View Full Version : Will the Punic Wars be Crusades?

I just casually tend to mess around with the Total War Games, mainly since I am big on history, but will the Punic Wars be Crusades? The Third Punic War for example in 146 featuring Cato giving you a Crusade to take Carthage, the Second Punic War being Carthage getting a Crusade to take Rome?

What if me and Carthage become buddies and paint the map Red, White... and more Red?

Good question. But realy the best answer ever:D
Edit: If not, what will "the crusades" be used for?

I doubt that there will be "crusades" with predetermined dates. The EB team has always said that though they try to accurately recreate the ancient world and present an accurate geopolitical situation at game start, once the game starts, it is about creating your own alternate history. You can obviously follow historical expansion patterns, but I don't think the EB team likes implementing measures that force you to. Well, force isn't the right word, I guess it's more like nudge, but even so, the point still stands I believe.
That said, crusades/jihads may still be incorporated (perhaps to represent nomadic migrations? I may be misremembering that though). It does say in the FAQ (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?102768-Europa-Barbarorum-II-FAQ) that multiple concepts have been discussed on the use of crusades/jihads, but a decision may not have been reached on the matter as of yet.
... will the Punic Wars be Crusades? No.

I guess Cato doesn't have what it takes to be Pope

I'm going to guess their will be some use of the crusade function, but will it only be for one or two factions, a sort of call to arms of a people (I'm thinking the Germanic or Gaulish tribes), perhaps some kind of decree from the senate, or is it soft coded and can be used for something different than to give the player a better ability to capture a given settlement?
I can't see any situation where more than one faction would repsond in any historical manner, unless the KH was divided into Rhodes, Athens and Sparta and this is how they would wage war as a unified force.
They are much more likely to use the Jihad function rather than the crusade function. They are slightly different game mechanics. Crusades need a pope faction (seperate, unplayable faction) while jihads just need an agent. Although it might even be moddable to move that button somewhere else. Who knows what can and can't be done?
So you guys might be right about the use...or not. But it won't be done with crusades.

Maybe it could simply be used for calling your Allies to war. In Vanilla Rome or EB I you can ask a faction to attack another one, but at least in my games it does not work

I'm going to guess their will be some use of the crusade function,...No.
My semi-educated guess would be that in order to have the ability to launch crusades, one would require their to be a "Papal Faction" present, which would of course take up one of the slots that could otherwise be used to include one of the other factions that will be present. The problems with having a "Papal faction" would be a huge headache, especially seeing as it would mean only one faction would really be able to call a crusade, as otherwise it would be really odd for several factions with very little or nothing in common culturally were vying for approval from a faction with whom they also share little in common with culturally. I'm not even going to get into how much of a migraine it would be to make the "Papal faction" playable.
So in conclusion, I can't see how they could possibly make it possible to allow crusades while remaining in the spirit of historical accuracy as of this point in time.
Jihads on the other hand I'm not so sure about.

Why not, is it forbidden to ask? There are 100 Threads "How old are you" "Where are you from", why not "Are you a girl"? Why should a girl not be allowed to say "Yes, I am a girl and play EB". Would you guys discriminate her? Remember, I know now where you live ;-)
Perhaps, but personal questions are best left to the profile pages or PM.

No. What I meant is that there are other women on the EB fora too who joined these fora before Terentia did.
There's no need to get all excited about it.

But to 13 year old, a girl on the internet on a gaming forum is like a seeing bigfoot... with boobs and therefore important.
