I know this is a serious matter, but some bits were just so bad it was funny.
"In another scenario, about 80% of the children said a man had cause to slap his partner because she did not have the dinner ready on time."
:laugh4:
Seriously though, these results are pretty shocking. Is it maybe because children often get punished by being hit, that they tend to presume this is normal amongst adults as well?

"They are still told they can't play football because they are a girl."
That was what I found most problematic... We'll never get decent womens football unless that attitude is removed.

It's a good thing we here in America are so progressive (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lingerie_Football_League).
Seriously, this is very disturbing. What are these parents teaching their kids, how are they being raised to come up with these opinions?

"When I grow up I'm going to have two babies and work part-time in the shop down the road."
I kind of want to marry this one. British women know what I want to hear! lol

either you mean we are an addictive drug which people often get hooked on, like ambien, or we are a bore.
im going to assume the second option...... and ignore it because ive learned better than to bother arguing with europeans about the merits of football.

Football is a game of technique, finesse and intelligence that takes nothing to organize and which everyone can play.
The American version is about who has the biggest bully.

Indeed. The American version is about the biggest wussy. Wearing body armour and running away like a little-girl to a touch-line.

Why did I just spend an hour of my life looking at pics from the LFL?
The kids polled for the study were from Glasgow. I'm surprised the researcher didn't get glassed.

I think children simply confuse ´reason´, or ´rationale´, with ´justification´.
If there is a reason for something, it will get blurred with something being justified.
Even many adults make the mistake. Either unknowingly, or more actively, semisubconciously to rationalise something bad they´ve done.

Glasgow, less surprising than you might think.

I wonder what the phrasing of the questions was. If a question is a leading question, even in the slightest of ways, I'd be inclined to think that a child would follow the lead as kids do tend to respect the opinions of adults as "always right".
For example I reckon many kids would answer yes to both these questions:
Is it OK for daddy to slap mummy when she refuses to cook dinner?
Is it bad for daddy to hurt mummy if she doesn't want to cook dinner?
Edit:
Incidentally, this reminds me of an episode my brother told me from his childhood:
He asked our dad if he knew everything, to which our dad replied "No, your mother knows everything".
So he asked our mum if she knew everything, to which she replied "No, but your father knows everything".
And so he concluded that neither our dad our our mum knew anything.
The sample size seems to be pretty small. Just 89 students. From how many total in Glasgow/Scotland?
Hmm, Google tells me around 400,000 (primary students) in Scotland. That's hardly big enough to establish any sort of statistical analysis what so ever.

Enough of the Glasgow-bashing, since these stereotypes are usually applied to all us west coast central belt folks. :whip:

I think the study appears to have multiple flaws, including sample size and the possible phrasing of the questions as others have mentioned.

That's stupid (if I were depressed, I would have said worrying). I can't remember I've ever put women in the kitchen, even in my fantasies. Small boys should dream to marry a princess, not to lock a woman in a kitchen... The world is on a bad way...
Btw, I still hope the woman of my dreams will be absolutely incompetent in cooking (because it seems men put weight when their women cook)... Think of that! ~:)
P.S. Women that are interested in me may call the prince of their dreams on this telephone [data lost]...
