EB Wiki Project

"The Europa Barbarorum Wiki is a collaborative effort to create a knowledge base for all things regarding the Europa Barbarorum modification for Rome: Total War" (EB Wiki).

The EB Wiki is precisely that: more of a knowledge base than a 'documentation'. It would be (one of the places) a player could go to for more information on a certain aspect of the game he or she is interested in. What exactly are these aspects that the wiki aims to explain?

History and Release of EB
Features
-- Factions
-- Units
-- Government System
-- Trait System
-- Buildings
-- others (e.g. music, submods, graphics, etc.)
Multiplayer

A page on After Action Reports (AARs) is not currently part of the EB Wiki but it will eventually be implemented. Please bear with us.

The most current version of the EB Wiki Workflow (29 April 2010) can be downloaded here (http://europabarbarorum.wikia.com/wiki/File:EB_Wiki_Workflow.pdf). It provides a direction plan for the wiki along with general guidelines that aim to keep pages structurally similar.

You can access the wiki at the following address: http://europabarbarorum.wikia.com (http://europabarbarorum.wikia.com)

I don't really know what I'm doing, so it might turn out badly, but I'll try and help. People can correct anything I do wrong.

Alright, I added all of the units to the Aedui page, except for the pictures, I'll work on that now. This is a good idea. Good work.

Thanks for the instructions. I think I'll just add more faction pages and units right now. I'm not gonna mess with unit pages at the moment.

Well, people have already started working on this one, so who knows, maybe it won't be given up?

Interesting, I think the goals of the two are a little different though. This first one seems to be more of an attempt to provide a basic manual, whereas I think with the new one it's more of an attempt to create a combination unit stat database, tactic/strategy guides for each faction, and act as a replay repository (which is of course what it started as). So I think they provide somewhat different information.

Looks like the main things needed are campaign and battle guides. History and Untis seem to have been covered.

Will try get the Makedonian Starting guide up and running.

If anybody finds time, please edit out the emoticons Cute Wolf has so eagerly shared with us, such as the infamous :p

And remove the journalism and make it more straight-to-the-facts :laugh4:

They are cheap, numerous, and their stats are actually a good one, even without javelins. Use them to hold the center of your early and mid game battle line (but don't forget to have some family members watching them closely :p so they won't rout soo fast). Giving enough time, as well as guard mode, they are quite useful to keep those pesky pedites extraordinarii pinned and useless (due to their 1 armour means that they don't get punished at all by ap weapons). Beware against javelins and arrows though, you'll often found that some Leuce Epos are nice to have arround and kill those missile skirmishers before they start to deplete your poor lugoae.

Never use them to guard the border with lusotann anyway... their gaesamica and insane javelin throwing milites will easily decimate them in no time, use them to guard the border with their numbers against Romaioi and Sweboz, giving proper support with cavalry and slingers, they could keep a good performance each time they fought a battle. With a chevron or two, they can actually hold the line as true line infantry anyway, but don't forget to switch to Gaelaiche when the latter are available, unless you have a playstyle that emphasizes manpower rather than quality (and their difference in quality is rather acceptable).

Uh... sorry..... :sweatdrop:
I was soo drama-minded....:drama3:

Well, being an old-timer too (sort of) I still have to say that I have already added this EB-wiky to my bookmarks and I will try co update some content into it. Great idea, Vartan!

And Meth, there is so much wisdom you could share...

EDIT: For instance I think it would be nice to have an article or series of articles dealing with the history of EB-forum community. There is lot of in-house expressions and references not immediately understandable to newcomers (for example the famous Bartix stuff, and many others) - these things might also be included into the wiki. Also some of the famous AARs might be discussed and linked to there... :2cents:

Oh...those are Makedonia pics? From looking at the list I thought they were AS pics. Alright then. I have to get to work on renaming all the files cause the image names that are used on the EB site are sometimes off. Thanks Unintended BM.

All of the names are the same as the ones on the EB site, but yeah, some could be wrong. I should've probably put 'mak' or something in front of the names to distuingish them. Sorry about that. I'll probably upload more later, so feel free to contact me and tell me your style of naming them so I can do it right next time.

Also, nice job following through with finishing up the Aedui units.

are the AoR maps the right ones for v1.2?

Consider this, all the AORs I've uploaded so far come from the Heimstatt cards. Those are from v1.2 as far as I know. I hope that's good enough. Feel free to jump on board and help us finish this mess we started.

the heimstatt ones? ok, i tink these ones are wuite actual. but anyway, is there a way to check them WITHOUT starting a campaign and checking units' AoR ingame?

It's called the Recruitment Viewer. So far, if the Heimstatt hasn't had the AOR, we have intentionally left them out. We do this because nobody on this thread has confirmed whether the recruitment viewer complies with v1.2. And I see you're the person that wrote the Usage recently for one of the units, a Gallic swordsmen unit, as you use "wuite" instead of "quite". Please get an account, it's free. Log in before you edit, it's appreciated.

Hi there im new to the .org but a long time fan and player of EB, i currently have a lot of time on my hands and am willing to help out where necessary with the Wiki. So if someone would like to point me in the right direction i would like to use my free time to help get this finished.

There's an error in the description of the Carnute Cingetos - their HP are shown as 2, whereas they actually have only one HP. I'm trying to edit that.

Will create an account eventually, however I'm not such a fan of leaving my mail address everywhere.

vartan
07-02-2010, 17:02
If anybody isn't a fan of leaving their mail address, feel free not to sign up. We had another Good Samaritan incident yesterday and that's cool, but can't have that repeated so frequently. User accounts help keep track of things, both the good and the bad. IP addresses are too anon for such a collaborative project as a wiki. I'll look into the Carnute Cingetos, thanks athanaric. Even pointing out little things like that helps. Thanks guys.

I'm working on getting an appropriate mail address with which to sign up on boards like this, so to speak. Meanwhile, I've tried to add some useful content, but that didn't appear to have been successful.

Probably because you didn't use the wiki software correctly. Your first experience editing on MediaWiki engine?

WORKFLOW link ain't working properly. Don't mind that. I've started the Manual of Style.

Also, we had an attack yesterday by an anonymous...what do you call it, idiot? All terms relating to Rome, Roma, Romans, etc. were changed to Barbaros, Barbaropolis and so on.

Well if you know who these people are, perhaps you can exert some positive influence over Roman-hater groups to prevent stuff like this...

Back to topic, how come the non-Celtic units don't show up in the "Units" department?

Not all pages have been categorized. Don't worry about that right now because I work on the framework and categorization myself. My main concern right now with editors is the bulk of the knowledgebase, the articles and pages themselves. And you're right about CuteWolf. If he or anyone knows about these rude people (they know who they are), then give them a word or two about this issue...

I would like to take this moment to give thanks to both Xoguboz (athanaric) as well as my best friend Heros (Հերոս) who has been instrumental in the development of the gameplay section of the Hayasdan article on the wiki. Thank you so much guys, your work is appreciated greatly and will be appreciate more as the wiki becomes mainstream.

I don't really get it why this wiki is being made. Most of the information is already present at the europa barbarorum site. The only thing I can think of which will really help people is explaining how to install a certain mod or note common bugs/glitches and how you may fix them (which also can be done on the fora). As every campaign is different for each individual you don't have (need) to elaborate that.

And as I hope that EBII will be released at about mid 2011 this site won't be relevant anymore.
