View Full Version : Question of Graphics, Wellington?
I have had an idea for creating more realistic lbm and bif files. And I need to know if it's possible and easy anough for a novice to do.
If we create a unit, then use the unit in say the custom battle. Then take a screen shot of the unit, can the unit be adapted to by cutting and pasting, and re-sizing, to fit for a lbm and bif file?
And how the heck do you create a bif file?
thanks

1. Create standard RGB picture in Photoshop
2. After you finished convert color table to Indexed (256 col)
3. Save as Compressed (RLE) 8-bit *.BMP
4. Open BIF Reader choose New (enter the Height and Widht values)
5. And final import *.BMP file
If your lucky enogh it should work, at least it worked for me, but only for the first time http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
hmmmm you wjere lucky, I created a picture in MS paint, and I can't get it to work as a bif.
If anyone would like to take my pic and convert it to a bif I would be most greatful
I have copied it to bmp and lbm formats.
But I need a review_panel bif of it, and a Info_pic bif in the greenish colour thingie.
like I said, any and all help welcome.

PS: leave message and email here I will email the file. lbm/bmp.

extract bmp from bif
edit the bmp
import into the original bif you
exported from and save with another name
and you have a bif.
It works every time for us http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I'm not too sure what your drift is here Fenir.
Taking screenshots and images from units in a tactical battle only provides images that the MTW engine has already created/resized/reoriented/repositions from the images provided in the generic-unit BIF's. We cannot, at present, create new BIF's (unless we wish to take on the mantle of a completely new mod - redrawing all BIFs for our new mod to represent completely new images).
Screenshots of existing units only gives us amended views (amended by virtue of the MTW engine) of the images that are already defined.
Re BIFs - LK is the guy to ask - he and The Lords have done most work in this area.
As for LBM's, such files have no consideration for unit modding.
