CRASH taking greek city Sardo

Hi im playing rome total war 1.0 version and in the imperial campaign with the blue familiy( Escipiones in spanish) while i try to take the greek city called Sardo, north of Rodas, and succeed, the game crashes, shows the unexpected error window and sends me back to the desktop.

can anyone tell me how to fix this? i didnt installed any patches for fear of saved games from 1.0 ver not working.

Yes, saved games from 1.0 don't work with patches.
Though, you should patch up your game because you will loose some annoying bugs this way and have a better game experience.
