfied we have a Wallachian unit now...

Maybe they'd be so kind to add researches completed to the list of unit abilities in the Campaign mode eh? Perhaps even give conscripts rank-fire (as they are step up from Militia - suposedly)

I still can't use the technology trade panel because it's bugged. Hope they fix that finally... :(

I'm not sure what's going on here either, as mine seems to be doing the same thing. I definitely didn't uninstall the game files (it even says it's currently using 15091MB of hard disk space) and yet it seems to have downloaded over 1.5GB so far and is only at about 13%! As I currently get my internet through a mobile dongle with a 5GB a month usage limit, of which only 1GB is now left for the rest of the month as I didn't realise it was using so much, this poses a rather serious problem as I can't redownload it anytime soon. Something dodgy has clearly happened somewhere along the line with Steam or the game and because of that I can't play it now. Not happy! :wall:
